Linh’s Alterations

I have gone to Linh’s 3 times in the last 2 months all for alterations on dress pants. In reading others reviews I think you might agree the individuals writing them are pretty arrogant themselves to be so entitled. I have dealt with Linh on all of my visits and she and her staff have always been beyond kind and attentive. When I picked up my dress pants today and tried them on the alterations were not to my satisfaction and I let Linh know that I wanted to have them adjusted again. She had them all fixed and ready within a few hours. Now I didn’t bring in an expensive lace dress but I did bring in designer dress pants and am more than satisfied with the work that was done. Thank you Linh and your hardworking staff!

Great business and customer service.
After getting f***ked over by another place that didn’t even work on my dress I am going to wear at my graduation Saturday morning. It has been almost a week since I first dropped the dress off!
But Linh save the day for me! They were so professional, so compassionate and so helpful. They offer me cold water, gave me a fantastic pen that can be used on ipad or iphone touch screen and she even spared me the extra work that didn’t need to be done on my dress to save me money. I knew I would pay rush work fee but that is okay because I am lucky enough that she accepted to work on my dress last minute. I am not going anywhere else when I need alterations in the future. Thank you, Linh!

Did a good job sewing patches on my son’s jacket. Wasn’t expensive, didn’t take a week. My son is/​was ecstatic!

When we recently sold our home, we donated a lot of clothes, accessories, household items, and furniture. One of the items that I donated which I sort of regret doing was my «beloved» Husqvarna sewing machine that I owned and used since the 70’s. I grew up sewing so I was always «handy» with performing my own clothing alterations (mainly because I’m short) or repairs. Oh, I have missed my sewing machine! But, my recent experience has distracted me from the loss.
I recently purchased a new pair of denim jeans which has a good fit but unfortunately was unavailable in petite length. I checked my handy Unilocal app for a seamstress in my neighborhood and found Linh’s. I called to see if I needed an appointment to bring my jeans in and was told that I could just come in. I also asked what the charge would be for hemming and how long the turn around would be. Yay! The price is $ 12 and turn around time is usually 4 – 5 days.
Easy-Peasy…I brought my jeans in while wearing the footwear that I’d normally wear with these pants. Linh was with a client being fitted for a beautiful sun dress. She directed me to one of the dressing rooms and to step up on a stand once dressed. I waited a scant minute while the other client stepped off her stand to her dressing room and Linh came to measure and mark the length that I desired. I changed, paid ($ 12) for the alteration, was given a receipt and told that my garment would be ready within 4 – 5 days. I wasn’t in a rush, so, that turn around time worked for me. As I was leaving, her husband (?) gave me a chilled bottle of water which I gladly took because we’ve had very warm and humid days.
I picked up my jeans and noticed that Linh had matched the thread color to the rest of of the jeans. The stitching is even and the NEW length is perfect! I’ll be coming back to Linh for my future alterations… her workmanship is top notch, service is friendly and prices are fair.

I had two dresses I needed altered, one for an award ceremony and another for a wedding. The first I needed taken in and the second I needed hemmed. A few years ago I went to a lady out in Kailua but I wanted to find a shop closer to town so I found this shop based on the Unilocal reviews and the reviews were accurate, this is a great shop for alterations!
I made an appointment online at their website (
) and arrived at my scheduled time. I was on a moped so I just parked on the sidewalk, there is also a gas station right nearby you can maybe get away with parking at though the signs say it is for a restaurant next door. Otherwise you’re left to street parking. When I arrived the person working was busy with someone else and told me to wait for like 5 minutes. They gave me a bottle of water while I waited which I appreciated. More people came in the shop and were picking up or dropping things off and I was a little irritated that my appointment time wasn’t being honored and I was on a bit of a tight schedule, I was worried that all these other customers were going to make my wait much longer than 5 minutes. However, after about 6 or 7 minutes of waiting, another person working at the shop came out and said she would start until Linh was free, I really appreciated this, as I originally thought that it was maybe just one person working there. It turned out there were actually 3 or 4.
I was able to change in a dressing room (with AC!) and they got right to work pinning things. It turned out the dress I needed hemmed was cut very unevenly so they made sure to pin it so it would be even. When I had the other dress on that needed to be taken in, Linh did the pinning and it felt good then she put in a couple more pins and magically it was even better, so she really knows her stuff and what will make the dress look the best! The total amount of time for my appointment was about 45 minutes for two dresses, including the wait.
The hemming was $ 45 and taking the dress in was also $ 45. However I got a 10% off discount as a first time customer. I thought the price was reasonable. 10 days later both dresses were available, I was able to try them on and they were both perfect! She even added a little elastic I think in the back of the dress I needed taken in, to give me a little breathing space. The one that was cut unevenly was perfectly even. I also got a punch card so I will be going back there for my alteration needs. My husband is a groomsman in a wedding coming up so he’ll be able to go there which is great that they do both men’s and women’s clothing.
Other perks: They have a fish tank and a TV they turned on to keep you entertained while standing there getting pinned or waiting for the appointment.
Overall I’m very happy with their service and their work. I only have pictures of one dress, but it turned out beautifully!

Linh’s is THE place to go for alterations. I have to have my pants hemmed all the time and they have never let me down.
They are affordable, precise, and kind. Went to a couple other places and will never again! Linh’s is leaps and bounds better than any other alterations business that I’ve tried in Honolulu.

In a few words, she missed up my designer lace dress from Cynthia Rowley. I took it in to have the bodice shortened. The design had a slightly raised collar that, when worn, would lay flat along the curve of the neck. Also, the v-​neck was outlined with a continuous strip of bias, but when I got my dress back today, rather than unpicking the bias and then resewing it back, Linh had taken the short cut and now there are two seams along the collar bias, which totally goes against the original design. On top of that, the collar at the back is no longer flush against the neck but is bulked up in places. She offered to fix it but her suggestions took my dress further and further away from what it looked like originally.
I brought in 5 pieces and while Linh’s can handle easy jobs like taking up a hem or taking in a waist, they simply can’t handle fine work. Even so, I had a mishap with a simple beach dress and in altering the shoulders, one armhole ended up bigger than the other.
There is no finesse in the way they work. Linh herself is arrogant. When I called up to make my appointment, I said I had 5 pieces for alterations. She gave me only half an hour of time and then passed me on to her sister, who was her assistant, on grounds that she had to go to a doctor. But Linh was clearly there as her assistant ran back to the workspace to consult her; what reason was there to lie to a customer?
Just because she is the seamstress on call for a number of companies doesn’t make Linh’s good and as mentioned, she is arrogant, and without cause. I have worked with other European seamstresses, who have demonstrated finesse and deep understanding of the art of sewing. This to me is a chop shop. Don’t bring your expensive clothing there.

Linh is amazing. She was able to alter my wedding dress the way I wanted by adding sleeves, recommended to do a keyhole back instead of full zipper, and added a loop and hook for a bustle. Also altered my fiances suit and dress shirt. All this in a 2 week time frame and fit like perfection the day we picked it up. She really takes her time to ensure a great fit and makes sure you are okay before leaving her shop. Also so considerate as well, she gives you a bottle water before you leave. Highly recommend for her service, and her skills to alter the clothing to your liking and the best fit for your body.

Linh’s is AWESOME! I scored a solid deal on a suit for my wedding… only problem I bought it 6 months before the wedding and lost alot of weight! Planning a wedding was stressful enough but finding somewhere to alter my suit turned out to be very stressful. After searching for a good place I was recommended to try Linh’s by a friend. I called to make an appointment and what do you know? Just walk in! The staff was very professional and courteous and made me feel like an appreciated customer with a cold bottle of water. I’m a shorts and t shirt kind of guy so wearing a suit was very intimidating. After a wait of 5 mins. It was time for Linh to work her magic! It took her about 10 mins of pinning etc. and she had the dress shirt, pants, and jacket done! I could see that she was very skilled and would do a great job so I was fine with her cutting into $ 700 worth of clothes that I couldn’t replace a month before the wedding. The total for all the alterations was $ 100 which I thought was reasonable. Besides you get for what you pay for! If you have no idea about clothes or fashion Linh will get you styling and looking sharp for sure. 1 week later I went to pick up my suit. Senator Brian Schatz was in there picking up his stuff also. I thought ok I made a good call! Try on the suit, fits perfect, Linh gives the thumbs up and I’m out! If you want your alterations done the right way come here!

Thanks to the Unilocal reviews, I decided to book an appointment for a free dress consultation because I wanted a dress altered for a ball I was attending in February. Although, the alterations place shares space with a pawn shop, it was pleasantly nice and clean in there.
On the day of my appointment, I was greeted by Linh, a sweet, personable, and knowledgable lady. I went in and she asked me to try on my dress and I told her what I wanted done, which was to take the slit up higher on my dress. With my dress on, I showed her how high I wanted the slit taken up and also asked her about these two extra straps that were on my dress that I had no idea what were about. She then proceeded to show me how I’d wear those extra straps, which actually made the dress look better.
After my fitting, she quoted that the alteration of taking up the slit would cost me $ 15 + tax. Mind you, it wasn’t one of those alterations I could have easily done at home especially with the stitch work, so I thought the price was reasonable. I agreed to proceed with the alteration.
Five days after my dress consultation, I came back to pick up my dress. Initially, I dropped my dress off on just a hanger I found at home, but when I arrived to pick up my dress, I was presented with my dress on a hanger in a plastic dress bag. It’s those little details. It was nice.
I decided to try my dress on again while I was still there and as I was taking it out of the dress bag, I noticed she also fixed this minor wear and tear on my dress that I was gonna have my mom fix if needed to avoid the extra costs, but Linh went above and beyond to fix it herself, so I thought that was a kind gesture and just exceptional service.
So if it’s not obvious right now, I would definitely be back for my alteration needs and I also recommend others to see Linh for their alteration needs.

Always the most pleasant interactions and impeccably professional alterations!!! Used to go with my mom when I was little and now get to be a customer myself. There’s a reason Linh’s has been around for so long!

Read all the reviews on here and had problem walking in there to get a few pairs of jeans and my wedding dress altered. I trust the Unilocalers and you all were NOT WRONG! Linh and her worker were so very nice and had me fitted, hemmed and gave me an estimate in no time. I trust her and the work on the jeans with an original hem was perfect. I return for a fitting for my wedding dress a month before the wedding and I am confident she will do a good job. I will KEEP returning to Linh’s for any tailoring.

I heard such a great review on this place, so I decided to check it out last year.
Last year I had to go to my boyfriend’s senior prom, and I honestly did not know that I had to make an appointment with Linh before walking in (since it was my first time there), but she was nice enough to squeeze me in her schedule and take my measurements even when she was about to close. Since it was my first time getting an dress altered she noticed and said I could take a break after standing up for a while. After she took me measurement she told me that it would be ready in a week.
A week later I came back to try on my dress, I couldn’t been anymore happier than I already was because it was now the perfect dress, the hem made it look like it had never changed, it was beautiful.
My boyfriend’s mom noticed a flaw that was made the on the dress, she pointed it out. Linh came in and explained to her that it probably happened while she turned it inside out when hemming and it probably got caught to one of the beads, although she said it’s not really noticeable the mom wasn’t too happy about it.
I was actually fine with the full priced i paid since all her effort was put into this dress, but since the mom made a big fuss about it she offered to pay me back half the amount on what I originally paid for the alternation. Of course the mom took advantage of this and took the money when I told her it’s okay.
But thanks you Linh, for altering my dress, you may see me again when I have to alter another dress.

It’s been almost 2 weeks since my wedding and needed ample time to write a proper review for Linh’s alterations because I still cannot thank her enough.
I had a horrendous experience at RK Bridal (you can read my review on their page) where I needed my dress re-​altered a week prior to my wedding day (a bride’s worst nightmare)!
Linh was GOD SEND. She pointed out mistakes they made and told me she can rush it for me. I never had that «dress moment» until the day I picked up my dress from Linh. My best friend started crying then I started crying and Linh started tearing too! It was such a sweet moment. I was SO UNBELIEVABLY thankful for her. She fixed it and took a dress I despised and made it something I was proud to wear on my wedding day. And she told me if it wasn’t perfect that she would work all night to have it ready for my wedding day! If that’s not great service, I don’t know what is.

We went here to alter my hubbys work slacks, which needed to be shortened a bit. This is the first time we’ve gone to an alterations store & despite the price, I was pleasantly surprised w/​how good of a job the guy did. Usually, we purchase the slacks from Macys or Nordstrom & just get the free alterations there. However, bc the quality is a gamble when doing so, we decided to pony up the extra money & have them done in a separate locale instead.
Just a little tidbit, what everyone says about the lack of parking is 100% true. Essentially, there is none. Linh’s is a tiny, hole in the wall place located on the side of Keeaumoku (across from Itchy Butt eatery) as you head towards Makiki. If you’ve ever been in that area, you’ll know that street parking is non-​existent. We ended up parking at another location & did a short walk from there. Also, the place is a Pawn Shop as well so don’t be fooled by how sketchy it may look from the outside — the interior is actually quite nice & comfy w/​seats, a large tv, and a beautiful giant fish tank.
The young lady that helped us was very friendly, and after a quick change in the private changing room, she took the needed measurements & pinned the slacks extremely quickly. We were in and out in less than 10! Picking up was super simple as well, as we had our order retrieved immediately. Although they did ask my hubby if he wanted to try on the slacks to check the length, we opted not to & decided to wait till we got home. The stitching itself was excellent, the perfect length, & after several times in the washer/​dryer since then is still holding strong. In contrast, the freebies at the department stores began un-​stiching after a month or so =(

I am vertically challenged and I had spent quite a bit of money on some beautiful maxi dresses and a pair of pants. My mom (bless her heart) was kind enough to hem the pants for me, but she would not touch the maxis and the waistline of the pants for fear that she might irreparably damage them. She insisted I take them to a professional.
Back in high school, I used to take my prom dresses to Angel Tailor but that was nearly a decade ago (insert sweaty, nervous laughing emoji here) and according to you always-​helpful Unilocalers, the quality of alterations at Angel Tailor has declined. Womp womp.
I used to work at Bebe ages ago and, luckily, I remembered that we used to send all of our clients’ purchases to Linh’s for free alterations if you were part of Club Bebe (great tip for frequent Bebe shoppers, btw. lots of perks, plus sign-​up and membership is free!). We never had a complaint and the Unilocal reviews for Linh’s were all great.
Their website recommends calling or emailing to make an appointment so that’s what I did. If you are last-​minute or impatient like me, just go ahead and call. They’re super friendly and accommodating and I was able to schedule an appointment that afternoon after work.
Got to Linh’s. Super clean and well lit — I was admittedly expecting the worst when I realized the place doubles as a pawn shop. Everyone there was super friendly.
I was there for quite some time as Linh herself painstakingly pinned up the hem of my dresses and offered suggestions for other alterations that I didn’t even consider (e.g., replacing the elastic at the waist of two of my dresses because they weren’t sitting correctly at my natural waist, evening out an asymmetrical hemline, etc.) Linh also talked me through the different ways that she could bring in the waist of my pants, since the zipper was on the side and there were (decorative, non-​functional) buttons on either side of the waist. It would have been more expensive had she needed to move the zipper, but she was able to save me money and you would never guess that they’d been altered.
Please note that you have to stand up straight and remain still for the entire time so that she can ensure an even hem (not an easy feat for me, personally). The dresses I brought in had quite a bit of fabric so I was standing there for kind of a long time. Combined with the bright lights and the illness from which I was recovering, I got lightheaded with only one more dress to go. Linh and her daughter (?) were so, so sweet. They brought me water and chocolate and let me sit until I was ready to resume the pinning process. I was super embarrassed but they were SO nice about it.
I paid before leaving. They accept credit cards and now accept ApplePay! I assume they also take cash but don’t quote me. The prices are reasonable. I paid $ 40 per dress, an extra $ 10 charge for my dress with a lining, and $ 35 to bring in the waist of my pants.
I was scheduled to retrieve my items in ten days but they called me to ask if it would be possible to push my pick-​up date back a day or two. Totally fine by me but it was clear that if I had needed the clothes right away, they were prepared to have them ready.
I will be back and absolutely recommend.

How can you not like a place that is both a pawn shop and an alterations shop? Or a place that plays Yanni live in concert, or Celine Dion live in concert on a large flat screen TV? If those things don’t sell you on this place, maybe the following will:
–Linh’s is clean and well lit.
–They are very friendly.
–They do good work. I’ve brought several pairs of jeans and slacks here. I’ve been going here since Sears closed and I’ve been very pleased.
–They take credit cards.
–As you are checking out, they offer you a cold bottle of water.
Parking is not great but you can quickly park at the Chevron on Keeaumoku/​Beretania, or street park on Kinau.

Another reason why Unilocal works. I had been looking to get some alterations for my work slacks and since I didn’t get them from Nordstrom’s, I had to get them altered on my own (your welcome Nordies for that plug).
So of course what do I do? I open up Unilocal and type in alterations in my area. Of course the first one that catches my eye is a highly rated Linh’s. The plus side is that I saw a few of my own personal friends had already used them as well. So I got on the phone and asked them what they thought and that was enough for me to try this place out. Parking is probably their only downfall but if you are just going to be in and out of Linh’s just park at the next door Chevron. My pants was ready in about 3 days and it was exactly what I expected and needed. What more could you ask for? Oh and I hear that he was also quite the tennis player back in the day. You can actually see a few of the trophies in the store.
On a side note, they are also what looks to be pawn shop so if you want to get your pants altered and sell some of your bling you can probably do that there too. :p
