History
Established in 1957.
Kahala Mall has evolved dramatically from when it first opened in 1957as Waialae Shopping Center, which was anchored by Piggly Wiggly market and Liberty House. When JC Penney arrived on the scene in 1970, the retail shops became an enclosed Mall, and the primary shopping destination for East Honolulu residents. Kahala Mall’s theatre wing was created when JC Penney moved out of the Mall in the 1980s.
