I loved the smoothies and healthy bowls… But I see the downtown location is no longer there. I’m so sad to see it gone :(

You know what? Props to this place for offering another vegetarian lunch restaurant option in Honolulu. Oahu is so unsophisticated in that respect(lack of vegetarian options). What’s great about this place is you can choose a reasonably priced lunch entrée, add a kale salad with a delicious dressing(I like the ginger tahini) for $ 2, then add a sweet tweet or king green for $ 3. They could expand their menu. And cut down on their wait time(this is downtown after all) while ramping up customer service. But I’m grateful they are here and hope they stay around longer.

I’ve tried the Surfer Bowl, Protein Bowl, and the Yoga Bowl. All the bowls are really delicious but on the smaller side. Make sure you double check your order though. As I get hungry pretty often, decided to do the Protein Bowl which is the Surfer Bowl + chia seeds and tofu. Boy was I disappointed… they forgot the almonds and I only had ½ of a cherry tomato in mine. My friend also ordered the same thing with me and got no almonds but she got 1 cherry tomato… hmmm, is that a score for her LOL?! They definitely need to work on the quality control. Maybe premixing the salad is not a good idea? As for the drinks, I haven’t tried any of the smoothies but I know it’s popular. I did try the handcrafted kombucha but was disappointed with it as they made it from POG juice… yup processed juice filled with lots of sugars. I had expected a heath store to be making it from real fruit juices. So that’s why I stick to the bowls… and only if I’m not having a super hungry day. Overall, I will still support this place as we definitely need more healthy places in Downtown!

Finally, someplace that serves kale and other seemingly healthy lunch options in Downtown Honolulu! Kale and Avocado Tacos — The tacos are the size of street tacos, and each order comes with two. It’s loaded with chopped kale, avocados, and tomatoes, and it all comes together nicely with the black bean spread on warm naan. It may not seem like a lot of food, but it’s actually quite filling with all of that naan. The kale tacos are also delicious with the balsamic dressing as well. I’ve tried the Surfer Bowl, Yoga Bowl, and the Baja Bowl special, and I have to say that the Baja Bowl is my favorite by far. I prefer the bowls without rice since I’m not much of a rice eater, and I find it to be a very satisfying sized portion that’s perfect for lunch. I love that the kale is chopped into small bits, so it’s easy to eat and picks up the dressing well. My only complaint is the lack of consistency — the amount of avocado and dressing in the bowls varies all the time, depending on who is in the kitchen. Is it all healthy? Well, after all of that rich sauce and dressing, it could be a kale calorie bomb, but I try not to think about it. As for the smoothies — I’m anti-banana and anti-papaya, so I’ve limited my smoothie option down to the Sweet Tweet, which looks and tastes like whipped grass. However, Leahi also offers pitaya(red dragon fruit) for their smoothies! They don’t have it on their menu quite yet, but go ahead and ask about it and they’ll make a special pitaya smoothie for you. Extremely friendly and helpful service, and they have a little point card reward system– purchase nine(?) drinks and your tenth is free.

I searched all over for this place last week and couldn’t find it(I am terrible with directions and get lost in grocery stores). Feeling ambitious I began my hunt again with great success! The trick is it’s downstairs ;) and boy oh boy am I happy! I got the ala moana bowl and my life is now complete!

HOLYPITAYA! My quest to find delicious and affordable pitaya has finally come to fruition at Leahi Health Beverages! I already loved Leahi for their vast menu of fresh and healthy smoothies and vegetable-packed bowls, but their addition of pitaya to the menu has me head over heels in love! As my friend and I were eating our Baja and Surfer Bowls in the courtyard of the Remington Building, I saw many patrons walking away with bright purple/pink smoothies in tow. I scanned the menu and could not figure out what concoction it could be! I finally asked a friendly employee and she told me that Leahi Health Beverages is now adding pitaya to their already long list of smoothies and acai bowls! Since it isn’t on the menu yet, she informed me that they have been playing around with different ingredients like apple juice and banana. I agreed to try their crowd-favorite pitaya recipe and added coconut for an extra $ 1. At $ 5 for a small pitaya smoothie(compared to $ 6 at Vitajuice), I am a happy, pitaya-sippin’, girl! They also offer a FiveStars loyalty card that rewards you with 1 free smoothie after you purchase 9! It’s a bit of a hassle to verify online, but once you have it, it is totally worth it!

Oh I soooooooo wanted to really really really give this place 5 stars! The concept is great! And today, I tried the Baja Bowl and I have to say the taste was delicious! So why the three stars?! Okay, here’s the thing. If you’re going to tout something as all natural ingredients, fresh, organic, healthy, etc… then that’s kind of what you expect and I don’t mind paying prices that are higher and for smaller portions. But then when I see them using Costco stuff, like Kirkland brand bread, and honey, and whatever else, it’s just a bit disappointing and I feel sort cheated. And then they have a grilled cheese sandwich, it’s a pesto grilled cheese… but it’s $ 7 for a grilled cheese sandwich. You’d expect a little more… um, if you’re charging that much for a sandwich, add a side green salad, or a pickle at least, and use organic bread for crying out loud. And if you’re not going to use good bread, don’t let us see you pull the bread out of a regular bread bag. It’s just not good practice — and if you’re going to pull bread out of a bag that I too can get at Costco for $ 5 for a whole loaf, why would I feel justified paying you $ 7 dollars for two slices, and then to slather pesto on it and put some lettuce and cheese? Right? Perhaps make the sandwich in the back where we can’t see you pulling the bread out of a regular bread bag? Maybe a few kinks to work out. Again, the concept is there. The taste is there too. And for someone like myself who does often look for healthy options, it’s promising… I’m hopeful, this place lasts… but knowing the downtown crowd, if prices remain for the quality being offered now, I’m not sure this place will survive in downtown Honolulu.

Tried the yoga bowl today it was delicious! I’m watching my carbs and this fit in perfectly! Kale, cucumber, carrots, goji berries, feta cheese, walnuts, cranberries and the dressing was really good! They really fill up bowl with lots of stuff, it was a good deal. I’ll be here again and plan to try more things. There were 2 employees and they were quite busy but really friendly. When more people hear of this place they might need to bring in a 3rd to keep up with customers. Great healthy lunch I will be back!

This is the second location for Leahi Health Beverages. Terrific place for smoothies, bowls, kombucha, and other healthy snacks. Super friendly staff! Located downtown at the base of the Remington College building.

When I heard that Leahi Health Beverages served paleo friendly smoothies I was ON this place! Dairy free, local farmed fruit smoothies are my jam!!! I couldn’t check in because well they aren’t even legit on Unilocal yet. Well at least for this location. Today I had the Poi Dog smoothie with kombucha, taro, and a bunch if other yummy healthy delicious ingredients. It’s not overly sweet and at $ 5 for a small it was the perfect after lunch treat! I can’t wait to go back. They have a bunch of lunch items and an acai bowl that I’m getting the next time I pay them a visit. OMG they also have paleo muffins! PALEOMUFFINS!!! I’m so happy for any healthy option in downtown but one that’s paleo friendly is like a gift from heaven. The businesses in this particular spot haven’t been successful in the past so I really really hope they make it. Don’t know the area? It’s in the Remington building downstairs in the food court next to Dim Sum House. Keep Calm and Smoothie On.
