History
Established in 2013.
For years, The Friends of the Hawaii Kai Public Library hosted annual fund-raising book sales for the library. In 2012, the Friends decided to convert the underutilized atrium on the ground floor of the library to create a bookstore. On April 1, 2013, the store welcomed its first customers, and on August 22, 2013, the Grand Opening ceremony took place after the installation of permanent bookshelves – courtesy of a generous community volunteer.
The rest is history! Since then, we have been very fortunate to have a constant flow of donations. Volunteers clean, sort and price books, DVDs, CDs, vinyl records and other materials, preparing them for sale in the store. Patrons of all ages enjoy access to such materials at very reasonable prices, and the funds raised support the library’s various programs, including the purchase of books, magazine subscription, DVDs, and other items. It is a win-win operation!
