I had the mini curry plate with rice and macaroni salad. The curry was bland. Not much taste there. Rice is rice and the mac salad was average. Plate lunch atmosphere with outside seating shared by other restaurants. Service was okay. I don’t think the lady working there enjoys her job. A little pricey at six dollars for a small mini plate. I’m am deducting a star for being cash only.

For Senpai, I give ‘em 5 stars… Why? For the following reasons: 1) The food is very good. Not epic, but what you expect for plate lunch style? 2) Prices are reasonable in comparison to the other 100 downtown restaurants within 5 minutes of Senpai. 3) The family who owns this restaurant is awesome! Nice people, excellent customer service. Plus you gotta give ‘em kudos for coming from Ewa every day :) 4) The location in Reminton Plaza is among the best of the downtown places to eat, ambiance-wise IMO(downstairs especially), plus you get lots of people watching lol. My favs? kalua pig and cabbage, the chicken papaya is ONO, mochiko chicken — LOTS of gravy thank you on the chicken and da rice(neva mind the poster no like the gravy lol), hamburger curry is ONO. I eat here prolly twice per week. One of my go to spots for lunch. I highly recommend!

My favorite place to go for lunch downtown! Aunty makes the«grandma’s style» pork adobo, her Hamburger curry is winnahs, chicken papaya soup, and kalua pig & cabbage is usually what I always get. And you can’t beat the loaded mini plates for $ 5.50! Secret item: Halo Halo is a must have for those hot days downtown.

Ono plate lunches, Filipino and local food, tastes like home cooking, and resonably priced, can’t go wrong! Tucked away in the corner of the Remington building on Bishop Street, they have seating along the walkway thats covered. Their local daily entrees are the standard menu items, the Filipino entrees are Pork Guisantes, Pork or Chicken Adobo, Pinakbet, Chicken Papaya Soup, Balatong, and Pancit. Their specials include Dinuguan, Vegetable Lumpia, Teriyaki Spareribs, Garlic Chicken Stir Fry and Mochiko Chicken w/Brown Gravy. They have a mini, regular 1 or 2 choice that includes rice(brown or white) choice of mac salad, tossed greens or corn and your entrée. Great tasting food, I really enjoy the stews and laulau and love their mac salad!

Since I am now pretty much forced to eat more protein, and fish choices are limited on the downtown lunch crawl, I am also forced to eat at places I’ve never tried. That’s how I ended up here. The food is definitely nothing to write home about, very basic and quite boring, if you ask me. But maybe I’m being a food snob? There are about 10 or so hot items to choose from, like curry, shoyu chicken, some pork dishes, and other random items. Everything looked pretty run of the mill, and not necessarily fresh. I got the mochiko chicken, but with no gravy. I thought it was weird that it came with gravy. Have you ever had mochiko chicken with gravy? Not me, and I don’t eat gravy anyway. The mini plates($ 5.50) come with 1 scoop of rice and either tossed or mac salad and regular plates($ 7.75) come with 2 scoops of rice and choice of salad. My chicken was OK. It was quite flavorless, surely not true mochiko chicken, as it clearly was not marinated. It had a light breading that maybe was mochiko flour, but other than that, nothing that would distinguish it as such. The dressing for my salad was gross. It was ranch, but I think that it was sitting out for a while(or maybe forever) because it was warm and sour tasting. Eew.

I thought SENPAI was japanese at first. Actually, it is but, I guess its filipino too. Plate lunch style place. Plates are $ 7.75. The lady behind the counter was very nice and explained all the food choices but, laughed at me when I said I wasn’t in the mood for pig blood.(I’ve never been in the mood for pig blood) Ordered the chicken mushroom and it was great. Id go back again. They also have kalua pig n cabbage, shoyu chicken, beef stew and other local stuff. outdoor seating so, if its raining… dont go.

Reliable, affordable and tasty. As noted, the menu is a mix of Filipino and local food. The owner and her family are welcoming and have good memories for what your order is, even if you haven’t been there for awhile. I recommend going before 11:30 am or so, just to beat the Fort Street Mall area lunch crowd, as this place is a popular destination of students, workers, visitors and residents of the area.

In a rush and you’re nearby this is a quick place to get what you need a mini plate or regular plate this small family owned shop has Filipino and local foods I like the Garlic or Mochiko chicken when they have it(I’m usually late) or sometimes I get what ever else they have like tripe stew. It’s a good decent meal on the average of plate lunchiness so to say. Best if you’re walking from nearby there are tables around the area and below in the courtyard if you want to eat there.

This largely Filipino plate lunch place is a favorite for a quick, inexpensive lunch. The owner and her family are the sweetest people. Every day they have a mix of Filipino and local favorites. You’ll find mochiko chicken, chicken stir-fry, pancit, chicken and pork adobo, garlic chicken, etc. The $ 5.25 mini gets you one entrée(or choice) and two sides. The sides can be any mix of white rice, brown rice, greens and/or mac salad. Although they go a little easy on the seasoning(the adobo could use more vinegar) Senpai makes for solid, reliable lunch place.
