Uma Thai Spa & Wellness Center

This was my first time trying Uma’s and the Thai style massage. It was easy to get an appointment and the facilities are clean and comfortable. The décor very relaxing and ambient. There was lots of parking in the Koko Marina shopping center and a plus that it’s located close to my home. My therapist Katsumi was extremely knowledgeable and very effective. I had told her my neck and shoulders were tight — she used a technique I’ve never experienced before that really help alleviate my problem areas. I also loved the technique she used to stretch out and crack my back. I left there feeling refreshed and very relaxed — much like how I usually feel after a hot yoga session without the sweat :). I will definitely return again.
The fees are on the higher side $ 70/​hour but they do offer discounts if you buy a package — 6 sessions for $ 50/​hr or $ 300 total to be used within 1 year.

Massages are one of those habits you can’t really kick; not only is it good for your body, but for your mind as well. It’s also a habit that’s not cheap, so when I saw that Uma Thai massage had a groupon deal, I jumped on it since it’s so close to work.
Uma Thai is located in the Koko Marina center in Hawaii Kai. It’s located on the second floor (there’s an elevator and you take a left) above teddy’s bigger burgers area.
Their hours are wide so it’s great for those 9 – 5’er jobs (or 10 – 7 like I am). I called and got an appointment that same evening.
I am TERRIBLE with names and I had just gotten off work so I’m sorry I don’t remember my massage therapists name but she was nice and accommodating. I thought Thai massage was clothed (like shiatsu) since they’re stretching and moving you around but she had me disrobe.
Massage:
She was consistent with strokes and fluidity. Pressure was good and she asked me about it enough. Oil was used. Sheets are kind of thin and it got cold fast – and I’m a curvy gal!
Also, Keep In mind, ONLY THE OWNER DOES A FULL THAI MASSAGE. I found this out after the massage because I noticed some Swedish and lomi strokes incorporated into her routine and asked the therapist. Not that I didn’t like the massage (I bought a certificate) it’s just nice to know if you’re getting a Thai massage or combo massage. My therapist also told me Thai massage is more painful and that if I wanted the full Thai experience, to make an appointment with the owner.
Price: moderate. Not quite the $ ⁶⁰⁄₁ hour bit, but also not the $ ¹²⁰⁄₁ hour range either.
Atmosphere: it’s small, but clean. There are some Thai accents here and there.
The treatment rooms are small as well but I had no issues. It was cold so maybe ask for another sheet.
All in all, I’d return. I mean, I bought a certificate after all.

THIS PLACE IS AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACE! My sister and I bought a voucher online for my parents 40^th wedding anniversary to have a couples massage. When they tried to make the reservation the lady picked up the phone and when they didnt have the voucher number, my father asked to make the booking and call back with the voucher number, and the lady told him to «go somewhere else and f$%K off» — to my parents! I called her back to see what was going on, and when I asked to speak to the owner she hung up on me straight away and then every time I called she hung up again and swore at me again. This is DISGUSTING service, no matter who or what the circumstance. I am furious. She has ruined our gift to our parents, and wasted our time and we are now trying to get a refund for this. I would not recommend anyone giving such despicable people any further business.

Had a great experience here tonight. I have Been looking for a place close to home so I purchased a Groupon for here. Appointment was easily made via text. Uma was my therapist and she did an astounding job! She asked me if I had any problem areas and she gave those spots extra consideration. I opted for the Thai signature massage which mixed some stretching and deep massage. I will definitely be back!

Went for the first time yesterday and it was terrific! Bought a groupon and didnt know what to expect. Ive gotten literally hundreds of massages in the course of my adult life and at few dozen of those were in Thai style. First thing, this place is conveniently located at the Koko Marina center, with plenty of parking. My first impression walking in was that it was spotless– really clean, and well decorated so made me feel relaxed right away. I was 20 minutes early and she got me started right away instead of making me wait. The actual massage was so so good… a combination of dry and oily massage, she really worked through the kinks in my back and shoulders. Afterwards she stretched me and took a hot cloth to wipe off the oil. It felt amazing, just thinking of it now makes me want to call in to schedule my next visit!

Had a massage there last week. I had Kasumi (I think that was her name). The most amazing service. I had knee surgery earlier this year and knowing that, she applied the perfect amount of pressure to make sure that leg was taken care of but not overly stressed. Boy does she pack a punch! I was so surprised to see this tiny Japanese lady in front of me when it was over. At one point she did this crazy ninja back cracking move where I swear my whole body was off the table. Insane.
Anyway, I forgot something there and they called me right away but I was off to dinner so couldn’t go back. I told them if I wasn’t able to make it the next day, to just throw it away. Turns out I wasn’t able to make it so I texted them to let them know they could discard it. They said ok.
Today, it arrived in the mail!

I was looking for a place that could take walk ins and this is the place! Not only was it convenient, but it was a great massage! Clean facilities, friendly staff, comfortable tables. All in all a great massage establishment.

HORRIBLE customer service!
My friend and I bought a Groupon online since it was good deal and we both live super close to Koko Marina. Following the instructions on Groupon, they inform you that appointments are required and to mention the Groupon when booking. So my friend texts the number listed and asks about openings and that we would like to use a Groupon… She gets no reply. I then decide maybe I should try in hopes that I’ll have better luck than my friend. I ask if there are any openings but I don’t mention the Groupon yet. Low and behold, I GET A TEXT BACK. The person replying asks if I’ve been there before. I say ‘no’, Then they proceed to ask me how i heard of them. Ummm, does it matter!!! Whatever, I answer ‘Because I live in Hawaii Kai and go to Koko Marina’. The person then tells me their prices and so at this point, i decide to mention I purchased a groupon and would like to use it. Guess what happens next?! I GET NO RESPONSE BACK. WTF. Obviously, I realize that they don’t want to take me because of the Groupon but like why offer a Groupon if you don’t want to accept it? Anyways, THANK GOD Groupon has a 3 day return policy for deals bought locally because my friend and I called them right up and had them refund our money. I WOULD NEVER GO HERE OR TRY TO GO HERE AGAIN. THIS IS PLACE IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS AND HAS THE WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE. SO UNPROFESSIONAL, WE’LL SEE HOW LONG THEY LAST IN HAWAII KAI.

This is a terrible business. First of all, they never pick up the phone or call backs after leaving voicemails. I had to email them in order to hear from them. When I finally got the a response via email, they request to provide the voucher # in order to book the appointment. My flight got delayed and requested a different time since I was given different time. When we land I got an email stating how do you recommend this business? They redeemed it without my approval and never even got to use. When I called them to find out, got to their voicemail again. Someone texted me from that business stating thanks for you business (I never used it).They are extremely rude, unprofessional and not respectful. I’m very disappointed and would file a claim. I strongly do NOT recommend this place. First time in Oahu and terrible experience. Avoid at all cost, they are scammers!

This place is worth the drive and little extra you pay for the massage! My boyfriend and I went for a couples massage, and want to come back ASAP for another. The bf got the Thai massage and I got the Uma Thai combination. I can’t wait to try the Thai massage as he was raving about Nancy his massage therapist for days. They stretch you in ways you don’t think you could bend and with the perfect amount of pressure. I’m also all about the deals and they have a special package ATM of 5 massages for $ 50 each! Best massage I have had in a long long time!

My best friend texted me about a Groupon for this place. Naturally I look this place up on Unilocal to get a feeling of how other people like this place. Seeing all of the mixed reviews made me a tad bit skeptical. especially after reading the reviews from people who used a Groupon. BUT I thought I’d give it a try anyway… I may have a different experience right?
My friend did have trouble getting in touch with the business when she tried to make an appointment. She’d call and leave messages every weekend for about a month and didn’t hear back so we thought we’d back off for a bit and let them get back to us. Maybe they were on vacation? Or maybe needed to remodel their location… Who knows. But as the Groupon was getting closer and closer to the expiration date we both started to get antsy so she called again. Success! She was finally able to make an appointment for us to cash in our Groupon.
Uma Thai is located at Koko Marina above Assagios. Our appointment was for 11am but they were running a little behind so we waited maybe fifteen minutes from our appointment time. I’m not usually bothered with waiting since I understand things come up. Meh. (At least it wasn’t any longer. then I’d say something)
Since it was the bestie and I, we shared a room and once our massages began I was in zen. They have an assortment of massage styles but since I couldn’t decide, I chose their Combination just to play it safe. When asked for amount of pressure… I decided between medium and firm. Now I know to choose medium! LOL! I have a lot of tension in my shoulders and the girl doing my massage was going to work on my shoulders and neck. there were some instances where I couldn’t handle it but I kept my mouth shut. (I didn’t want to look like a baby lol!)
I enjoyed my massage very much. I had what felt like a high afterwards. Zen state of mind perhaps? Who knows but I was relaxed as fudge. Of course that only lasted a few hours after returning to the real world.
Price wise… I would buy a Groupon and return rather than paying full price. It’s about $ 75/​hr. I’m super cheap so I’m used to paying a dollar a minute. What I also liked was the fact that even though I had a Groupon, they didn’t skimp out on anything. Very much enjoyed my massage!

I originally was gonna give two stars but I’m disappointed in the owner and the way she handled things after I complained. I’m being generous in giving a star and that’s only because we were greeted nicely and because my boyfriend liked his Thai massage.
When we got to our cramped room to receive our couples’ massage, we unclothed and lay down to wait. Then the women came into the room; one Asian woman for my boyfriend and one Caucasian woman for me. The Caucasian woman introduced herself and then asked what kind of massage I wanted of which I said Thai. I mean, isn’t the place called, Uma «THAI»?
Then the lady rudely tells me she doesn’t do Thai and no one else that does do it is available and that if that’s what I wanted, I should have indicated that when I called when I made my appointment.
Wait a sec… WHAT?!! Uh, isn’t that the person’s job on the phone to ask me that when I called? And who doesn’t have a massage therapist at a place called,“Uma Thai” who knows how to do Thai massage? It’s not called Uma Swedish for a reason, right?
Anyways, I just said okay I’ll take the massage from her despite wanting what I originally wanted.
It was horrible!!! It was hands down the worst massage I have ever had. My 9-​yr-​old son could massage better and stronger than her!
Suzanne, my massage therapist, was very inconsistent with her massage. What she did to one side, she didn’t always do to the other side. She sounded out of breath while massaging my back and seemed to take breaks by doing weird things in her massage so she could catch her breath by doing what she called «vibrations» because I asked her what she was doing. Her vibrations consisted of vibrating her hands while lightly gliding them over my back which did absolutely nothing. Usually massage therapists have a method in which they massage, but it seemed as though she was just making things up as she went with no real structure. Her massage was very disjointed and she just hopped around my body back n forth. She also used way too much oil. She was oiling her hands I’d say every minute. It took me 5 showers to get that oil slick off of me.
Anyways, after leaving there I wrote an email to the owner on their website. The owner wrote back pretty quickly and I was initially impressed that she did so but felt she gave way too many excuses and tried to paint a picture of how she’s from Thailand and came to Hawaii and has been massaging for 10 yrs and blah blah blah. She begged me not to write the Unilocal review until after I have gone back. She gave the excuse that it was her mistake in assigning a trainee to massage a client without her approval first.
This is part of what I wrote back to her. «When people pay for a service, they need to be informed and asked whether they want a trainee or a professional to massage them. If a trainee, then usually, you don’t pay full price for the massage. And if it’s a groupon and you meant for only trainees to do the massages, then you must include that in the advertisement or else it’s false advertising.»
Woman, I could care less about your background. Your background and 10 yrs of massaging has nothing to do with the crappy massage I had.
In any case, I wrote back to Uma thanking her for writing back and for extending the offer to massage both my boyfriend and I again. I last wrote to her on April 22^nd responding to her email response to me.
I think she should’ve followed up with a phone call apologizing again and attempting to get me back in there to prove to me they’re capable of giving a great Thai massage. She made the mistake and therefore should be going out of her way jumping through hoops to get my approval back. Writing a first response email is great, but excellent customer service is following through and not just doing the bare minimum to get by.
I am really disappointed because I’m from Hawaii Kai and was excited about a Thai massage place opening up. I will refer no one here and will warn everyone, especially in Hawaii Kai not to go here.

I purchased a Groupon for this place and didn’t get to use it. I called 3 times a day for 3 days straight and no one ever answered. I even left a message twice and I still have yet to receive a reply. What a waste of money!

I used a Groupon to schedule a couples massage for my wife and myself while we are vacationing in Hawaii.
The two young massage therapists did an amazing job and very professional. If I lived here I would have a weekly appointment.

It’s been one week since I had my appointment and nobody showed, nobody called with an explanation. Up to now, I still haven’t heard from anybody, can you say unprofessional??? I won’t recommend this place at all! My rating is negative 5 stars!

WOW– wish we had done this the first day not our last day as we would have come back — my husbands comment was I have NEVER had such a fantastic massage–
Highly recommend to make your vacation perfect —

Went to Uma Thai Spa the other day and love the massage by Uma. She has the right pressure in the right places. This location is Koko Marina Shopping Center is way nicer than the other location, feels brighter with a good vibe, and better for parking. Although this place doesn’t have a shower, you get the hot towel wipe down after which feels super good!
They were running a special of 5 hour long massages for $ 50 each, so I purchased that so I go more often instead of just went my back feels out of alignment or pain. Next time I’ll go back with my wife and get the couples massage!
This is strictly professional massage guys so no ask about the happy ending… but after your massage, you’ll feel better!!!

I haven’t had many massages, but i enjoyed myself. I had a couples massage with my friend.
They were very friendly and accommodating. The waiting area was nice. Very relaxing
I would go back and reccommend them to others!
Also they told me about a deal they are having now, something about 5, hour long, massages for 50 dollars each. Sounds like steal.
