Paul, although a good barber, is too busy answering calls, walking out of the shop, etc. to do a really decent job. The other barbers there are average to only fair. They all have a certain style they do, and that’s it. They don’t say much, and you really feel like they would rather be doing something else. You can make an appointment, but if someone shows up just before your appointment time, they will take them anyway-so what’s the point? There are much better shops than this.

First of all, I understand this place is highly rated but after going 2x, I have to say I’m not as impressed as all the other folks. On my most recent visit, Paul cut my hair with a fade, but he spent almost no time on it and it seemed very sloppy. The whole visit took about 5 minutes max. Granted, he must have been in a rush because I was one of the last cuts of the day, but he owns the shop… what’s a few extra customers? I also asked him to line me up all around and since he was rushing, he had forgotten. I had to remind him about it. No biggie, but just another sign he wasn’t taking his time. I don’t believe rushing is an excuse anyway… he could have turned down the reservation instead. After inspecting the cut at home, I noticed he left 1 patch that was still long in the faded area. Maybe I’ll try going back again at a different time of day, but 3x a sucker and well, I’d be a sucker. We’ll see if I can find another place in the meantime.

This is a quality, no-nonsense, high-value, comfortable place. My son and i have been going to Pauls Barbershop regularly for years. Ive seen Paul, Annie, and Tracy. All are good, but keep going and you may find a favorite and become a loyal customer, like us. I will go to no other hair salon now. My advice: smile a lot. Be kind and patient if you have to wait 15 – 20 min. Be clear and brief with what you want(they are all very smart and understanding, even if they dont talk much). Tip generously. Repeat monthly. I always leave not only looking great, but also feeling great about an honest, hardworking, quality business like Pauls. They are good with kids. Undoubtedly 5-stars.

I turned to Unilocal after the lady who cut my hair for almost two years moved and I lost her number. Mahalo Unilocalers for guiding me to Paul’s. Close to home, easy parking, and Tracy; she is fantastic! Tracy worked hard on my hair, it was long and raggedy. The ends were dry and dull. But, she fixed all that and my hair looks good and healthy again! While I was there, the phone rang constantly, and people were waiting after me(Sorry guys, women’s hair takes a wee bit longer to cut), so call and make an appointment if you don’t want to wait.

Annie gives great cuts! I get a fade from a 0 to a finger length so I have had many bad cuts in life. She is perfect and gets it nice and close. Good personality too. I have received compliments from customers at my work on my haircut from stylists from other salons. But it could be my smile… Jk

Ive been bringing my 2 boys(8 and 11) here for 2 years and we always leave satisfied. The barbers are all very nice, professional and good at what they do. We never have to make an appointment and have never waited for more than 15 minutes. Children’s cuts are $ 12, very reasonable. I started by asking for a boy cut with tapered bangs because wherever we went before their bangs would be cut straight across their forehead, even if I specified I didn’t want that. I recommend this shop for boys and men.

I’ve been going here every week for my military haircut for over two years; I highly recommend this place for friends and family! Pros: + Great service! + Paul, Tracy and team are super friendly. + $ 12 tax included! + Reservations possible. + Kid-friendly. + Clean, air conditioned, big-screen TV(often on a sports channel). Cons: — Cash only. — It’s often busy(especially on weekends). — Parking is on the street(also often busy). I agree with some of the other reviewers where more detailed, very clear instructions may be required if you have never gone to this place before… but that may be applicable to all places. I found after the first few times(I go weekly mind you), that I can walk in and get a great haircut from any one of the barbers.

Paul is the man! I have been coming here for the last 3 years, ever since I had to have my fade fixed(messed up by someone else). Paul took his time and hooked it up. Now I won’t go anywhere else. Paul and his wife are so friendly, it’s always nice to be there. Because they are good, it can get a little busy. So plan ahead or plan to wait. Support local family business! And get a smooth cut.

The price you pay is what you get. Do not recommend this place at all. Edit: This is for clarity. I read all the reviews, and was kind of stoked to come here. However, the lady in the middle chair is TERRIBLE. I asked for a fade and she said okay. After 15 minutes, her ‘fade’ was done and my hair was wrecked. She basically just took the buzzer and buzzed my head in all different directions, left my hair uneven, didn’t touch the front, didn’t actually blend my sideburns, and a ton of other stuff. DONOTGOTOHER. Maybe Paul and the other lady are good, but I will never know. I will not step back in this place. If they hired this lady and think she is competent, I have no desire to go to them either.

Been getting my hair cut here for a year and a half or so. First saw that it’s right up the road from where I live, great reviews, and the price is right(!). I have been to a couple of the women(sorry, don’t remember their names) but I see Paul all the time. Every person I had did a good job but I just like Paul. He always does a great job, does exactly what I ask him to do and not to do. When I first started going I had a simple faded sides, short hair on top so nothing special. Then about a year ago I started growing out my hair and I always feared he would go back and cut it all off after all the hard work, lol. But, he did everything I asked and kept the hair neat and even as I grew it longer and longer. After just a couple visits he remembered my name and everyone in the shop greets you when you come in the door and says bye as you leave. Nice touch for sure. I highly recommend you make an appointment as the wait can be long if you just walk in — especially on Saturday’s. Cash only so don’t forget to bring a $ 20 which covers cut and a nice tip. Also there’s only a small sink in there so don’t show up with gel or other product in your hair. Parking is along the street which can be busy so I make it a point to go into the neighborhood and I easily find parking.

My husband has been getting his hair cut by Paul for years. Paul is always so friendly & cuts my husbands hair exactly how he likes it. There is usually a wait so if you prefer for Paul to cut your hair just call ahead & make an appointment. Very reasonable prices. Will keep coming here for sure. Thanks for the great work Paul.

Don’t forget to bring cash! Haven’t had a haircut since last year and my hair has grown so much that it was time for a much needed split end control! Asked for Kathy as all the reviews point to her or Paul. Since they’re both owners of the Salon it makes sense to have one of them cut my hair. I’m pretty particular with my hair and most stylist get cut happy when they see long hair I make sure to tell them I only want a trim and not chopped off! Kathy listened and so I decided to trust her and even asked for a little different cut by asking for side bangs! I haven’t had bangs since college! I highly recommend Kathy! For my hair cut and shampoo it came to $ 27! Now bad deal at all and I gave her a $ 6 tip! I definitely plan on coming back here to get my hair cut again now that I have found someone I can trust with my hair in Hawaii! They have a lot of walk ins. I called for an appointment but while sitting there about 5 people walked in! They’re known as a barber shop but I would definitely come back here again!

This review is not a reflection of Paul and his wife. Don’t make the same mistake I did, make an appointment and avoid the walk in lady. Rushed the haircut, doesn’t seem to understand basic hair cutting terminology and cuts unevenly.

Old school in an awesome way! Men’s cuts $ 12, and straight razor shaves! Paul’s better watch out for a wave of budding hipsters headed his way.

You can find here what is very hard to find anywhere else… a barber who does exactly what you say. Even with a communication barrier, Annie(middle chair) does just what you ask. And for the price point… it’s worth the drive, no matter where you live on the island.

Great hair cuts and at a decent price $ 12. Depending on what time you go their can be a small wait, but I have never had to wait for more than 15 minutes. Additionally You can also make an appointment if you like.

Pauls been cutting my hair for over 15 years. His price and quality are unmatched. His crew and wife are also great. I recently asked him how his children are and to my surprise they seem to have grown up and left the nest. Wow how time flys. However Paul keeps a full house. Call for appointment unless you don’t mind waiting for an open chair.

Went here based on pos reviews. Paul was nice and patient. He was careful and took his time. However, he seems overly reliant upon clipper guards, for one thing. For another, he did not taper the sideburns which –to me– leaves the haircut incomplete. My regular barber is quick and deft with the clippers(unlike Paul), uses guards minimally, and uses a straight razor on the neckline, sideburns, and forward sides at the hairline for a super clean/symmetrical look: $ 14. He tapers the sideburns even though they are short. This barber is not currently in Honolulu. Sam @ Thom’s is very skilled but he rushes too much and does not pay attention to details as much as he could… but if you need a haircut in under 10 mins, he is the man. Still looking for a good barber in Honolulu.
