Great place to go in a Friday Night! Good old school music! The kind that gets you on the floor and just dance dance dance! People are interesting from all over the world. Rumours is the place to be even in Tuesday’s Hot Latin Salsa!

First time here, was only there for 2 hrs for a party that reserved the whole place. There’s 2 bars, one on each side. Lots of seating. There was a drag show which was pretty fun and entertaining. There was never ending delicious pupus! :) the bartenders are nice. I ordered a lava flow but I could barely taste the alcohol. And I ordered chambord and pineapple… that was basically 90% chambord and a splash of pineapple. Strong but… yummy. Haha the dance floor is in the center, kinda small for the amount of people that can fit inside Rumors. Upstairs they had a nice size room for photobooth. The layout of this place is pretty great! Bathroom is small tho, idk if there’s more than one bathroom but the one upstairs has only 2 stalls for ladies.

This rating ISONLYFORTHEEMCEELASTNIGHT. THECLUBISFINEANDTHISISTHEONLYTHING I WISHTHEYWOULDCHANGE. So, I love Rumours. It’s a great club with great workers, patrons, and folks who just like to have fun. Last night, they had an emcee, a bigger Japanese guy with a golf cap — guys, you have to stop. I don’t know whose idea it was to bring this guy in, but he was terrible on multiple levels. He would not shut up — basically, he ruined the night. He sang into his mic off key. He was off-beat. He told stupid jokes. He acted like everyone loved him. Here’s a clue for you, Mr. Emcee: You are not there to party down like the rest of us. You are not there to sing your favorite lyrics. You are there to promote Rumours and announce the occasional birthday — THATISIT. Don’t ruin the night of others with your slapstick jokes, bad singing voice, and terrible timing — nobody wants to hear it. Rumours: I’ve been coming here for more than 15 years. This guy, right here, could stop me from coming. Do you want to risk losing someone like me? A patron who generates revenue, brings in friends and coworkers, and spreads the word about how great Rumours is? Or are you going to keep this guy around and ruin if for me, and probably you in the long run? I do hope you make the right choice. This aside, I love Rumours — all of it — just lose this guy of get him to shut up.

Pretty annoying that they would turn down hotel guests for not having a collared shirts why the strict dress code for such a mediocre place. Booooo!

Disclaimer-This review is based on a Private Fundraising Event that I had recently organized in March 2016 at Rumours. Although Rumours is a Nightclub this is also a place that holds fundraisers and parties during the week. As the Baseball mom for 3 out of the 4 teams my boys play on, I’m almost a Pro at fundraisers. We recently did one at Rumours to Fund Raise for an upcoming Baseball Tournament. This was my first time fundraising here, and I would do it again the next time we play in another mainland tournament. Here’s the Info… Call 944‑4396 and speak to Larissa she’s the Asst GM and runs the fundraising side of Rumours. Have some dates in mind and she’ll let you know the available dates. They have 5 hour Blocks for the party in our case it was a Sunday from 4p-9p. The upfront Security Deposit of $ 500 is needed to hold the date/time. Out of that $ 175.00 will be kept that’s the cost of the Security Guard for the party. So you will get the $ 325 back. The BIG bonus is that Rumours will Provide the Food, DJ, Entertainment and set up/clean up for your party and there’s ample parking. Your party/fundraiser will just need to meet the $ 3000.00 bar tab and is 21+ so sorry no kids can attend. I had the team donate raffles/door prizes and presell tickets to come to the event. Rumours can hold 400 people, I think we sold 300 tickets but i know that not everyone showed up. We were also able to have a photo booth and live entertainment in Rumours and we brought in our own desserts. IF you dont have live entertainment no problem, they have a full DJ system and DJ who will play for you. Rumours will provide 3 cold dishes, 2 hot dishes and a Starch for the party to feed the guests. I was concerned they would be serving low cost/quality food, but the food was actually very good and we had enough for the night. We had Chinese chicken salad, Chicken karaage, Lumpia, Edamame and Yakisoba. We had a video slideshow and they played that throughout the night as well. The cocktail servers were efficient and friendly. I was stressed about making the Bar Tab but found out we meet that about 2 hours in, so that really isn’t a problem. Everyone that attended had a great time it was fun for everyone BUT the main thing is that the night was a SUCCESS! We made about 6K just for the tickets sold and about $ 2500 more on the door/raffle prizes. So that assisted families on expenses for the trip and we can now focus on playing instead of raising funds! The reason for the 5 stars is because Larissa is truly awesome and a pleasure to work with. She followed up on emails and phone calls and really helped a first timer for Rumours like me on what was needed to have a successful fundraising event here. She’s an asset to Rumours! I plan on doing another one Next year! thanks!

Very poor house keeping, no one picks up trash on ground and waitresses take forever to clear tables. We asked one to clean tables and she said she’ll be back in a minute, but too 7 minutes to come back.

Same old crowd over the years just getting older. Good mix of music as they have the routine of songs down pat. They could use some new oldies to play. Atmosphere is friendly and everyone here wants to have a good time. 3 – 4 times a year is good to get my groove back. Far out man.

Could not get into this club because I was not wearing a collared shirt. Really Rumours? Get with the times. It’s not prom night and you are not an exclusive club by any means. Should I decide to return to your very exclusive night club, I will be sure to stop by men’s warehouse and rent a tux.

Nice to hear disco 70s and 80s music on Friday night. I would give it 4 or 5 stars if they had a good sound system or disc jockey. I cannot tell where the problem exists. Usually too lound and you still cannot hear the music well. 40s to 70s crowd earlier until 10 or so, then younger crowd later 30s to 60s. Have not been there on. Saturday for awhile. Still a fun place even though sound system sucks.

Maybe it’s because I love 80’s music — or even 90’s music… But I really do love Rumours! On Saturday nights, they have«Flashback Saturday’s» and let me tell you, it’s awesome! You have to really enjoy the music to have a good time. The crowd here starts early — they’re a little older. Okay, maybe a lot older than I am, but it’s okay! The dance floor is fairly smaller, but it gets packed super quick once the crowd starts rolling in. There are two dance cages for those who want to dance above the rest. Fair warning — there is always someone in the cage, so you’ll have to fight for your spot! And it’s usually Grandma or Grandpa that takes over the dance floor and the cage! Total nostalgia. I love the 80s. Enjoy!

0 stars if I could rate them… Got there when it opened and was seated on a unreserved table. 20 minutes later was told by their waitress the table is reserved and she forgot to put up the little reserve sign up. Rudely told us we have to move while accompanied by the rent a cops, as though I was going to pick a fight. Didn’t care to relocate us to an available table… Be careful using your credit card there. They added $ 4 more on the cover charge. We’re seeking fraudulent charges for this nightclub. BAD Service ZERO Stars!!! Rip Off nightclub!!!

Beer is reasonably priced. Rent a cops stare at anyone who isn’t Hawaiian like they are tough but reality is a bouncer cannot touch you and they have no more rights than a normal person. Don’t believe the movies they can’t force you to leave they can only ask and if you don’t leave they can call the cops to make you leave but that is the extent of their«power» Dress code is weird. I showed up with an $ 80 Designed shirt from express and had to go buy a cheap $ 20 Hawaiian shirt to meet their collared shirt dress code which is lax when you see the amount of women with fupas bearing midriffs and males with ratty polo shirts on but it is what it is. Don’t go expecting to be impressed but if you want to relax for a few hours drop in.

So you think you can dance? No, but there are a lot of people who do not care and dance like there is no tomorrow here. That is what I like! Came here when I was in middle school remembered the cages. They are made out of metal and as long as it is not occupied, anyone can dance in there. It was a Friday night and I believe it is hop hop night, because they kept playing the top 40 style music. The DJ was good and mostly every song that played, they play the music video for it on the flat screen TV monitors overhead of the dance floor. The dance floor size is not too small(about 25 feet in height and 125 feet in width). The usual mature adults are here dancing and binge drinking. Be mindful, if you are under 25, you may feel awkward since you will be surrounded by aunties and uncles. Bring your crew, and you’ll be fine. Rumours Nightclub is connected to the Ala Moana Hotel and you can park by Macy’s second floor where you can simply walk across a bridge that connects to the second floor. After you enter from the mall parking, you just need to take the escalator down and on the first floor, you will find Rumours. Cover is $ 10 and security is strict on dress code. Men must wear a collared shirt(had a friend who wore a turtle neck and manager had to approve, which the manager did) and dress shoes/casual shoes. Ladies must wear something except a plain t-shirt and no slippers(plain flip-flops). You already know the double-standard!

My friend and I decided to come here last week Friday to celebrate my belated birthday. This was our usual hangout back in the day. We would be here every Fridays, back in our 20’s. It used to be so packed that you couldn’t even walk through the place. Fast forward 10 years and how things have changed. The place is officially dead. There must have been 50 people in the club, tops. All the bartenders were standing around staring at each other, no line whatsoever. It must be due to the shitty customer service. I swear, if it wasn’t for the great food I’d give it 1 star. My friend and I find an empty table to sit down. We look for the cocktail server and she’s no where to be found. Twenty minutes later, she comes strolling along, bussing all the old glasses that are around us and cleaning the tables. She does not look or acknowledge us. She went to drop of the dirty glasses, I don’t know where but she wasn’t seen for another fifteen minutes. By that time, two couples show up and sits down at the tables around us. She walks straight up to them and takes their drink orders. I told my friend that we must be invisible. She comes back, drops off their drinks and was about to walk away before my friend flags her over. My friend asks her for a food menu. She kind of gave us this look like she didn’t want to be bothered. She took our order for food and drinks, and went away. She showed up five minutes later with the drinks and the food came out twenty minutes after that. The service was disappointing to say the least. The food however, was a different story. They food here is always great. My favorites that I get all the time are the fried chicken wings and the soy beans. The wings are breaded perfectly and fried just right so that it’s still juicy on the inside. It’s served with carrot sticks, celery sticks and ranch. The sauce they use on their soy beans are bomb. It’s sweet, spicy and garlicky all rolled into one. I’ve had soy beans at a lot of places. Rumours by far, has the best soy beans. I love the food here. I would’ve given this place 5 stars if the service didn’t suck so bad.

If you hear someone yelling, «My EYES are Bleeding!» as they are walking around the Ala Moana Hotel Front Desk area. It isn’t because they are really bleeding but that they, like me, have seen something we can NOT ever unsee. More than likely they have stumbled back into brightly lite normal light in the Ala Moana Hotel after being inside Rumours. No it is not a nightclub. Nightclubs have well– let’s face it, standards. Rumours is a hotel lounge open to the hotel guests. It would be just fine for a hotel like One Ala Moana or the Ala Moana Hotel to have just a bar, background music and easy going bartenders making sure everyone is happy. Instead we have a loud 60’s 70’s 80’s(bad mix) and 90’s music on a small enough dance floor where every geriatric that thinks they can dance due to the latest uptick in their medication thinks they can dance. No– Please just because there is a sing on your forehead does not mean that there is a sing on the Rumours cages that says you need to be up there doing whatever it is you think you are doing. If I were Jon Taffer– I would have a field day on Bar Rescue with this one. Identity crisis, Check. MIADJ, Check. Old People, Check. Wait staff that is unfriendly when they should be showing Aloha — seeing as it is the gateway to Waikiki, Check. And everything dated from 1960 or around then, Check. Am I being too critical? I don’t feel like I am. I hear Rumours advertised on modern hip radio stations– so I assume that they are going to bring a modern 21+ over crowd not a 90+ over crowd. Yeah, the mood does change between happy hour when it is free to the more cooler crowd later in the night when they start playing 80’s ish music. But come on… It is not the same music as what you were on the radio with when YOU were advertising an event night. So I am being fickle. The expectation I have for a nightclub that calls itself and advertises itself as a nightclub is vastly different from what I experience. Going off on a tangent now. I was at a concert in the Mozartainum in Salzburg Austria, the school formed because of the genius of Mozart. I expected to hear music like the Magic Flute or other classical pieces of the ilk. Instead there was a pianist that plucked one key at a time. I was aghast and making off handed jokes like, ‘Does he need help– I have 9 other fingers he can use’ ‘Did we pay a schilling per key for him to play and he has to make 26 last the whole night?’ ‘I know I have time to go to the bathroom before he hits his next note, but I need to know where it is so I don’t miss anything.’ Yes– I was a rude American speaking in English in the Mozartarium but even the Austrians in front of me AGREED that it was not a good performance that was worth paying for at all. So my point bringing up the story– if you get in no cover and you have nothing to do at night and want to go to a lounge– then go to Rumours. If you want to pay– there are much better venues that are so much more modern. Sometimes being disappointed is worse than not going at all.

Still going!!! We had a great time. The crowd is on the ‘mature’ side of the age scale on Saturday nights, but that’s FINE…’cause we’re getting there. BUT, we ALL still know how to get on that floor and DANCE :) People on that floor simply love to dance, and I appreciate that. The music selection. my favorite…70s, 80s, 90s. We were mainly there for the dancing, so I can’t speak to anything else. I’ve read other reviews with MANY more opinions that are probably true, but I wasn’t paying attention to anything except the music choice.

Seems like a place where middle aged people go to play. The cage is definitely a site, especially when observing a grandma getting jiggy with two military boys. Not sure how that makes me feel. Gagging but kinda like a car accident where you can’t take off your gaze waiting and wondering what will happen next… then grandma touches… uh…I then had to turn my head! Guys standing in a straight row gawking and watching, as if waiting for the packed crowd of dancing women to make a sudden mistake or whatever sort and caught off guard so they can strike like a cobra stalking their prey!

I don’t know why I keep coming here… Maybe it’s cause it’s the only meeting spot on this island in town that has a large number of Africans and African Americans on a Friday night. *Sigh*…not like I’m the ghetto pop my booty on the table kind of gal. Not that that’s the only kind of type here but it’s the majority. If you are bored don’t worry there is always fights here so you can have some after club entertainment for your pleasure. Enjoy!

No pun intended, it’s been both literally and figuratively AGES since I’ve been to Rumours, and I must say, they’ve got a really good«vibe» goin’ on there. All the patrons were very friendly to flirty, with no attitude whatsoever. Same for the staff(sans the flirty part). On top of that, unlike some other clubs, this place has just enough ambient light to actually see where you’re going, as well as who you’re actually mingling with. lol It was also very clean, housekeeping-wise(and I stress that part!) as far as clubs go, including the restrooms, which for me really is the deal maker here. Good job, Rumours staff! Being one of the oldest standing nightclubs in Honolulu(again no pun intended), much respect to Rumours!

A group of us which included about 10 people went here after our 20th high school reunion. I must say the music was right on target for our age group. They also played current hit songs. There are elevated cages for dancing, enough room to move on the dance floor and to be honest, I don’t know how the prices are for drinks because um… I don’t remember. I do remember going to the bathroom which is located directly outside the front door. I remember that because there was water on the floor which I almost slipped on twice. Cover charge was10.
