Enjoy fresh seafood, tender steaks, Kobe burgers, huge salads and over a dozen Pupu’s (appetizers) with an Island Inspired Flare and an eye toward value without sacrificing quality. Quite simply put, the food is great. Don the Beachcomber will take you back to Polynesia in a heavy Tiki themed dining room and banquet rooms complete with waterfalls reminiscent of vintage Hawaii. The bartenders at The Tiki bar will craft some of the most delicious and creative tropical cocktails and martinis complete with the little umbrella. A wine list with at least 20 wines by the glass invites exploration. Banquet facilities and for 20 to over 200 in a fun and unique tropical setting with plenty of free parking. While the average cost of our steak and seafood offerings with a drink and tip range from $ 31 to $ 50 we also offer a selection of entrée sized salads, and three burgers featuring Kobe beef, broiled chicken, or grilled giant Portobello mushroom for $ 8 to $ 14 per item.
History
Established in 2009.
In December 1931 a somewhat adrift 24-year-old washed up in Southern California, looking for something to do. A native of New Orleans, he was named Ernest Raymond Beaumont Gantt.
A couple of years after he arrived in Los Angeles, Gantt built a bar that would seat about two dozen customers and scattered a few tables in the remaining space. He called his watering hole Don the Beachcomber.
He devised an exotic menu of rum-based drinks that complemented his theme and scratched the names on a board behind the bar.
The joint became so much part of his personality that he legally changed his name. Ernest Gantt was now Donn Beach. He was the inventor of the tiki bar, a new kind of place that, over the next 30 years, would migrate from the cities to the suburbs and beyond.
His restaurant became an instant landmark, more Hawaiian than most of Hawaii itself. After WWII Donn Beach opened one a restaurant in Hawaii and he remained a fixture in Honolulu until he died in 1989 at the age of 81.
