History

Established in 2006.

Michael’s Cookie Jar opens for business out of a shared commercial kitchen in Tomball, Texas. My first customers were wholesale customers (coffee shops and caterers), corporate accounts and a few retail customers who heard of us through the grapevine. I promoted ourselves by participating in events where we could give out samples. All cookies were delivered by me.

2007 – 2008

The business slowly grew and I received favorable response to my products. We had two very good Christmas seasons which really indicated to me there was a market for our product. In early 2009 I decided to open a retail store with a kitchen.

2009

I started looking for a new location. In Oct 2009 a lease was signed at 5330 Weslayan Street. Build out started immediately.

2010

In April we move to the new location but the retail area is not open yet so we just did our baking for our usual customers. In June we open to the public. In October we have our official grand opening.

Meet the Business Owner

Michael S.

Business Owner

Michael took his first pastry job at «Sweet Stuff Pastry Shop» in his hometown of Rochester, NY in 1989. His first duty was weekend cookie baker!

In 1992, Michael began his two year baking and pastry arts program at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. Upon graduation in 1994, Michael started with the Four Seasons Resort in Dallas. In 1997 Michael was promoted to Executive Pastry Chef of the Four Seasons hotel in Houston. After two years, and feeling a need to «branch out,» but remain with a great company, Michael became the Director of Purchasing.

In 2006, Michael decided it was time to move on and opening a business was on his mind. He always thought that Houston could use a few more good pastry shops, so he decided to open his own business. Recalling his fondness for grandmother’s cookies, he decided it would be a cookie bakery making chef-prepared cookies with real ingredients. In August 2006 Michael opened Michael’s Cookie Jar.
