Prince of Peace Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and has served in Waikiki since 1959. The Mission Statement of the congregation states: «The mission of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church is to Reach, Preach, and Teach the saving knowledge and love of Jesus Christ our Lord in Waikiki.»

In the late 1950s the American Lutheran Church (a predecessor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) sent several pastors to begin congregations to join Lihue Lutheran Church on the Island of Kauai (founded in the 1890s) and the Lutheran Church of Honolulu (founded in the early 1900s) to bring the Lutheran perspective of the Christian faith to the Hawaiian Islands.
