Philip K. White & Associates (PKWA) is a Honolulu-​based architecture firm dedicated to innovative and environmentally conscious, green design. Founded in 1984, the firm has developed a reputation for creating beautiful and livable spaces that embrace the way clients think, work and play.

In addition to projects on Oahu, PKWA has done a number of projects of all scales on Kaua’i, Molokai, Maui, and the Big Island.

History

Philip K White & Associates is well-​known for its innovative, award-​winning designs, having received numerous awards and accolades, including the American Institute of Architects, Honolulu’s Jack C. Lipman AIA Member’s Choice Award in 2010 as well as an Award of Excellence from the American Society of Interior Designers in 2009, for the company’s work on its Silver LEED-​certified offices at 40 S. School Street.

In addition to being a leader in green design Philip K. White & Associates is also a leader within the community and has dedicated itself to the environment as well as supporting local nonprofits. In 2010, PKWA was one of seven businesses to receive the Hawaii Green Business Award from the state of Hawaii for its dedication to conserving resources and protecting people and the environment. PKWA has also partnered with the Honolulu Habitat for Humanity, dedicating more than 450 hours to designing plans for new homes for families in need.

Business Owner

Born and raised in Hawaii, Philip, affectionately known as «Pip», is a sixth generation kamaaina who has special regard for the local environment and culture, both of which inform and influence the way he designs. He specializes in signature commercial and residential projects that combine regional forms with new technologies. His designs communicate a sense of accessibility and sophistication. This is particularly evident in his award-​winning residential projects, which link living spaces to the outdoors in a way that reflects the more relaxed aspects of the local lifestyle. Pip’s experience as an architect includes land planning for a new town, master planning, residential communities, and urban super blocks, as well as designing shopping centers, luxury homes, resorts, commercial buildings, a museum, and visitor destinations.

Pip earned a B.A. in geology from Colgate University in New York, and is a member of the American Institute of Architects.
