Wow! What an amazing time surfing. I took my first lesson with Mikhaela and had the best time of my life. Mikhaela and Cary both have so much great energy and awesome vibes that makes them awesome instructors. If you want to learn from the best, laugh your ass off, and catch some waves this is definitely the place for you. Took my first lesson and coming back for more practice.

Decided to take surf lesson with Cary because of all the rave reviews I read on Unilocal.Cary called me within minutes of receiving my info. He asked a few questions about me and we setup a time for my lesson. Mikaela was my instructor and Cary also showed up to teach. Mikaela was very knowledgeable, charismatic and I think possibly psychic. We went over safety, basics and fundamentals on land. When we hit the water everything that we went over on land was applied on the water. She had me up on the board on my first try. Both Mikaela and Cary seems to really love what they do and it shows in their teaching. I would definitely recommend them to anyone wanting to learn how to surf.

Had a great experience with Kery. He really understands the ocean. I was up surfing my first day and it felt great. I would recommend to anyone whether they are just in Cali for the weekend or looking to take up the sport.

I have taken few surfing lessons in the past but I truly felt that I have learned something. Like everyone else has mentioned, safety is discussed in details which I appreciate because you forget everything once you are in the water.
But what I really appreciate is having a chance to take lesson from Antoine. He was patient and considerate throughout the lesson. I didn’t feel bad when I fell off the board or just getting sucked under the water. And he took time to talk about everyday stuff which was enjoyable. I am glad that he was my instructor. They will not disappoint. our instructor Bob and his son Zach helped us every step of the way and were so patient with us from beginning to the end. Their attitude and personality really put us at ease which allowed us to stay motivated and engaged. Not to mention Cary who was so helpful and informative on the phone keeping me updated the whole way though!, willing to work with you so that you can have the best experience possible. had such a blast taking my first surfing lesson here:) totally got us hooked & We are stoked to catch more waves soon

Awesome surf lessons. I have been making a real effort to learn to surf, so I can surf by myself. I’ve taken a lot of lessons in CA and HI. Cary has earned everyone one of these 5 star reviews, he goes above and beyond to help his students. If you want to try surfing and stay safe, use this school.
Note:avoid lessons that are sold at resorts like Turtle Bay or Toes to the Nose. At best you will learn very little, at worst you could get seriously injured.
I now go back to the spot this company gave lessons and I catch and ride about 70%-80% of the waves I try to surf with my own long board I store in Huntington Beach.

Cary and apprentice instructor, Mikhaela (sorry if I butchered the spelling of your name), met me in Seal Beach on 05÷24÷16 for a surf lesson. I had never been on a board before and had almost no experience swimming in the ocean. From the beginning they were both a lot of fun and very informative. Cary’s teaching style varies based on the type of student that he is instructing. He genuinely cares about passing on his knowledge and wants his students to feel the same passion for the sport that he has.
My safety was their #1 concern, though they were so attentive that it was never an issue and I was able to focus soley on learning and having a great time. Additionally, the lesson was on my timeline. We didn’t get into the water until they felt that I was ready; and we didn’t get out of the water until I was ready. (Side note: Wear sunscreen; but don’t cake 2″ of it on top of your head to the point that it runs in your eyes and blinds you for 1 ½ hrs.)
The experience couldn’t have been better (minus the sunscreen debacle). I really appreciate everything that Cary and Makayla (maybe this spelling?) taught me. There’s no question that I would recommend them to anyone.

I’d had a lesson the day before with another surf company before calling Cary. The other company which focused solely on «standing up» was great, BUT I wanted a little bit more. More in-​depth instruction on safety, reading the waves, learning about the tide, and timing the paddling on my own. Cary and his crew were awesome regarding what I wanted. Especially my girl MIKCHAELA!!! She listened to what I wanted to learn and gave me tons of tips, but also had the confidence in me to just let me do my thing, all while giving me constructive feedback! I had the most amazing day on the water thanks to her! Now I feel confident with the knowledge and tips that MIKCHAELA gave me to hit the waves again to practice my new skills! The lesson was super fun, and laid back.

Cary was amazing! I would highly recommend him to anyone interested in surfing. He and Mikhaela were attentive and informative, not to mention hilarious.

Cary is awesome, he taught my 14 year old the fundamentals of surfing. After 2 days of classes my son was able to ride some waves.

I was looking online and tried to find someone to teach me surfing. Thanks to Unilocal,I chose Learn2rip Surf Lesson Academy with Cary. It was a fun, adventurous and awesome experience.
I ttexted Cary about basic info about the surfing class. And Cary called me back few hours later. He asked me some interesting questions, which helps him to know what type of person I am and gave him a feeling of how to teach me.
Next day, we met up and first of all, instead of putting on the wetsuit, I was taught with some essential tips of surfing, and those tips are helpful and safe for beginners to learn surf. Then, we did some popup and ready for surfing.
The first few attemps are frustrating but thanks to Cary, I kept trying and finally with some helps, I did it!
The experience is wonderful and I highly recommend this place!
Because Cary does care about surfing and teaching surfing and teaching surfing safely.

Cary is an cool guy and an amazing instructor. I was able to grasp the fundamentals of surfing. Not to mention being able to stand several times and catching some waves. If you want to really learn and be able to stand up for some waves, look no further.

My friend and I decided last minute to take a surf lesson, so I jumped on Google and Unilocal to find some lessons in Huntington Beach. I looked at a few different options, but Cary had the most amount of ratings compared to the others, and overall he seemed the most flexible, with the «text or call any time!» I shot him a text Saturday night for potential availabilities on Sunday morning, and he called me a few minutes later to talk about the details, our skills, and what we wanted from him. Over the phone, he seemed incredibly friendly and I could immediately understand why there have been so many glowing reviews on Unilocal.
We scheduled a lesson for 12pm on Sunday in Seal Beach, based on the forecast and the tide. He was able to provide us with wetsuits and surfboards. He spent the first hour talking to us about safety and how incredibly important it is. He liked to joke around a lot and we found it extremely helpful in driving in all of the basics of surfing.
Finally, when we hit the water, he took turns pushing us into the waves. My friend and I were pretty shaky at the beginning, but after a lot of persistence and encouragement and tips from him, we both got to standing and had an amazing time!
As we were leaving, he told us that we did a great job and was confident in our abilities to brave the waves on our own in the future! He said he’d be happy to help us out in the future with any questions or concerns and was really proud of our achievements that day.
Overall, Cary was an awesome instructor and we learned so much from him! He’s incredibly affable and if you’re looking for lessons in Surf City, California, look no further!

This place was amazing. Cary knew exactly what to do with us. My friend and I met up with him at Seal Beach because my friend was a beginner and the waves were gently giants.
His instruction was perfect for both her, a beginner, and me, who is more experienced. He asked us both what our goals were for the day and we achieved them. It was a great day and his positive energy was definitely a big reason for it.

So here’s the scoop on this awesome place:
Cary is the absolute best when it comes to getting people on a board. He knows surfing like nobody’s business and he is a great coach because he knows how to communicate ideas in a thorough and detailed way but without being overwhelming. He keeps it simple and fun and he is really dedicated to his students. Thing is, for Cary this is not about making money (I mean we all need to get by in life and you don’t get something for nothing, that’s just reality). What he really cares about is sharing this amazing experience and lifestyle with people who really want to dedicate their time, effort and passion to surfing.
This is not your run of the mill surf lesson where you spend a lot of money for a limited, often rushed experience to get nowhere on your first day, get frustrated and discouraged. If you book a lesson with these guys you will have all the time you want or need to really work out the mechanics, get comfortable and develop solid foundations for pursuing surfing on your own as your skills develop.
That being said Rome wasn’t built in a day, so don’t expect to master everything in one session but achieving some goals is possible and you can definitely see some results on your first time out.
I went from never even having seen a surfboard up close to being able to stand and ride a few small waves on my first day.
So yes: You can definitely accomplish some things and feel good about yourself and what you did even if you have no experience, that is how good this school is, thanks to Cary and his team. Cary really cares about you, and your passion to surf, so if you’re serious about this he will get you there. What’s more, Cary is fun, easy to talk to, and you won’t even realize how hard you’re working physically and mentally.
I honestly had a blast learning and practicing some new skills and I cannot recommend this surf school enough. I am looking forward to my next session with Cary cause he is helping me achieve a life-​long dream.

Went to surf lesson with friends, ary and Deny were very nice! At first they gave us the lesson on the grass and just after we spent about 1 hour for learning pop-​ups we went to the ocean.
They gave me another wet-​suit when we found out that the first one is too large for me. they said that the priority of our lessons is safety and it is true — Dany was very helpful and chill, explained all the details and possible mistakes.
Cary is really energetic man and we had a lot of fun!

I took a surf lesson almost 20 years ago when I lived in Florida, and even though I had a blast, I didn’t stick with it because I was an arrogant little punk who thought he could jump from a foam board during the lesson immediately onto a short board the following day. I ignored everyone’s advice in the process and quickly became frustrated with my inability to instantly master surfing so I walked away from it (the trials and tribulations of a 12 year old).
Surfing faded to a tiny blip on my radar after that, and over the past few years while living in southern California my interest in it grew once more, but having so many options when it comes to lessons and surf schools I just kept putting it off.
I recently returned from a two week solo adventure in Thailand and it put into perspective for me how much time I was spending in my own little world. I was outside, walking through jungles, cruising through miles of narrow mountain roads, meeting strangers who the only thing we had in common was our love of traveling, and I was exposed to entire populations of people who are so happy with just having food and friends. Meanwhile, back in the states I was going to work in an office 8 hours a day only to put my ear phones in before heading to 24 Hour Fitness to spend my evenings inside another building and ignoring everyone around me. While I love powerlifting, I was letting the gym life take over my own even though I love being outdoors, under the sun, and near the water (I used to swim competitively, and I enjoy the occasional sailing or wakeboarding trip).
I looked around Google and Unilocal to find «the best» surf lessons available, not really knowing what I should be looking for. Every website I found, however, seemed to read the same. The same language, the same corporate descriptions and sales pitches, and the same feel.
Then I found Learn2Rip and couldn’t help but smile at every page of the website I read. It read like a surfer who wanted to teach other people how to surf, rather than just an entity trying to run a business.
I contacted Cary, told him I was looking to get a lesson in, and he gave me a call to get a feel for me and what I was looking for. We scheduled a day for the lesson and he let me know what to expect that day.
Cary is a great guy, and it’s blatantly obvious he’s passionate about surfing and teaching others. He asked me some questions to get an understanding for how I learn, and went over everything from tide & current fundamentals to basic surf terminology to standing up, all before I stepped foot in the water, and did so in a way to ensure we were on the same page when it comes to expectations and safety.
Cary was encouraging and supportive the entire time I was in the water, never being at a loss for tips and advice as I was figuring out how to pop up and stay standing throughout the lesson. He was incredibly attentive and was able to identify and fix each sticking point as they appeared, until I was successfully standing up and riding waves by the end of the day.
I’m stoked to finally be back in the water and enjoying an outdoor sport again, especially one that has so much depth, culture, and a beautiful connection to nature and the elegant universe as surfing does.
