Garden Passages

I never went into the showroom. I wanted something simple and lower budget, but I wanted a lock. They made the process super easy, worked off of pictures and did an amazing job matching my front door. I have recommended them to several neighbors because of the quality of the workmanship and the professionalism and customer focus of all involved. Super polite and respectful at my house and on the phone. Sean the installer was also great!

So, I’ll break this review down 3 ways: Process, Installation and Product.
*First, Process: They were ready for me when I arrived. Dave Sr. took me for a tour: Lots of finished product to use as inspiration. It seems everyone that works there is family or nearly so. We sat down and talked about my application. Dave guided the conversation but did not push it. Great sales process. After 15 – 20 minutes, I had a drawing, he had a check. Exactly what I want: Quick and professional. A+.
*Next: Installation: Their 3^rd party guy has been doing Garden Passages installations for years. Showed up on time, nice guy, worked a LONG TIME to overcome challenges to get it right. He installed a door stop to prevent it from hitting an adjacent wall (installed at no extra cost). The guy left me his card saying call me if… The guy was a pro and aimed to please. A+
*Finally, finished product: Build and finish quality is excellent. I literally can find no faults! Top of gate is covered with copper: Looks amazing and is already starting to patina. Gate closes solidly, like a car door. Everyone who passes, comments on the gate.
This gate was not cheap, but leaves a lasting first impression, makes an excellent design statement and improves the curb appeal. Custom work, quality product, professional process, fairly priced. I’m a raving fan of Garden Passages and am actively looking for friends and family to refer to them.

To say I am thrilled with my gates is an understatement. Dave Sr. was amazing. I showed him exactly what I wanted and he produced two beautiful gates with keyless entry that have made my neighbors all jealous and me extremely happy and safe. They are great quality, the hardware is amazing, and way better than I could have expected. The installer was so nice, even though he had come down with something health wise. The Mom in me kept trying to get him to drink Gatorade. Now if only I could get them to make me some other things.

I love my new gates. They are solid and beautifully installed. Sean Bradley the installer was very pleasant and Dave Senior was very easy to work with. I especially like the pineapple detail.

Overall, the quality and look of the gate is excellent.
The 2 stars has to do with the disconnect between staff. What I was told at the time of the on site quote by Dave Sr. turned out to be not true according to Dave Jr. So after a few calls to try to clear things up, I scrambled to rent a concrete saw ($ 105 at Home Depot) and cut the wall that night. This unnecessary expense could have been avoided if I was given advanced warning so I could borrow my friends. But to avoid delays, I did it. Then, Friday came and went, no final measurement. Then the holiday weekend came, more delays. Then emails, no answer. Finally 7 days later I get a call. There was an apology, which was appreciated. There was a promise of an «upgrade in the wood thickness,» which was appreciated. There was a promise to not delay the original installation date, which was appreciated. The installer came when I was at work and very nicely installed the «NON-​upgraded» gate.
Since then, the gate has worked well and looks good.
And… I’ve never heard from them again. I guess it might be awkward if I run into my neighbor after all of this…

If you need a custom door or gate, don’t bother looking anywhere else. We had a custom sized door built to fit an archway that is the entrance to an open air courtyard in front of our house. The picture says it all. Couldn’t be happier. Total cost, including installation and travel from Orange County all the way up to Westlake Village (at least 2hrs each way), was about $ 2500. I would have happily paid more given the quality that we got.

We were really nervous purchasing nearly $ 4000 in custom wood gates, but the process couldn’t have been smoother from start (the initial measure and design choices) to finish (delivery and installation). The gates are absolutely gorgeous, and the quality seems to be fantastic. We’ve seldom been so pleased with a big purchase.
The service was first-​rate, and I never once felt rushed or pushed into making a decision. The gentleman who did our initial measure and consultation actually hung out with me for a while, giving some fix-​up tips for the house and yard. He left an excellent impression. And the gent who did the final install was a Star Trek fan — never a bad thing!
We’re also shocked by their excellent customer service at their office. Several months after installing the gates, a trash can fell over and put a gash in one of them. The gates were in perfect condition otherwise, so the gash really stood out.
On a whim, I called Garden Passages to see if they had any recommendations on how I could fill and repair the gash (I didn’t want to use common wood putty-​and-​stain type solutions, since these are outdoor gates and are more subject to weather abuse). Not only was the sales staff helpful, but they even had one of the wood crafters call me back with specific recommendations. Afterwards, they called again to say they could run to their supplier and pick up some color-​matched epoxy wood putty, which they offered to us for free.
Rarely have I been so pleased with a company’s customer service. I’m finding it difficult to restrain myself from purchasing a new front door from them as well!

Garden Passages has surpassed all our expectations! Quality, beauty and installation is top notch! Our Gates are beautiful! Truly a pleasure from start to finish!

We just had our gate installed yesterday. It is beautiful and exactly what David said it would be. The install from Sean was wonderful as well. On time, on budget and wonderful craftsmanship. This was a quick build/​install request and David made sure it was expedited to meet our timing.
I highly recommend this company for your gate needs.

OMG! We have the most beautiful gate. I wish I would have done this years ago. Dave and staff did a terrific job on the gate. He had photos and spent a lot of time listening to make sure he knew exactly what we wanted. He even came back to follow up on the stain. From start to finish it was a wonderful experience. The installer took his time and did a fabulous job as well. Would recommend Graden Passage again and again their work speaks for itself. This Beautiful gate has added $$$$ to our home value.

Love our gate! Excellent craftsmanship and quality. Installed with the greatest care. Dave and his company came highly recommended by neighbors.
Dave was on time for our first consultation and showed me his portfolio (images of gates, samples, etc). I selected a few wooden gates with grills and claves to show my husband and family. We told him we’d like to order through them and on our 2^nd consultation, Dave finalized the details and sketched our gate for us. We were all excited as the gates in our neighborhood look fantastic, so we were confident they would deliver.
And they definitely delivered! I wasn’t here for the installation, but my husband raved about the gate and said it looked awesome. He also commented that Sean, the installer, did an excellent job. They also installed some small touches that set them apart (e.g., door stoppers, protective studs).
When I got home, the gate was more beautiful than I imagined. Perfectly crafted and stained. Worth the price! The gates seem to run about $ 900-​$ 1500, approximately, depending on the thickness, grills, handles, etc. Installation was a separate charge of $ 185.
Dave said it would take about 5 weeks but he was able to move up production and we received the gate in about 2 weeks. The gates on their websites do not do them justice (hope they update their site with additional photos!). Highly recommend Garden Passages, and could not be happier with the final product and service!
