So this place was actually pretty fun. It was a little weird at first. We came in on a Saturday night and there were no tables available(at 10pm). The place was packed! The music was live and it wasn’t like your ordinary club music. The band sang songs from Michael Jackson to country. It was kind of cute watching people dance with each other and not really grind with each other. The crowd was very hipster. The men dressed in oxfords, denim, and collard shirts. The women, in dresses. There were a few people that dressed a little more casual. I felt like me and my friend were the only Filipino girls there although there were a few oriental Asians there. As for the drinks, we did not have any issues(as I’ve read from other reviews that people of color have this issue). The bar tender quickly acknowledged that we were there to buy drinks and quickly served us. You won’t find a bunch of locals coming to this bar, but it was fun, and the people were easy going. Lastly, I’ve been to a speak-easy bar in the mainland, and this was nothing like a speak-easy. Late at night it turns into a mini club. Drinks are on the pricier end. For two AMFs we spent $ 28, and $ 13 on cocktail drinks.

Love this place at the modern to get some drinks and a bite to eat or just read a book in the morning. The study is pretty awesome since it’s like a hidden room at the modern and only opens early in the morning or at night time. They do have happy hour from 4 – 7 so u can get drinks and food at a cheaper price. All in all a great place to chillax.

Absolutely love this place. Beware though that after 1000 pm the crowds increase significantly. Definitely a great spot for drinks, live entertainment and an incredible atmosphere. Would most certainty bring someone on a first date or to just relax during a Wednesday evening from a hectic week. The drinks are a little pricey but definitely worth it. Would recommend the Great Gatsby… a combo of sweet tea and bourbon… LIFE!

This place will not serve you if you are of color. My friend and I sat down in this establishment and watch every single person get serve instead of us. When I finally called over the waitress after an hour of them being inattentive she responded to me with absolute disrespect as if I was bothering her. This spot looks beautiful and has a live band, but if you are black don’t expect to be served or treated fairly.

This place looks amazing, the whole set up and furniture that they put here made it look modern and super cosy. But the music was so loud I could barely here my friends when we were in Hawaii. We ended up getting in and getting out after about 10 minutes. If you like loud music with plenty of people this is the place for you. I’m more of a person that likes lounges to be a tad bit more empty and less noisier. But this place does look really nice! :)

Came here with some friends on a pretty busy Saturday. Pretty chill atmosphere, but drinks are hella pricey. We ordered a round of 4 shots and 4 beers and the tab came out to about $ 75, so it ended up being a pretty sober night, but what can you expect for a bar in a hotel in Waikiki. Though, if the drinks weren’t so pricey, I could really like the place. Pretty chill place to «study»

Looking for a quick app since my wife skipped lunch. She has a highish standard and loved the place. Good house white wine and nice choice of beers. Not the standard hotel bar but that’s why it’s so cool.

I really enjoyed The Study inside The Modern hotel. Great space, nice drink menu, comfy furniture and perfect lighting. On a couple of the nights they had live music; it was jazzy acoustic, not loud rock and roll and made for a great ambiance booster. Next time I’m in Waikiki, The Study will be on my short list of must stops.

One of the many reasons I love staying at The Modern when I’m visiting Oahu. I’m absolutely delighted by the turning bookcase that revolves to reveal this spacious lounge that still somehow managed to feel intimate. my favorite spots are the little comfy nooks to hole up in to enjoy your cocktails while enjoying some live, local music. I’m personally a fan of tuning in whenever Jason Laeha is performing :) Drinks here are on the strong side, but I suppose that’s a good thing when they’re charging $ 13 a drink. Still delicious though!

My fiancé, two friends and I were at the study last night for drinks. You would think for $ 12-$ 15 dollar drinks at this type of establishment, that they would be served in glass cups, but instead, we were appalled that the bartender served us our drinks in PLASTIC cups. When confronted about this, the bartender exclaimed that the glasses weren’t clean yet. What a DISAPPOINTMENT!

Located inside the Modern is a nice little bar called The Study. A live band was playing, basically two folks on acoustic guitar with seats laid out to give it a library type of look, hence the name of the place. Drinks, like all Waikiki bars, are expensive. It appears to be a classy type of place, but they didn’t seem to mind that I showed up in my shorts and aloha shirt.

Good drinks. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the live music. The waitresses did take a bit longer with our bill, but overall, it was a fun establishment. Parking for valet is complementary for 4 hours!

This bar has such an interesting look, you literally walk past a wall of shelves and books that looks like a «secret passage wall» to get into the lounge. This place is perfect if you’ve spent the day at the Modern’s pool or just finished dinner at Morimotos and want an after dinner cocktail in a very chill environment. Tables are sections off so that they are kind of private, which is nice when you’re on a date and want some space to yourselves. The staff is friendly and efficient, and the ambiance of this place is really relaxing. Perfect for nights when I want a Macallan neat and my boyfriend wants a beer.

I love this place Clean classy pretty great lighting modern… @ the modern hotel lol It’s a place u take a lady Relaxed dress code with clientele dressed in a variety from suits and fedoras to people straight from work in their uniform and backpacks and slippers. But the ambiance lighting and music somehow maintain the classy upscale vibe with no uncomfortable feelings of judgement for what u are wearing Great relaxed and talented live music bands Yes SIMPLESOULS plays there I love them Very intimate not too small Kind happy staff

One of the best cocktail bars with the smartest mixologist bartenders that I’ve been around. Every cocktail was fantastic, with a price-point typical of Waikiki. The casual side of a nightclub atmosphere dominates this dark cove of such an awesome hotel. A hidden gem for those serious about their drinks.

We went to The Study on Saturday night after dinner with a small birthday party per the birthday girl’s request. It’s a trendy lounge with expensive drinks but can be fun to people watch. They have a food menu available but we were really full from dinner so we didn’t try any food. There was live music & the musicians & singers were great. The female singer was very talented had a lot of «soul» in her voice. Pros: Great lighting, great live music, beautiful, large, clean ladies room. Cons: Expensive drinks at $ 13.00 each, gets crowded as the night progresses & the posers show up. Free parking with validation but don’t forget to tip your valet.

Great on Friday and Saturday night. The bartenders know their stuff and make pretty much any cocktail you order. It’s a good jumping off point to the club next door, called addiction. There is usually a good group of well-dressed girls and guys.

Expensive drinks, try $ 7 for a bottle of Coors Light! Rarely any seating available. Valet Parking or you can pay a flat rate of $ 7 for the evening.

Boosie — «An abbreviation of bourgeois, the adjective form of bourgeoisie, a French term for the upper-middle or merchant classification. Often used derisively to describe actions of those transcending their social class.» Urban dictionary Yep I said it. That is what The Study is. I felt like I was hanging out with the debate club back in High School. This would be a nice place to take your girl/guy for a couple of after dinner drinks before heading out for the night. Cost is high. Wanna spend 13 dollars on one drink? This is the place. Trendy, Stylish, modern. Yep, you get that here along with the stuck up bartender named Amy. I guess I wasn’t part of the crew, maybe she was on her moon, maybe she was having a bad day? Who knows but damn that girl had a face of stone and an attitude that goes with it. I had to laugh at her to not get myself worked up. I am only trying to order a drink. I didn’t know I was invisible since the guy standing behind me got his drink. Maybe I should yell, maybe she doesn’t understand English? Maybe I can’t speak English? I don’t know. My second drink was better since the waitress actually smiled, acknowledged me and brought me my drink with vigor. This place is O.K. Another sausage fest; at least when I went.

Have you ever been to a posh bar in a lobby before? Well, if not go here. If you have, welcome back! It’s a great setting which is hidden behind walls during certain times of the day and reveals itself during drinky time! If you go early it’s very relaxing and loungy. If you go later, well, you could be left standing in your super cute, uncomfortable shoes wishing you had a seat in the sea of people and increasing volume of chatter. This has happened to me… I learned. If you enjoy people watching, this is an ideal spot. I love that there’s no dress code so everyone can come on by and enjoy a drink or two. Its a blended crowd of professionals, tourists, honeymooners, beach goers(still in swimwear), club goers, and the fashionistas. As for my husband and I, well, we fall into the«We want to dress up, but lounge and chill»! Drinks are delicious and they have a great menu of cocktails and food. I love my West Thai Story! Drinks and food are yummy, but can be pricey. So be prepared. Just remember that its in a beautiful and modern hotel… in Waikiki! Just a thought/tip: Order from the bar, those servers are a bit slow. In fact the last time we were there we asked for a refill on our water and then watched her walk back and fourth four times with nothing in her hand. We decided to just go back to the bar and get refilled as well as order another round. Oh well! Parking may also be a bit tough. Valet, park across the way by Red Lobster, or pay for parking around the harbor. You’ll find something :)
