Went in to find out what to do about a carpet beetle problem. Stacey immediately knew which product to suggest and answered my questions about application, safety, odor, etc.
I wasn’t rushed, and it’s great when you find someone really knowledgeable and helpful.
I didn’t know where to begin, and I don’t think I would have had much luck finding the right product for the job at a large hardware store. That’s why I came here first and left happy. Thanks!

Hire a pro or DIY for pest control? That’s like whether you call the Marshall or not, which reminds me of the Texas legend «Four Dead in Five Seconds Gunfight», which I will cover briefly, since it offers some key lessons in pest control.

El Paso, TX in 1881: Cattle rustlers nested in the thicket around Rio Grande and eluded capture, and their rancher customers who allegedly bought the stolen cattle couldn’t be convicted. But those ranchers came into town regarding an inquiry into the deaths of two vaqueros by the ranchers. This led to harsh words, but they were acquitted and went to the saloon. At 6′-4″, the tough Marshall Dallas Stoudenmire took on the bad guys (rancher accused of supporting rustlers and his ‘boys’, including a former Marshall). In a matter of seconds, guns were pulled, shots were fired, and four men were killed, 3 by the Marshall. Revenge by the ranchers’ friends was achieved later when the Marshall was too drunk to fight back accurately. (longer version at:

Lesson #1: Brave you can take on the visible pests, but to stop the problem, you still need to destroy the hidden nesters.
Lesson #2: Chemicals can be bad for you, so don’t overdo it.
My story:
The scene: A relative’s house needed some work, many months after some storm damage.
The Bad Guys: The «Dreaded Large Dark Brown Eeeuww bugs» left evidence of their presence, a disgusting disregard for the human residents.
Justice Department: Instead of just subscribing to a quarterly pest control service (expensive, and would not be effective with openings), I decided to seal the holes (mesh wire for outside and foam sealant inside), attack the ones inside. First week: bait. Second week: poison. Third week: maintenance with organic methods. The staff at Solutions Self-​Chem were helpful in pointing out the pros and cons of the control choices, and how much poison I needed.
The Gunfight: On my first return to the scene, there were many dead roaches drunk from the bait. With each week, diminishing numbers were found until after about 3 weeks, no more disgusting roaches. After many months, still no problem, although a roach occasionally comes staggering in like a drunk and dies reaching for the stars.
So, after that positive outcome, you can ‘draw’ on my experience: Take control of your pest problem yourself. You can be the Marshall of your house to those pests.
