Food is delicious, everything! Staff offers best customer service around. Highly recommended!

Menu was appealing. New staff wasn’t aware of anything going on(water spill, brought wrong check, delivered food to wrong table, wrong drinks to another.) Food was under seasoned.

This review is for their lunch. Me and my co-workers have visited this place twice and both times food and service has been amazing! But to my surprise both times when we came for lunch the place was pretty empty, with food this good it should be a little more popping in there! If you can’t decide on what to get try the rosemary chicken. It is juicy and succulent just the way I like! Another dish I recommend is the fish and chips. The portion size for this was pretty big. Or if you don’t want anything fried, I’ve tried the poached salmon that comes with a mango pico de gallo that is pretty good as well. If your starving and want to get an appetizer I would recommend getting one of their flat breads to share. There, I’ve shared all my secrets with you.

I showed up on Monday night, after having a bite with friends at a restaurant. My visit was a spur of the moment. I heard different things about this place, and my friend is a waitress there so I though I would visit her(since I had not visited with her since before she started). Arrived around 10:30, about 4 tables(one was used by employee and guest — don’t know if she was working or not). Inside is nice, but only saw 2 or 3 customers. My friend told me where to sit outside. She took my beer order, I got a Buffalo Bayou 1836(I heard about this small craft but did not know it opened for business yet). You said it was a lager, but really it was a hoppy ale, blonde. $ 5 seems normal for small-craft. It was good, but took time to get the beer. I at least saw other workers, and one who helped speed it along and kept stopping by to ask me if i needed anything, as my friend(other server) was running to the tables with people. I think that the service behind the bar is the problem. At least from my reading of the reviews and seeing the bar, the bartender is not too much on point. I think if I sit at the bar, I might get quicker drinks. Didn’t try the food. My friend wants me to visit on Tuesdays for steak night, I will think about it.

We went there on a whim on a Saturday night and made reservations using Open Table on the way. It was great to have a table ready when we walked in, even though it was pretty empty(it got more crowded as the night went on. I love the décor and the seating. I agree with some that the service is very«just opened restaurant,» but I can get past that. The only thing I had that I wasn’t fond of was the cheese tray — there was a store bought Parmesan, a Gouda, and a so-so brie. But we also had the flat bread and pork belly as an app and that more than made up for the cheese. Delicious. We all had wine that was great, and when it came to the entrees everyone tried some of everything. The best was my short rib pasta with the side of truffle fries. AMAZING truffle fries. The cheese grits side dish and chicken entrée were also great. Not so impressed with the steak and soup. Overall everything was good with a few misses, and we will try it again. A fun addition to Rice Village.

Came here for happy hour with my fiancé last week. I’ve been here for lunch twice before and have found that on all 3 of my visits the food is overly salty. Which is definitely saying something coming from me, the queen of all things salty and sour tasting. Their happy hour specials APPEAR to be a good deal($ 5 drinks, $ 5 plates) but the food portion sizes are Lilliputian! They were out of the rice dusted calamari(boo.) so we instead ordered the pulled pork tacos. Ridiculous. $ 5 for 3 tough-meat-filled, 1-bite-each tacos are NOT my idea of a good deal. Completely unsatisfied, we then ordered the BBQ beef sliders which were neither good nor bad… but still not worth the $ 5 when you consider that the plate came with 2 sliders that were about half the size of normal sliders. Under the misguided impression that things could still pick up, we ordered the Spanish meatballs. Terrible and TOUGH. Best thing we ordered were the truffle fries. Surprise surprise the portion was actually decent. After all was said and done, we had a $ 35 bill and were still completely unsatisfied. So we ended up next door at D’amico’s with 2GIANT bowls of pasta for $ 8.99 a piece. Take that Felix 55! As a side note, we ordered a total of 3 drinks at Felix 55… all too strong and all on the verge of cough medicine elixir. Reminded me of back when I was a kid and my parents used to chase me and my even more stubborn brother around with a spoon of Robitussin when we were sick. Memories… Food: Truffle Fries 5⁄5 BBQ Beef Sliders 3⁄5 Pulled Pork Tacos 1⁄5 Spanish meat balls 1⁄5(would give lower if possible) Drinks: Vesper 1⁄5 Bellinitini 2⁄5 Mojito 3⁄5 Will only be back for the fries :)

From the name of the place, I was expecting a diner-like restaurant, but to my surprise, it was a fancy lil’ establishment. Somewhat hidden between Baker’s St. Pub and D’Marcos(I might have spelled it wrong), I would not have realized there was a restaurant here until my friends wanted me to try it out. First off, it was a Friday evening and we sat at the bar for dinner. The bartender was very nice and sweet. They apparently will make you any drink you’d like. I wanted a Ramos Gin Fiz(like the one from Anvil) since I noticed they made some drinks with egg; sadly tho, they did not have one ingredient to complete it, so I told her not to worry about it(I believe it was some flower essence). The truffle fries here were amazing! Actually, it’s the best truffle fries I’d ever tasted! Unfortunately, that was the best item there for me. Although our server/bartender was awesome… other than the fries coming out timely, everyone’s entrée showed up 1.5 hours later. Yup… 1.5 hours later! Fortunately I was with good company and that helped. The manager also«took care of us» by buying us a round of drinks and taking $ 25 off our tab. So… you’re wondering«why still the 3-star??» It’s because the food wasn’t all that. I tried their pork chop and it was decent. The red cabbage salad that was served with the pork chop did not pair well with it. Also, the plating of the entrée looked like the meal was just thrown together. Although it could be because they were rushing our food out to us, but that is still not an excuse(especially since we are paying so much for this meal!). The chocolate cake there(basically a molten cake) was decent as well. I’d rather go to Grand Lux Café for theirs so… that should give some of you a good comparison. What will bring me back? The truffle fries… seriously, those were some dang good fries!

Parking is validated. The space is a lot smaller than what it appears to be like on the website. Seems like the patio ambience could be thrown off by the bakers st crowd. Drinks: fun and innovative, like Anvil The Felix 55: delicious and fruity The improved rum cocktail: so. strong. haha The server set up was a little different. We had 3 waiters taking care of us throughout the night Scallops(3⁄5) served on top of pearled cous cous. Our scallops had no color what so ever. They did still taste good… looking at pictures they look more appetizing Truffle fries(3⁄5) I feel like truffle fries are all the same. It just depends on your preference for the cut of the potato. Jen S. mentioned how our fries were reminiscent of McDonalds fries lol but delicious nonetheless. Duck(4⁄5) the duck was cooked perfectly served on top of more pearled cous cous. The fig something added another dimension of texture. I want to come back to try more dishes. Intrigued by the chicken entrée… i like how our waiter pointed out that if the chef can prepare chicken well, means he knows his way around the kitchen Prices are a little steep though.

Good food but with operational problems. My group had a reservation for a party of 6 on a Friday night at 7:45pm. Our waiter greeted us promptly, took our drink orders, but it took awhile for us to finally get him to come around to take our food orders. The drink orders DO take a long time to fill because they are custom cocktails, but oddly even the beer orders take a long time to fill and all they have to do it bring the bottle over. I ordered 2 small plates for my meal(rather than 1 large plate). I let the server know to bring it all out once since it was my meal and not an appetizer. Another person in our party also ordered a small plate. The rest of our group had large plates and we ordered 3 sides. Some 45 minutes later, the food finally comes out all at once. It looks delicious. I take a bite of my risotto – IT’S COLD. So is the risotto of another person in my group. I then try my seared scallops. Also cold. However, all the other dishes and sides are overall pretty hot. I don’t mind waiting 45 minutes for my food but it better be coming out piping hot. I imagine the kitchen had difficulty timing the preparation of all our dishes. The waiter agrees to take the food back and they resaute the risotto and resear my scallops. It comes out quickly and is definitely hot this time. He says he won’t charge us for it. The strange thing too was we ordered 3 beers, all the same type. Two of them came out looking the same, and the last was significantly lighter in color. These things weren’t our waiters fault, but I think the kitchen staff is still really disorganized. And yes, their truffle fries are awesome.

Kind of an odd location for this kind of restaurant. It gets a bit lost amongst all the bars/restaurants in Rice Village. That said the décor and atmosphere is definitely a few steps above the norm. Very reminiscent in concept to Benjy’s and Hearsay Gastropub in Market Square. We started with drinks. The waiter did warn us in advance that the cocktails would take a bit of time because they’re handcrafted(similar to Anvil). I ended up choosing something called Enhanced Rum Cocktail and my girlfriend went with the recommended Felix 55. Her drink was great; my drink tasted like a mix of cough medicine and paint remover. The host noticed I barely drank it so they took if off our check and I settled for a beer instead. The truffle fries were delicious and crispy, dusted with some parmesan. I do wish they would have put more truffle oil on them but overall we liked them. For my entrée i got the pork shoulder special and my girlfriend got the grouper. Both fantastic choices. The pork was tender and had a sauce with currants that complemented the braising liquid. The accompanying mashed potatoes were good, although not worthy of the pork. The pan seared grouper had this awesome caper and tomato sauce that complemented the white fish perfectly. Finished it off with a basil crème brûlée which was competently executed with just a slight hint of basil. Our server was great, very friendly and always checking up on our table. The food was slow to come out, to be honest. The place was very full when we arrived so I suppose that can’t be helped. Overall we were very happy with our experience at Felix 55.

I was originally planning on reviewing Felix 55 after a couple more visits but I don’t think that’s going to be happening anytime soon. Located where Andre’s used to be in Rice Village, it’s a great location(for me at least) since I drive by it everyday. I managed to convince a friend to try it out with me last month and we decided on trying out their happy hour menu. Wow, do not order the chicken flatbread. There’s only been a handful of times in my life where I didn’t finish something(clean plate member here!) and the flatbread here was one of the times. Fortunately we ordered the flatbread off their hh menu and I feel sad for anyone who had to pay full price. Terrible. The sliders on the other hand were not bad. Service was decent. We sat at the bar and had a few drinks. Bartender was not particularly helpful but he did smile at us which was a big deal because if you read the reviews on this place, service isn’t exactly one of their strongpoints. Our meal here was so forgettable which is a shame because the place is really decorated beautifully. But for drinks, especially during their happy hour times, not a bad choice! Felix 55 isn’t at the top of my list when deciding on where to eat especially with Benjy’s so close by, but if someone suggested coming here, I’d be okay with it. Mainly because I’ve heard great things about their truffle fries.

Mediocre food; less-than-mediocre service. Was here on an empty weeknight. Took a half hour for the waiter to even take our drink order; took an hour before we were even asked if we’d like to order. We asked if there were specials; told no. Asked if we could substitute one vegetable for another; told«no, the chef has designed the dish that way.» Um, some people are allergic, or simply don’t like, certain things. So those things got pushed around the plate. Hip, trendy atmosphee. Too«trying-to-be-trendy», in my opinion.

Incredible concept! I mean who has swings on their patio to enjoy a Sunday Funday? So I am disappointed to write a negative review but needless to say, the service is HORRIBLE. We sat on the patio for 15 minutes without anyone coming outside to service us. My friend proceeded to go inside and the place was empty. It STILL took him 10 minutes to get one simple cocktail — a mimosa. Complicated, I know! Staff just walked by him without acknowledgement, bartender continued to gossip about whatever, etc. I guess they didn’t feel like working that Sunday! There’s too many local Village hangouts that are service friendly to have to put up with that frustration. It’s too bad.

Michael Kramer was on point this night! We started at the bar and got some drinks(waiting on slow friends) but I had a drink that was so strong that I think they took it from Davenports menu… I had the chicken and waffles for the first time ever. Pretty good after looking across the table see a steak and losbter mac’ n cheese. It is a good spot to check out if you are in the area. The photos were very helpful for me selecting this spot to check out.

Best truffle fries in the city. There, I said it. Let the arguments begin. If I was to judge the restaurant by the truffle fries alone, it would be «woohoooo as good as it gets! «The same goes for the delicious cocktails(Felix 55 and Jump-start were top notch) and our ever so courteous and attentive server. So why the three stars? Like many have stated before me, there were several errors in the kitchen and bar. Granted, they are still pretty new so they should have some leeway. A snippet of the minor errors: — Outside the establishment, they posted the happy hour menu. One would assume that because it’s the designated happy hour time, this applies to the entire restaurant. Not so. It only applies if you sit at the bar(and we sat in the dining area two steps from the bar and were politely told that they couldn’t serve us the HH menu). That’s fine, but it should’ve been more clearly stated somewhere, somehow. No biggie, but it’s the little details. Since we wanted to talk privately, we stayed at the dining room area. — I was served my Felix 55(prisco, St. germain, peach bitters, egg white) within 5 minutes of my order. However, my gf’s drink(some specialty fruit-preserve w/alcohol) did not come for awhile(but our server kept reassuring us that it was because the cocktails were handcrafted, etc). We understand the wait, except that the server came back and apologized that the bartender had neglected to tell him that the drink couldn’t be made because some ingredients were missing. Shouldn’t the bar be stocked with the ingredients if they are gonna offer this specialty cocktail on the menu? — For my third round of drinks, I reordered the Jump-Start which is blood orange bitters, soaked sugar cube, bubbles, aperol, with a fresh rosemary. Since this is my second Jump-Start, you would think I’d know the difference if I received another drink. I called the server over, showed him that that it was a) the wrong champagne(rose, etc) 2) had no sugar cube 3) had no rosemary 4) just an entirely different drink altogether, like night and day. He apologized since he didn’t serve it to us(one of the other waitstaff did). He came back with my correct drink order and said, «yeah, at first I thought maybe you just took out the rosemary but you are right. It’s a totally different drink.» I’m starting to rethink the bartenders back there. Aside from errors like that all night long from the kitchen and bar, I’d have to say that the food definitely was delicious. I was able to try the ceviche & truffle fries(which were perfectly crispy, not too thin, peppered with parmesan cheese and parsley) and enjoyed them immensely. This place has great potential and in fact, by the time we left at 8:30pm it was a full house. I’d just hope they’d get all the kinks out in their service errors to really make it stand out. I would not hesitate going back but perhaps sitting on the bar side as the bill for two of us girls came out to about $ 100.

The worst restaurant experience in Houston. Short review — The service was the worst. Very literally the worst. — Uncomfortable seating — Raw chicken that had to be sent back. — A flatbread dish that had to be sent back — Techno music — No effort to apologize or compensate for mistakes Long Review /Story It was 8 o’clock. My wife and I walk in to Felix 55 using the entrance closest to the bar. It looks like a hip, tiny place that makes fancy drinks so I ask to see a drink menu. The bartender ignores me and someone that works there tells me to head to the host stand at the other door for service. «All I want is a drink» I plead aloud. Nobody listens so I walk twenty feet to the empty host stand in search of a fix. I wait 5 minutes before the same person that sent me to the host stand walks over to speak with me. «My reservation is for 8 people at 8:30. My wife and I just want to get some drinks until everyone else gets here.» «Wonderful» he says, «just go to the bar and let me know when your party arrives.» We both walk back to our initial positions and I again try to get the attention of the only bartender. «Can I get a drink?» «You’ll have to get a server» she replies. F this woman. Everyone working at this place seems too cool to be helpful. Anyway, by this point my wife had found a seat on one of the awkward couches 10 feet behind where I was standing and I join her. A server comes up and I order two glasses of Proseco and two drinks made with egg whites. It’s another five minutes on ill conceived couches before my sister-in-law walks in with her boyfriend. «We ordered you two drinks. They should be here any minute.» They look pleased by my foresight. 5 minutes later we still had no drinks and the background music changed to techno. Everyone hates me. 22 minutes later the first drinks arrived. At 8:35 the rest of my party appears and we move ten feet into the main dining room. We order round number two. A bottle of wine, a few glasses of champagne, a Pimms Cup, vodka martini with blue cheese olives, and a gin martini. 15 minutes later we have nothing but water. I waive the waiter over to preemptively put in an order for round 3. This reminds him that we still haven’t received round two. He scurries off and eventually round two shows up without blue cheese olives. I live. They take our orders for appetizers. The appetizers showed up before round three. At some point they get around to taking our dinner orders. I opt for chicken and waffles(because it’s ironic and I’m an asshole) and my wife ordered the veggie flatbread. A few other people ordered similar things. We all put in orders for more drinks. Twenty minutes into our wait for round four and the main course, a waiter comes up and asks if we are in a rush. If we are, he said, the people that ordered the chicken and waffles are going to have to change their selection because chicken and waffles are going to be another 30 minutes. Nobody opts to switch because we’re all the kind of people that order chicken and waffles in a techno bar. 20 minutes later we had food and drinks. My wife’s flatbread is not veggie and the chicken portion of the chicken and waffle dishes are dangerously raw. I look around for our waiter. Nothing. I waive my hand in the air for help — the international sign for«something is incredibly fucked with these dishes» — and I get nothing. Finally, I got up and walked to the front to get some assistance from the ass-goblin of a host from earlier. «I’m sorry I can’t do anything. Let me find the manager.» Three minutes later the manager arrives and stares at us like we just crapped on his table and asked him to smell it. He had the dishes taken away and sent some pasta dishes in their place. The only time we got prompt service was when we asked for the check. The manager waived the fee for the incorrect /inedible food but charged us for the more expensive pasta dishes. I wanted to punch him in the dick. We contemplated arguing but eventually decided against it. We’d had enough. We paid the bill, walked next door to Baker St. and vowed to write a scathing review. If you read this and still go to Felix 55, you deserve to have a horrible time.

I loved Michael Kramer when he was at Voice, so I was excited to try his new venture in Rice Village. The location is really odd. Tucked between Baker Street and D’Amicos, it really doesn’t fit in. Nonetheless, parking was easy in the garage and they validated. We shared four small plates to start: the lobster mac n’ cheese(deliciously rich), cheese board, gnocchi and the scallops. The scallops were the stand out of the selections, but there wasn’t a disappointing dish in the bunch. I had the snapper entrée and it was amazing, I highly recommend it. Our table shared two orders of the truffle fries(and every last fry was devoured) and an order of creamed corn. No matter what you decide to order, make sure you get the creamed corn. It was amazing. We shared the basil crème brûlée and the chocolate cake, the crème brûlée was the highlight and the chocolate cake was a touch dry. Service was really green. If you aren’t going to write down orders, don’t come back to my table a few minutes after we order to double check things. This happened with the appetizers, entrees and dessert. It was really odd. We ordered a second bottle of Malbec, but they had run out, the server was good with recommending something else. My biggest annoyance was that there was no port on the menu to enjoy with dessert.

As frequent visitors to the Village, the fiancé and I were intrigued when we saw Felix 55 sprout up next to Baker Street. We had no earthly idea what it was, or more aptly, what it was going to be. It’s now open, and the best description I have for it is «benjy’s redux.» The publicity for this place has been mediocre, but it’s actually helmed by Michael Kramer, former chef of the Tasting Room and Voice. So yeah, it’s got some pedigree. As mentioned, Felix 55 desperately wants to be benjy’s: American-New, Upscale Casual, Happy Hour Destination, so forth and conquer. It(kind of) succeeds. The location just feels wrong, buried in between Baker St. and D’Amico, across the street from BON and Bronx. Still the décor is nice and dark on the interior with ample exterior seating. If you want the Mad Men-esque cocktail hour, sit inside. But if Sunday funday is more your thing, outside is your bag, baby. Service was average to mediocre. Our waitress was friendly enough, and food was brought on time. However, there just appeared to be a bit of the clueless mentality from the waitstaff overall. Case in point: at multiple times, they tried to clear our plates while there was still food left on them. And while we were still picking from them. I’ll blame it on the new opening. We had a group of 8, arrived in time for happy hour, and ate through dinner. Given that we’re Asian, we started HH family-style, and just continued through the evening. So I’ve got a pretty good spectrum of dishes to tell you about. First, the HH menu. All by-the-glass wines and cocktails were $ 6. I had the cab. My first sip was off, and I really felt the wine was corked(a wee bit of cork floating in there only added to the paranoia). But after a few sips, everything was fine, and the boldness improved as it sat. The cocktail menu didn’t exist when we went, but they said it was forthcoming and any cocktail type was available. Food-wise, the Felix 55HH pales in comparison to benjy’s. Dishes are all $ 6. Kramer’s famed Truffle Fries(of Tasting Room fame) is the first thing on the menu. The ceviche was fine, standard fare with an emphasis on the lime. The pesto chicken flatbread was well-flavored, but parts of the bread were burnt(and let’s face it, benjy’s HH pizzas are off the hook). My personal favorite were the ricotta-corn fritters, but only because they tasted like hushpuppies from Long John Silver’s. Damning with faint praise, I am. As much as the HH menu disappointed, I was amazingly surprised by how the regular menu tasted. I’d actually recommend dinner here over HH. Tatare of Big Eye Tuna($ 12) — A little bit steep in price for an appetizer, but very well seasoned with a bite from the scallions. The call for tuna made it less fatty than salmon, which I’m not sure is a good thing or bad. It reminded me of Uchi, which seems to be a prevailing trend in raw fish appetizers at American-New restaurants these days. Carpaccio of Beef($ 14) — The wallet-unfriendly appetizer prices continue, but this one was also quite tasty. The beef was perfectly carpaccio’ed(can I saw that?), and the capers added a requisite kick. Still, when you consider that $ 14 will buy an entire steak at Outback, your wallet starts to whine a little. Gulf Red Snapper($ 24) — The fish was good. I’m not sure what the base was, but the fish definitely wasn’t dry. The highlight of this dish were the vegetables, a charred sweet corn and moderately stewed grape tomatoes. When combined with the fish, delish. Fried Chicken & Waffles($ 18) — Amazingly good, and compared to fish prices, a steal at $ 18. The chicken was perfectly juicy, and the extra crispy batter was almost CFS-like rather than typical fried chicken. The waffle was fine, but the potato purée and pan gravy were absolute money. Hanger Steak($ 18) — Like the chicken and waffles, the hanger steak was an eye-opening surprise and great value. The steak was well-seasoned, if only a tad overly salty. Like the snapper, the vegetables were on point, particularly the mustard glazed potatoes. Best of all, the roast onion vinaigrette that intertwined the meat and the sides is making my mouth water right now. Lobster Mac & Cheese($ 10) — This side dish has the Unilocalers buzzing, and for good reason. It’s delicious. Chunks of lobster swimming in jack cheese just sounds devine, and it is. The pancetta is overkill, though, and puts the salt level at overwhelming. Creamed Corn($ 5) — It won’t remind you of Rudy’s, but it’s still good. The chives are a nice touch in the spice side, and the panko puts forth an added crunch. Basil Crème Brulee($ 6) — Not a huge fan of crème brûlée, but the basil was interesting. Better than The Girl & The Goat’s lavender crème brûlée, anyway. Butterscotch Pudding($ 6) — Looks ugly, but I loved the taste. It’s topped with sea salt and lemon crème, so sweet, salty and sour all intermingle. My favorite dish of the night, and a great way to end it.

This is going to be a great place! I came here for a work dinner and it was a great evening! It was a Wednesday night about 7:30 and it wasn’t packed, but there were several people there. They have what looked like a great patio, but we sat inside. The waiters were a little slow and sometimes took awhile to bring our drinks, but that can be expected with a new restaurant and a group of 7. I think they were open for only one week when I was there. For appetizers we had the tuna, beef carpaccio, sea scallops, and arugala salad. For the main course I had the pork with sweet potato and spinach. I thought it was very good! Everyone seemed to enjoy theirs as well(duck, red snapper, and pasta). For dessert we had the basil crème brûlée. Yes you read correctly… basil. We also had chocolate mousse that I thought was excellent. Needless to say there was nothing left of the desserts. The owner came over twice and even sat down and talked to us. Very friendly guy. I gave it four stars only because it’s new and they still have a few kinks to work out.

HOLYFREAKIN’ AWESOMEGOODEATINGBATMAN! This place just opened a block away from my house in the Rice Village area. For those of you who venture in these parts, it is literally brand new, and sits right next to Baker St. Pub. My wife and went just to find out what it was all about… only to find out that it is INSANELY good. Mojitos — awesome, truffle fries — awesome, lobster mac & cheese — ridiculously awesome, and fried chicken and waffles — fuc#&ing AWESOME! I have to give this place a five. I realize that the past couple reviews have been thumbs ups… i guess I’ve been on a «good» restaurant streak, and, honestly, I can’t complain. But so far, Felix 55 is in the top 10 best meals in the past year. Chef Mark Kramer is a master at what he does — and apparently people in the culinary world already know this. What was a dinner below a hundred bucks, tasted like it should have cost at least a couple Benjamins. I will be here a lot… Apparently, it is also a lounge as well. And just to add to the pleasant experience… the ambience and décor made it feel like we were in a swank restaurant in NYC! Catch dinner at this place before the trend begins… this place will be packed as soon as everyone finds out how freakin’ phenomenal their food is!
