I haven’t been disappointed here although my co-workers have said it’s really what you order that dictates their experience. Portions are inconsistently sized, for example. But personally, I stick to my staple here, the Furikake crusted salmon with a delectable lemony cream sauce, on a bed of brown rice and cooked vegetables like baby carrots and yellow and green beans, with a lemon wedge. Sometimes the fillets are larger than at other times. But it’s typically a very flavorful and filling, satisfying meal. My son ordered the ahi katsu with a sweet sour sauce and tartar sauce drizzle, and same accompaniments of brown rice and vegetables, and he really enjoyed it. Dishes are cooked to your liking — rare, medium, well, etc. Both dishes are under $ 10 each and it’s probably a bit more to spend at a casual place I still remember as a former McDonald’s but it’s a sit down place with a bit of service… they’ll serve you your food when it’s ready, a cup of water. Sometimes, they will even place your utensils. It’s a decent alternative to other lunch spots downtown. Sure, there are better options, but certainly there are worse ones, too.

3 star food. 1 star service. I ordered breakfast one morning and it was dead no one was there. still took me 20 minutes for fried rice. the cook finished my plate and just left it there. didn’t say nothing to no one. the cashier was no where to be found. so I waited at the counter forever. everyone was way in the back doing something. they need a lesson on customer service badly.

Coworkers decided to come here for lunch since it was the closest during a heavy rain downpour and didn’t want to risk going out further for lunch in downtown. I usually don’t come here since I was not impressed with the 1) food portion for its price ‚ 2)how my chicken was not chopped for one of my pasta dish I ordered 2 years ago(most meat are chopped bite sized), and how salty my dish was the first time I came here. Anyway, I had no choice but to return and give then a chance. I had ordered a ahi sandwich with corn chowder soup combo for $ 7.75. First, I asked for no mayo at the cashier and they still had to added mayo. Next, for a sandwich that cost that much did not include tomato or lettuce? I felt ashamed and my coworker who ordered a burger combo had everything for a sandwich and even shared one of his tomatoes for me. The corn chowder I thought was okay, homemade but it needed some meat like bacon to make it worth since a large bowl of it cost five bucks. Will I still come back again for lunch? No.

For a place that’s named Three Star, they certainly serve up some four-star quality food. They have a large menu of plate lunches, pastas, and salads, but everything is just«Eh,» compared to the #19 Furikake crusted salmon! The restaurant can get pretty crowded and hot during lunchtime, but stick around to hear lawyers, bankers, and state workers bitching about their clients in a public space. The bread pudding is hit or miss depending on the day, but they offer bite-sized tasting portions at the front counter. Try it – because when it’s good, it’s GOOD!

From their American menu, I ordered the Pasta with Shrimp Scampi today at lunch time. Bad move. The shrimp came back still white and under cooked When I got my plate back, the garlic bread that came with it was cold. And I realized there was just too much sauce on the plate. The employees work hard but when you push for quantity, you lose quality. Recommend they have someone check the plates/orders before they go out!

This is not your father’s plate lunch place. For less than $ 10 you can get a fresh, yummy, filling lunch. And they don’t rely on great heaps of rice to fill you up. My personal favorite is the Mile High Crab Cake & Burger. This working man’s version of surf & turf comes with your choice of fries, salad or soup. The crab cake is almost as big as the burger itself. Sadly it’s a special and not available everyday. Off their regular menu I really like their Blackened Ahi Salad. The ahi is well grilled and nicely seasoned. I’ve ordered lunch for meetings from Three Star and the food is universally liked. And even though they don’t have any vegetarian dishes on their menu they were able to whip up a really tasty salad with seasoned tofu on request. It had good flavor without relying on the salad dressing. There’s a second Three Star on Richards St. at Punchbowl. They serve breakfast and lunch there.
