Some days, you just get an epic poke craving. And having just moved to the Waikiki area, I set out to find a delicious, non-touristy poke bowl nearby. Unilocalers did not disappoint — Shaka Poke fully deserves its high rating! The owner was extremely friendly, the fish was fresh and tasty, and the miso sauce was interesting(in a good way). The concept is a «Do-It-Yourself» poke bowl, which is kind of gimmicky — basically, the fish, onions, seasonings, and sauce are shaken together in a plastic container, and you are given a separate container of rice, upon which you pour your freshly seasoned poke to complete the bowl. I don’t really see a big difference from standard poke bowls, but the option to choose a sauce and seasoning is a nice touch. My only warning is to ignore Unilocal’s street directions — this shop is near the Royal Hawaiian between Seaside and Lewers, not on Hobron like the map implies. Don’t make the mistake I did and go the wrong direction!

One of the many spots i came for poke and it did not disappoint. Super friendly man, forgot to ask his name, that made my delish spicy poke. It was a lot of food for less than $ 10. I had leftovers for the next day and it still tasted good. The onions still had some crunch and the sauce was yummy. Its in this small little shopping plaza and kinda tucked away on the far right. Come give them a try. You wont be disappointed.

I’m not a poke expert but this was the best that I had during a 1-week stay on Oahu. It’s a tiny booth in the basement of a shopping center in Waikiki. The miso sauce for the fish was tasty and the guy claimed that his was the only shop that used that type of sauce on the fish. No idea whether that’s true, but nonetheless very good.

Delicious. Easy, refreshing poke. Sign me up. The owner is very friendly. The poke is top notch fresh fish. You add the sauce you like, all fresh homemade: shoyu, miso, wasabi or spicy Japanese mayo. He lots of little extras also to customize your perfect poke. Shaka is an unusual location, Down one level from street level in a stall inside of a Japanese travel agency. I was on a quest to eat as much poke as possible in the Waikiki area in order to find the best. Shaka gets my vote. Simple straight forward, inexpensive, poke and a bowl of good rice. If this place was on a beach it would be perfection!

Very interesting concept, certainly original! You receive a container of fresh, raw fish along with a container of seaweed and sweet onions and sesame seeds, a container of rice with furikake on it, and your choice of sauce-I chose miso sauce. You combine the raw fish, seaweed, onions and sesame seeds along with the sauce in one container and shake it up. Pour it over your rice and voila! Fresh poke bowl! Refreshing and delicious. I’ll need to try the other sauces.
