Honolulu Fitness Center

Been coming here (aina haina location) for over a year now and really like this gym. Its on the small side, but doesn’t get too crowded during the hours I go, which is usually between 5p and 6p during the work week. Most crowded days are mondays and tuesdays, but even then, there is usually no need to wait to use a machine, bench, dumbbells, etc. The gym is hardly ever packed with people working out during the times that i go.
Parking is free and ample in aina haina shopping center, which is a big plus for me. This gym also provides you with a towel to use during your workout.

Honolulu Fitness Center is a quaint fitness/​workout facility nestled in the Koko Head corner of Aina Haina Shopping Center. This facility may not be huge or have the equipment like a commercial gym, but it has enough to provide a great workout.
Prior to joining Honolulu Fitness Center, I was a member at one of those commercial gyms. Bigger doesn’t always mean better. The quality of the members was off putting as they tend to intimidate others. At HFC, members are nice and keep to themselves, as they are focused on their own workout — not trying to show off or impress.
Working out here is very comfortable, and has a homey environment. Though it does get busy, with peak times from 6pm — 8pm, there is always a machine available. Adjust your workout If the machine you planned to use is taken.

I’ve been going to this gym for over 3 years now and I still rlly like it. However, the reason it wasn’t a five star review is because their hours suck… I like working out at night but they close at either 9 or 10… They used to close later in the past, but they keep changing it -.- The reason I choose HFC over 24s is because I feel like it’s really intimidating working out in such a big space around a lot of people (24s) and HFC is smaller and the machines aren’t always taken :-)

Good and smaller fitness center in Honolulu’s Aina Haina neighborhood. I’ve been looking for a place to use the weights and exercise equipment since I am from out of town, and Honolulu Fitness Center seems to have been the solution so far (there is another location at Downtown Honolulu’s Fort Street Mall).
I paid $ 15 plus tax for a day pass, which was worth it in the end. They do also have weekly, monthly, and annual memberships available. All of their equipment is manufactured by Life Fitness (which is a brand I see at the health club I normally go to). The fitness center doesn’t seem to get too crowded, though I must say some of the equipment is placed too close to one another. And there are locker rooms and a shower stall available for use.

No Contracting Fees, No hidden fees. No set up fees.
The UFC gym was like a god damn AT&T, and I just want to go to a gym and workout when I feel like it, and pay by months!
Do you know how gyms make money? It’s through a lot of w/​e set up fees and annual membership fees. And you know those who buy a year upfront, is most likely not going to workout.
This place is clean, not crowded, and the price is very reasonable. All you have to is refrain from eating one McChiken per day, and it will pay for your membership fees!
Your body will appreciate you for it.

Short term memberships (week or month) for visitors without requiring any auto payments from a checking account or anything similar. Other businesses in the same strip mall offer yoga and Pilates, so more options are very nearby. Very friendly staff — Casey was always welcoming and helpful.

Am a member and generally like the place but it is the day after Thanksgiving and they are «closed for the holidays.» Um, this is not a holiday. They are closed lots of other days as well. You are a gym. You should be open every day of the year.
Also, they charge a totally random «facility improvement fee» of $ 35 at the end of the year in addition to monthly rate. Such a fee should be included in the monthly rate guys.
On the plus side the monthly fee is reasonable and the facilities are pretty solid. Busy during peak hours but not bad if you can get there off-​peak.

Overall, the facilities are very well-​kept. There are several treadmill machines, ellipticals, free weights, and other exercise equipment. The facility itself has recently been renovated, and has air conditioning. I think that the staff here is also really friendly.
One of the things that I like about this I know Heine location is that because it’s in the shopping center, there is parking. The downtown location has no parking.
I actually got a two month membership coupon for only $ 55 on Groupon and so for that price, it was a steal. Normally the month-​to-​month rate for membership is about $ 45/​mo with a year contract.
The only reason that I rate this place four stars instead of five, is that if you can’t commit to the year-​long contract, they jack the price up and it’s not worth it. There also aren’t any group exercise classes, but you can pay extra for a personal trainer.

I bought a $ 29 month long membership through Groupon because I’m kind of broke at the moment, and I rode down to the Chinatown location one morning expecting to activate the membership. Well, I got there and there was only one guy at the front desk and he had NO IDEA how to activate my gym membership using the Groupon. Now, when you do a Google search on this place, the very first search result is the Groupon result, not the gym page itself. So they must have a lot of people coming in using Groupon. Pretty crazy that they can’t figure out how to honor my Groupon. Don’t they train their employees? I’m assuming this wasn’t a manager. At least, I’m hoping it wasn’t because damn. So I emailed the place through their website yesterday, and still have not gotten a response over 24 hours later. Very annoying. I used to be a member of 24 and it was very professional but I canceled when I quit my job and could no longer afford it. Too bad. Definitely steer clear of this place.

Wanted to try them out and do a 3 day pass. Called to inquire and no response… I’ve called 3 times in the last 2 hours and no one answers the phone. What kind of business doesn’t answer the phone? Even the busiest of places will pick up because it’s CUSTOMER SERVICE! If you want to bring in customers, let alone retain your current ones, better start with picking up that phone when people call. Overall, if they can’t pick up their phone to answer my question on guest passes, I can’t trust them to be there when I need them to help me as a member.

Cheaper then the other gyms that are in the area but how do you not have subtitles on all your TVs? I even asked and none…

I don’t know how many stars to give because … I am trying to call this gym to inquire about rates (due to recent reviews of rates changing) … However their phone is broken!!!
I’m sure this is hurting their business :(

I previously held memberships at 24 and most recently UFC. With the ongoing construction in Kakaako and a relocation to living in East Honolulu I wanted something more accessible. I decided to join Honolulu Fitness Center because it is near my residence.
A small gym has both benefits and drawbacks compared to larger gyms. On one hand a smaller membership crowd means it will probably be less crowded. On the other hand the smaller amount of machines means less overall variety and could also mean you could be waiting a while to use the one rowing machine if someone chooses to row for 20 minutes straight. Don’t expect a line up of kettle bells and battle ropes like other gyms; you have your typical amount of basic machines here.
Other pros include free towel service and provided locker rentals. You can borrow a key and there is no need to bring your own lock. There also are no bs initiation fees. Parking is mostly good in Aina Haina depending on the day but it can get crowded.
Now for the cons… Every October a mandatory $ 25 fee is tacked on for facilities improvement. I also do not appreciate the hours being reduced from midnight to 10pm. Those 2 hours are when I usually hit the gym and is a huge factor in me possibly cancelling my membership sometime soon.
The monthly rate is also comprable to 1 location memberships at 24 and UFC. As I said before you get less variety and space. My advice is to join only because of location otherwise stay away. Better value can be found elsewhere.

I have been a member here since they opened. When they first opened there was a promotion: gym member ship for $ 20 a month if you signed up before they opened so i did. A year later without any sort of warning, contact, phone call email etc, I noticed that they started charging me $ 26 per month. I called and talked to Nestor the owner and he said rent went up so he needed help paying for it. BULLSHIT!!! Today i checked my bank account for the new year and was astonished to see the fee went up to $ 31!!! no call, no email, no notice nothing!!! Im canceling and I suggest if you are a member that you cancel too. The whole reason why i liked this place because it was cheaper than 24. now its not and they don’t have the amenities to justify such a jump in membership fees. very unprofessional and I’m sure it’s illegal as well. Expect lawsuits Nestor.

I give this place four stars for cleanliness, location, ample parking, and never being over crowded. Usually only one guy on staff working the front desk. Not a totally professional environment, but it doesn’t bother me.
This gym fits my current needs: Accessible, relatively affordable ($ 35/​month), and a decent variety of gym goers in age and gender. It’s a non-​threatening environment, which I can appreciate. I think the restroom facilities could use more amenities, but there isn’t enough space for that.
They offer complimentary first week trial for. new guests and you get discounts for signing up friends and family right now. The gym gives you a bar code card/​pass. You’ll need to scan it every time you attend. They also have complimentary workout towels during your stay.

I am active member of the gym who is looking for a fitness coach to help me with weight lifting. Need to meet at 5:30 am or evenings. Let me know if interested.

Great Facility. Love the location. Plenty of parking and the gym is very clean. All of the equipment is brand new and its always nice and cold in there. Flat screen TV’s. Water Fountains, Towel Service and drinks. They also have awesome personal trainers. I love my new gym and its very close to my house in Hawaii Kai.
