In the heart of McCully Shopping Center, Ireh Restaurant sure does fit in! Again, parking is limited during peek times, but people come and go so their easy to find. Walking inside the restaurant, I felt a very cozy, home feeling. I’m not sure if it was the décor or because they had Korean drama playing on the wall. But it felt comfy. The workers were nice korean ladies who spoke english as their second language based on the way they spoke. Their menu is cute and full of Korean food items to choose from. The items were a little pricey but the quantity and quality made up for it. My boyfriend and I tried their Fried Mandoo, Bulgogi, and Soondubu Jigae(Tofu Soup). Of course they provided us with banchan(korean side dishes) and I have to say, their kimchee is so yummy, and it’s unlimited! Let’s just put it this way, Yummy’s Mandoo has nothing on Ireh’s Mandoo. Their Tofu Soup was big portioned and so so yummy. We would come back again I think for their Mandoo.

«He changes his mind like he changes his shoes.» Did I say he? What I meant to say was«she»? I was talking about me! I wasn’t so sure about trying this place because Korean food has been a hit or miss in the past. My companion had thought the same thing. However I, on the other hand had it on my bookmark among many places to try. I had contemplated if it was worth it. Thank goodness Victoria A decided on a get together and we finally pulled the trigger. There are two locations for Ireh. This location is on McCully shopping center, a unit or two from Regal Bakery. This is a family style restaurant. If you’re wanting a quiet romantic dinner with your girlfriend, this is not the place to go. Ireh is a happening place where everyone laughs and knows how to have fun during dinner. It’s how it should be! Customer service is not too shabby! If you’re going with a big party, call in and make reservations(thanks Victoria A!). This is a sit at your table, order your food and pay at the window kind of spot. Very simple! There was only one thing on my mind before coming here. Simply Mandoo. I didn’t care whether it was crispy or steamed. My stomach wanted to devour every carb and meat it had from the inside out. Thanks for ordering the Mandoo Jerrae and Christa! The Goon Mandu, is pan fried($ 12.95) for a dish of 8 and are pretty decent in size. They were tasty and delicious! Not so sure that this dish would make me full if it were the only thing I had since it didn’t come with a side of rice(yes, because it’s an appetizer). Their Mui Mandoo is the boiled version which tasted just as good at the same cost. I am thankful for Unilocal friends that love to eat. We ordered a vast array of things from the menu. I decided on the basic Garlic Chicken($ 12.95), but wasn’t so basic. It is fried chicken with garlic and it was muy crispy with lots of other seasonings accompanying every bite(Brilliant! Comes with a cup of rice!), I could barely finish this dish probably because I’ve had a bite or two from everyone of their own main dishes. One unforgettable dish is the Korean Chicken($ 12.95) Aggie ordered. What have you done to me! One piece is enough to get you hooked! This is a rich and sinfully flavorful dish. Another rich dish of the night was the rice cake with cheese. My stomach was nearing towards it’s full capacity when this dish arrived. I was able to handle one full piece of this and it was enough. If you’re wanting to try many dishes at one time but can’t consume much, bringing a large party is the way to do it(call to reserve). Sharing is caring! BYOB and dine in style with your buddies! I’m looking forward to trying many of their other dishes.

Worst dining experience in Honolulu to date. We came here after hearing about the food, and came with high expectations. If you read no further, please take my advice, and go elsewhere. There are plenty of other options even within this shopping plaza. This was a waste of 2 hours of a Friday night. Anyway — The waiter seated us, and took our orders of several appetizers and 4 entrees. After an eternity, the appetizers finally came out. After about another hour, our waiter comes back to our table and asks ‘are you ready to order yet?’ This is the same waiter who originally took out order and also brought out the appetizers. At this point, frustrated, we stated that we had been waiting on our food. To which the waiter responds that ‘I thought that’s all you were ordering’. First of all, inconsistency between ‘ready to order yet?’ and ‘I thought that’s all you were ordering?’… And secondly, there was no hint of an apology or acknowledgement of having made a mistake. The whole time we’re having this issue with the food being late, we see another group of four come in, and they obviously know the workers here. They get seated, served, pay, and leave, all while we are sitting there waiting. Horrible service. This is to be blamed upon the server, and the management as a whole. Not to be recommended.

Ray’s diner was on our Bookmark and there was so much interest in gong there due to Paul’s most recent UYE hosting and because it’s Antonet’s old Kalihi stomping grounds. However they sold out and closed early. We knew Ireh was on the Hot and New list so we decided to give it a try. Ireh is a solid 4 stars bordering on a 5. It could become that by: Allowing side orders Featuring a combo plate. Dar says it’s like that so you come back to try new stuff. Sell, don’t only display alcohol. And, maybe offer soup and shike. Located in the McCully shopping center, parking can be found but most easiest underground. It’s right next to Coco Curry! When you walk in its bright white lights and a pastel color. Don’t remember if it as yellow or green or both. It felt weird. The food was fabulous. Their white rice was hot soft and delicious. The Kim chi was incredible. Although a little in amount mighty in taste. The beef vegetable soup had substance. I put in on my rice and all you could hear was the tap tap tap on my chopsticks scooping it all up into my face. Slurp slurp! Yes, even on the second bowl. Darcie and Antonet had spicy chicken and pork, respectively. It was spicy for me and Anto but too spicy for Darcie. Maddy had Tonkatsu and she mopped it up. The breading and the pork itself was thin. All in all it was pretty cheap and we’ll come again.

Ireh is becoming one of my favorite Korean restaurants. Their McCully location has a wider variety of dishes compared to the one on Keeaumoku.
Ireh is a busy little restaurant and I feel it might be too busy for the staff as food came out slow. Service was slow too but they were very friendly and prompt when asked for things! We ordered the Spicy Korean Chicken with Kimchee, Beef and Vegetable Soup, and Dubboki with the chewy noodles. The waitress warned us of the chicken’s spice and asked if we want to reconsider as other guests have sent it back before. We just told her to bring it on! Dubboki is one of my favorite things because I love all things mochi. It comes served with a spicy red sauce and the chewy noodles was cooked perfectly. Beef and Veggie soup is one of my newest favorites since trying it in Korea. Shredded beef with mushrooms, green onions and rice noodles in a spicy broth. It is served with rice. So good and comforting! Ok, now on to the chicken! It is deep fried with a thick red kimchee paste on top over a bed of rice. The sauce has a subtle peppery taste but spice was doable. I couldn’t tell if one dish was spicier than the next because my taste buds were burnt lol. Delicious food and reasonable priced! Service is fine if you’re not in a rush. Will definitely be back! PS: don’t be expecting extravagant banchans. Just kimchee, pickled onions, and beansprouts.

After seeing so many people check in here then driving by and seeing a line of people waiting to eat here after the gym last night, we decided to check them out. Another bookmarked spot crossed off the list. We decided to have lunch here because we didn’t want to deal with the parking at McCully Shopping Center in the evening and the crowd of people waiting to dine here. It was a good call since we found parking immediately and only had to wait about 5 minutes to be seated. When you enter this restaurant, you notice it’s cozy but welcoming. There are about 10 tables in here fitting parties of 4 or 2 and some counter seating along one of the walls. The staff of Korean ladies all greet you with smiles and rush to make sure you have water, utensils and a menu. One side of the menu is mainly noodle dishes and the other is main course items. It was hard to decide and we had to ask our server to give us more time twice before we could order. Once we all agreed on the items, we ordered the Bulgogi, Kimchi Jjigae, Ireh Chicken and Tteokbokki. The dishes were accompanied with rice and sides. Today our sides were bean sprouts, pickled onions with slices of jalapeño and kimchi. I personally liked all the sides and the nice Korean ladies came back to refill them after I ate everything. Bulgogi($ 14.95 as of Jan ’16) — this is marinated beef with vegetables. It was a good mix of both. The marinate gave the beef enough flavor to carry the dish as the vegetables didn’t have much taste. My friend Robert really liked this dish. I liked that the beef wasn’t dry or overcooked like some places. 4.5 out of 5. Kimchi Jjgae($ 12.95 as of Jan ’16) — this is kimchi stew with tofu inside. I liked this dish because the soup not only came out hot but with a slight kick of heat to it. Most I’ve had weren’t even the slightest spicy. A nice surprise was that it also had beef inside the soup. 4.5 out of 5 Ireh Chicken($ 13.95 as of Jan ’16) — this is their Korean style seasoned & fried chicken. It came out with shredded lettuce with dressing over. The flavor was quite good and the chicken was the perfect temperature when we bit into it. The lettuce and dressing was ok but it isn’t the star of the dish. 4.5 out of 5 stars. Tteokbokki($ 12.95 as of Jan ’16) — this is rice cake with vegetables. We added cheese and jjolmyeon to the dish. It was good and the cheese really made the dish for us. Noodles were chewy and vegetables weren’t overcooked. It still had a nice texture to it. 4.5 out of 5 stars. Great new addition to McCully Shopping Center and a tasty new spot for us to enjoy Korean food. The food is good, service is nice and parking is free. There is no excuse to not check out this hot and new restaurant. Just plan for a possible wait during the dinner rush. Enjoy!

The same, yet different. 36 Asians /4 uhhh not. Language: 50% Korean /50% English. 1. Less emphasis on «healthy» comfort foods(more meat dishes and less soups and noodles). 2. More approachable for non-Koreans(familiar dishes ie kalbi, fried chicken). 3. Smaller portions(many soups and noodles portioned for one instead of family style) 4. Some English spoken. That said, favorites from the original location are just as good. New additions, surprisingly good. Top props to the ginseng chicken in soup. The soup arrives boiling in a hotpot perfuming the air with the scent of boiled chicken and ginseng. Inside, a whole, well braised, Cornish game hen, stuffed with seasoned rice in a light, clarified chicken broth. Season to taste with the provided rock salt. The meat, falls easily from the bone. The broth has a clean finish with just the hint of ginseng flavor. Outstanding. Same great mandoo. Great balance between the outside and the chicken filling. Lightly filled(not a chicken meatball). Great boiled in one of their soups but even better pan fried crisp. So good, it doesn’t need any sauce. Same great topokki with spicy pork. Gentle sweetness(accentuated by MSG), hints of citrus, with just the right amount of fiery spice to balance the tender rice cakes. Veg, including cabbage adds a great textural contrast. Excellent and very friendly service. Some English spoken. Easily one of the top Korean restaurants on Oahu.

After seeing Ireh pop-up on Unilocal as hot & new, I had to check it out for lunch! Located at on the bottom floor of McCully Shopping Center, Ireh is a few doors down from 7-Eleven. It’s a lovely little restaurant which has wonderful energy. You know when you meet someone for the first time and you get that wonderful feeling? It’s the same thing with Ireh! We ordered a few dishes to share and I highly recommend coming here with friends. It’s so much more fun to try a bunch of different dishes and get a full overview! Here’s what we ordered: Fried chicken with garlic $ 12.95 Chewy noodle with vegetable $ 10.95 Buckwheat noodle mixed with beef & vegetable $ 12.95 Pan fried dumping /aka mandoo $ 12.95 The mandoo here is exquisite! It was my favorite of the four dishes we ate for lunch. Quality ingredients and you feel like it came from your Korean Grandma’s kitchen. I don’t have a Korean Grandma so this is the next best thing right? The fried chicken was really more like orange chicken and I’d recommend getting a nice big order of rice to eat with it. I don’t think you need to order two different noodle dishes because other than the texture of the noodles, they were both pretty similar in taste. Free banchan at the beginning of the meal and the service was awesome! Very friendly, not angry(you know what I mean), and everything came out very quickly. I’ve added Ireh to my regular round-up of lunch spots for meetings and eatings. Free parking at McCully Shopping Center!

Korean food and korean dramas… What more could you ask for? Stumbling on a Sunday morning, we decided to check this place out. After checking out their first location, we wanted to see what the difference was. Their menu does contain some items from their original location but in my opinion, I like this location’s menu much better. So many items to choose from… We ordered their mochi dumpling soup, kimchee chigae, and soondabu. Each item had a great flavor! Their kimchee chigae was spicy and their soondabu was just okay. I was shocked of how small of a portion each side was, but atleast they do free refills so don’t be afraid to ask. Prices range from $ 11 – 25 dollars per dish. It seemed little pricey considering what they give and how much of it. Probably more on the pricy side for Korean soup compared to other eateries in the area. Service was great! They were really friendly to our group. Next time, we’ll try the shave ice!

The minute you walk in you feel like you stumbled upon a warm country home in Korea. Greeting is warm and the ambiance is inviting and decorated with the owners special touches. We immediately started ordering by the picture menu. Our waiter had good suggestions and delivered excellent service. The food was exquisite, gorgeous and satisfying to not only my mouth but my soul. You can tell the owner loves to cook and the taste is more of a country delicacy. The kimchee and the spiciness is on point. The noodles is perfection and they have this topokki dish with mochi, cheese and ramen noodles that you just want to die. Our overall experience is a 5 for the awesome service, good employee engagement, and tasty fantastic food. We will be back and we will bring our friends.

It’s relatively easy when it comes to finding Korean restaurants, however it is difficult finding an outstanding place that would make you wanting to come back over and over again. Ireh in the McCully Shopping Plaza is the place. Parking is a bit tight in this shopping center but there is underground level parking found in the complex to accommodate. Upon walking in we were immediately seated. The ambiance is comfortable, bright, and warm. We had the best customer service from a lady with short hair. She had a motherly sort of figure. She kept refilling our plates with food.(rice + side dishes) and constantly check on us to see if we were okay. We arrived before dinner; right when we left the place was packed. Food: — Sides(given prior to your meal) every table has three sides: fish cake, kimchee and pickled cucumber — I couldn’t decide between japchae(another very popular Korean side dish that consists of cellophane noodles, pork, and vegetables all sautéed in soy sauce) and ddukbokki(rice cake) I was given a mix of both with pieces of bulgogi. It came out piping hot in a ceramic bowl and the pork was so succulent and sweet my body was warmed from the inside out.(+5/5) — Ireh chicken: A Sweet sesame chicken with a hint of garlic placed over a bed of cabbage topped with peanut. The chicken had a crunchy exterior and soft interior. This also came out piping hot, my friend had a trail of steam coming from his mouth when he bit into a piece of the chicken.(+4.5/5) — Spicy rice cake(ddukbokki): Pan fried rice cakes mixed with cabbage, fish cake, onions, carrots, bell peppers, topped with a whole egg. Cooked to perfection and the spice was an addicting!(+5/5) — Meat Jun: Reasonable portions for the price given! It has a comfort homemade sort of taste to it.(+5/5) — Kimchee fried rice: This was one of the best kimchee fried rice I’ve ever eaten in my entire life. Really. Served in a stone pot topped with a sunny side up egg(+5/5) We were ready to call for a check and immediately the lady placed a bowl of bingsu in front of me and told me it was on the house. She said that I can’t leave without having dessert(it was so sweet of her) The bingsu is extremely refreshing especially if you’ve had a spicy/hot meal. It’s a milky korean shaved ice topped with sweet red bean/red bean paste, almonds, fresh fruits, and bite size mochi.(+5/5) The versatile menu makes it a great place for a family meal, or a place to eat with friends. They also have take-out for those on the run. The food here is authentic and delicious. For a first time experience, this was a memorable one. I’ll be back for more. Komapsumnida!

Ireh is located in the mccully shopping center. Mccully shopping center has a fair amount of parking. There are some stalls on the top floor and some on the bottom, but the size of the stalls leaves something to be desired. Ireh is very bright and clean. For a full house, it wasn’t very noisy. Bathrooms are located outside on the second floor, you have to request a key. The food quality is very good. I really enjoyed the side dishes. We ordered the boiled dumplings(x2 — ordered one to go, 1 order comes with about 8), cold green noodle, and tofu soup. The tofu soup with seafood, so if you don’t like seafood soup you may not like this dish. I’m not sure if there’s an option to have a different type of meat. The service is very good. I actually sat in the restaurant for over 15 minutes(feeling slightly bad), and didn’t order anything because I was waiting for a friend. It was a good thing I grab the table, because it got very busy around 7 p.m. They did not rush me to order. However, the food took some time to get to our table since it was very busy. Price wise, it was about $ 53 for our total order. This does not include drinks. Will definitely visit Ireh again. I would like to try the garlic fried chicken next time.

Hm… end of the year coworker dinner adventure… started with an initial group of 3, then increased to 12. ***RESERVATIONS*** I called on a Thursday to see if it was even possible to reserve a table on a Friday night around 7pm, initially for 12 people. At first she thought by 12 I said 4, then asked her to repeat it again and corrected her. Reservation done no problem. Through word of mouth and email fwds the dinner soon increased to 16 so I called again around lunch time to see if it’s still going to work out to have 16 people for dinner — reservation still good — no problem. ***PARKING*** Knowing the parking in the McCully shopping center can be difficult in the uncovered lot portion, I opted to park in the covered garage portion down below. Nice that there is free parking, unfortunately it fills up kinda quickly ***BYOB*** A few people in the dinner party arrived before me and were quick to let me know its BYOB. Luckily, this new location is only a couple doors down from 7eleven, so my carpool party and I went to go grab some drinks before going in for dinner. I got a text message from another person in the group that had googled IREH, and was confused when I told them the 7eleven was next door. NOTE: there are 2 IREHs. The original one is near 939… and NOT in the McCully shopping center. ***INTERIOR*** This restaurant is fairly small inside and our group of 16 took up about 1⁄3 of the restaurant’s tables. Very minimalist and simple, with a tv on the wall near the register. Some tables for 2 and for 4 can be reconfigured to accommodate larger groups. They also have a couple booths along the wall. Very comfortably clean and bright interior. ***FOOD*** We eneded up splitting our group into 2 sets of tables — but 6⁄8 at my half ordered the following to share family style: *Beef Galbi *Mandu *Seafood pancake *Rice cake with cheese 3 types of soup: Sundubu, Bean paste stew & dumpling/rice cake soup. 1 dessert: Bingsu(shave ice one) This was just the perfect portion for 6 adults and one small child to feel sufficiently full. Overall I really enjoyed the flavors. The seafood pancake is a little chewier rather than crispier than I would like, but my friend that had gone to the original one said they are known more for the soups. I really liked the Sundubu here — I migrated some of the rice cake from the other soup into my sundubu… so I think if it was just me, that’s what I would order. The beef galbi was also pretty tender and not overly seasoned/salty/saucy like some places tend to do, IMO. I don’t really feel like the bingsu was satisfying for me as a dessert, however, there was a group of about 6 people that came in just for the bingsu. I tend to like a more creamy dessert… as a finish… but this was nice and light if that’s something you like for dessert. PS thanks Brandon S. for posting the menu pics! Helped a lot with recalling all the dishes we ordered… ***PAYINGTHEBILL/SERVICE*** The service overall throughout the whole process and dinner was very attentive. The workers were all helpful and patient with our questions/demands, and did not show signs of frustration with our group. They accommodated any way we wanted to split the bill — 3 people paid their individual dishes, 6 of us split it family style, I’m not sure how the rest of the group paid theirs but the restaurant was accommodating. Plus there was no upcharge like some places for having a group of more than 6! Great experience — and less than $ 25 for my family style share of the dishes listed above. I will definitely go back again!

The food is good, seafood pancake and mandoo are a bit greasy but very tasty and crispy. Soft tofu stew is very good. The service is a ok, maybe it’s too late or what but we asked for plates never got them…

Ireh has two locations now! The first is located on Keeaumoku, and now they are also located at Mccully Shopping Center next to Curry House. There is plenty of parking available either in front or downstairs in the garage. However be careful because the stalls here are pretty tight. Service is here great. Always nice staff and very attentive. The food was delish too! The Grub. [[ MULMANDOO $ 12.95 ]] This dumplings are so yummy! [[ HAEMULBUCHUJEON $ 14.95 ]] This is a more simple seafood pancake. Had nice chunks of octopus on it. [[ MANDUGUKSU $ 13.95 ]] Noodle with dumplings in soup ISDABOMB. I love the broth and noodles they use! Super good.

Ire has opened up a second location in the McCully Shopping Center!(Their original location is on Keeaumoku Street.) Parking is tight, but if you can’t find a stall on the ground level, there’s always garage parking. The décor reminded me of a lot of restaurants in Korea: bright, clean and adorned with traditional Korean trinkets. It is very distinct and welcoming. Their menu is slightly different from their original location in that they have no jook here. I found it a slightly odd that they traded their signature dish for standard Korean food, but no matter, I ordered their toppoki and bibimbap. Both were very tasty! Ireh is on the pricier side considering their portion size, ranging from $ 13 – 17. Service is always friendly, but cooking time can take a while depending on when you go. I went around lunch time on a Saturday and they were slammed. Ended up waiting around 30 minutes for pretty simple dishes. Not the same as their original spot, but very similar. Worth a visit if you’re looking for tasty Korean food in the McCully area.

This is my new favorite Korean restaurant. Just right outside of Waikiki at McCully shopping center. This is an EXTREMELYCLEAN restaurant with see through kitchen. Excellent service. Excellent food. Quality/fresh ingredients. You are paying a few dollars more here, but it is worth it for a solid meal. Dishes are $ 13-$ 15. Ireh Chicken; lightly fried with a soft outside/inside, honey tastes excellent with this chicken.(big portions) Mandoo; meaty, excellent, ask for hot sauce/chili pepper on the side.(filling) BiBimBop; fresh, tasty, excellent. Yukgaejang; excellent soup, perfection.(smaller portions) I would recommend Ireh Restaurant to anyone looking for solid Korean restaurant that is FRIENDLY, CLEAN, and uses FRESH ingredients. This is top on my list for Korean food on the island.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Ireh recently opened up a second location in McCully Shopping Center. I’m a fan of the OG Ireh on Keeaumoku, so I was eager to try out their new place. Upon scanning the menu, I could quickly see this Ireh is geared more towards a younger crowd than the OG location. There are much more meat and fried dishes at this location like their Ireh Chicken and Garlic Chicken. The Ireh Chicken is a sweet honey Korean-style fried chicken. If you like your foods on the sweeter side, you’ll love this dish. They also have Stir-Fried Garlic Shrimp that my friend ordered and raved about. You’ll find soups like Sundubu and Kim Chee Stew on the menu and some noodle dishes like Chewy Noodles, Cold Noodle with Soy Bean Broth, and Green Noodles with Vegetables. I ordered up the Green Noodles and found the dish to be medium spicy, full of flavor and very satisfying. For dessert they have bingsu aka Korean Shave Ice which is an absolutely refreshing blend of sweet beans, fruit, and syrups. They don’t have their full lineup of rice porridges at this location, so if you’re looking for jook, go to the OG location. The service here is exceptional! The staff was so warm, inviting, and attentive to all of our needs. With their good food, good value, and great service, I will definitely be back! I will to try some of their other dishes like tteokbokki, bulgogi, and bibimbap!

Okay so this is a very rare occasion where I give an eatery 5-stars and the fact that it’s also a take out place makes it even more of a unique situation for me. Why did I give it 5-stars? Let’s start off with the ambiance. Maybe because it’s new but it has to be one of the cleanest restaurants I’ve been to. The table tops are clean, the floors are clean the chairs are clean and even the front area looks clean and spick-n-span. Next, the service was great. I feel like I was at my parents place where my mom and my aunts are catering to a family dinner. I never had to ask for more water since they always came by to refill it, the staff offered my group and I tea without ever asking. We also were given a free dessert because we ordered it after the bill came(that was by accident btw) and the owner was nice enough to just give it to us. The banchan was refilled when we asked as well. I was also pleasantly surprised with the quality and taste of the food. I had heard that their first location was good but this probably was the better one which also had a larger selection in the menu. There’s something for everyone. The Ireh chicken was really good and the kim chee stew and noodle dishes we had also left us wanting. I’d come back here again especially with friends or just to take out dinner on the way home. They also now serve alcohol as their targeting a younger audience from their other location. The staff is also open to feedback so don’t hesitate to suggest anything. My green noodle was a bit spicy but now that I’m a big boy I can handle it. ;)

Passing Mccully Shopping Center on a Saturday night going home from the movies, a new sign caught my eye. It said IREH. It puzzled me as I only know the Ireh on Keeaumoku, but the logo looked the same. We made a U turn and decided to check it out. My wife loves the original Ireh, but to me it was just ok, with limited menu and meat items. We luckily found parking downstair, we found a seat immediately. We were handed the menu and to my surprise it was much larger than the original. Hallelujah, there was a lot of meat selections from kalbi, to pork, and even chicken. They also had their originals such as tteokbokki and mandoo. I stick with what i know, which is kalbi. It was tender and flavorful. A good and safe choice. My wife, as all Koreans love tteokbokki so thats what she choose. She says its good as the original. We, of course, had to end our meal with the bingsu. Milk shave ice covered with a lot of azuki, fruit, mochi, kanako and nuts. So good. My wife is so happy now that I am willing to go with her to Ireh.
