History

Established in 2012.

Platform Houston is an educational and co-​working campus located in the heart of Rice Village, at the corner of Morningside Drive and Times Boulevard.

We are committed to helping Houston startups, not only by providing physical space, but also by holding educational workshops and lectures, mentorships, internships, and community events to engage the entire entrepreneur ecosystem.

Platform Houston believes that entrepreneurs must lead the startup community. We must provide the resources to help the entrepreneurial community in order to keep the immense talent in Houston.

My team member from school invited me here to meet up with a developer and we discussed plans for a project that would help us both for our class project and their client project. The conference room is nice and cozy. People say it’s a nice and quiet place to study like Starbucks, but subtract the noise and coffee. I don’t have a membership here, but I’m going to find out and see if it’s worth coming here more often.
This place is very nice and wide open. I’d say it’s a great location to be in the rice village area. Über has their office in the front corner.

Platform Houston opened its doors in the heart of Rice Village in October 2012. Their prime location makes Platform especially accessible to individuals coming from Rice University or the medical center. After a day of hard work, or after attending an event/​meeting, one can easily hop next door to Baker St Pub, or across the street to a myriad of bars and/​or restaurants to unwind or continue conversations.
This coworking community has made impressive traction in pulling community members together through lecture series, hackathons, and open house social events in a very short time. Their first public event, a lecture by the ‘Edison of Medicine’ (Dr. Billy Cohn) +reception, organized by
(a Houston community of medical entrepreneurs), drew over 100 attendees. The large number of guests fit comfortably in Platform’s black wheely office chairs (there must be 100s of these there! I could sit in one all day!!). Since then, Platform has hosted numerous lectures on various topics related to entrepreneurship and for small businesses, which draw diverse crowds of professionals and students.
