Hapa Bar

Came here after a beach visit on Mother’s Day… let me just say this. Not ALL mothers want a champagne brunch!!! We literally just wanted nachos, and a round of drinks (alcoholic & non since I can’t drink right now) I was SO disappointed when I was told I could only have fried pupu’s because they were doing the buffet for Mother’s Day! Again, some Mom’s want nachos!!! Instead we settled for mozzarella sticks & coconut shrimp, 2 sodas and a beer… bill total $ 34!!! There were only 6 pieces in each appetizer and the shrimp cost $ 12! Next time I can’t get nachos, I think we will just decline and move on :(

Our server was a lovely young woman who was extremely attentive. I hate that I cannot remember her name! Great service.
The fish tacos (I believe it was one of their specials or even just an appetizer) were really good. Came with four small tacos with nicely flavored fish, pineapples to sweeten it up, & I believe it had some cabbage for the crunch. Priced well, too.
My only complaint was that our cocktails were incredibly weak :(
Anyway, they have a special between the hours of 2pm & 5pm weekdays (not sure about weekends). Discounted drinks & food.

I work on Hickam so my coworkers and I come here after work. Place was ok, then went downhill for awhile. Walked in the other day and there’s new chairs, tables, servers… a brand new attitude! We love this place again! Please keep it up!

One star because the view was beautiful. As for the food & service, it was horrible. Took forever for someone to acknowledge us. Took even longer for out food to come out. This place obviously doesn’t understand how refills work either. Our glasses were empty the entire time we ate. The server literally tossed our food on the table & ran off. Didn’t ask if we needed anything, didn’t come back to check on us. I will never come back to this place again.

Good food and good service. I give a ⁴⁄₅ star because there is only one person serving 4 group of people. She was wonderful, however we have to wait because she is doing lots.

Drinks at sunset. People unwinding after work and being friendly and pleasant. It’s like a Cheers for the base set.

Boo! If you’re gonna get some nice refreshments go inside Sam Choy’s and sit on the outside patio for the same drinks at same prices.
It’s a nice concept but the wait staff here is well… HORRIBLE! Every time I’ve come here, our table has been flat out ignored for long stretches at a time. The food was meh. The cherry on the top, was the first occasions here, our waiter forgot someone in our party had ordered a drink and when she told him that she had already ordered he got super defensive.
The next time I was here I ordered a water and said I needed just a minute to figure out what beverage I wanted… SHE NEVER CAME BACK!

As was mentioned by another reviewer, the upside to this establishment is the convenient location on Hickam and the fairly nice ocean view. We were actually headed to the adjacent Sam Choys for an early dinner only to realize that they didn’t open until 5:00, so we killed 40 minutes on the patio of the Hapa Bar.
We were greeted and told to help ourselves to a table. Drink menus were on the tables but it took quite a few minutes for someone to bring food menus over. The selection was pretty small and since we were headed to dinner we didn’t want to fill up on sliders or a quesadilla so we opted for garlic fries. They took forever to make it to the table but were pretty tasty. The Mai Tai I ordered was pretty good. I have to agree that the prices are not super cheap. They were able to transfer the bill to the restaurant for our dinner, which is a nice feature.

NOT A FAN. I am giving an extra star because this place is on base and convenient (and better than the enlisted club) but that is it. I have been here twice, and was not impressed either time. The first time I went for happy hour with a few girlfriends. We ordered drinks and pupus. The drinks were very inconsistent and the food was decent. A lot of my fresh made chips were soggy and really gross, but one of my friends ordered some pretty good fried calamari. The service was AWFUL. My friend told me that recently the management changed and the place was a lot better, so my husband and I decided to go back and check it out. The menu appears to have changed, but not for the better. Not a single pupu looked appetizing to me or worth the bloated price (and I was apprehensive to try one again if it was anything like my last visit). The service was still really bad. I watched two tables have issues with their food/​their bill. I know our waitress was trying, but it was just her by herself and she was quick to blame others for all of the issues going on. When she was explaining the check issue to one of the other tables (she was VERY loud) she literally said «I promise it is right.» That just felt weird to me. I would suggest if you want to enjoy your happy hour with a great view and some good drinks and pupus that you venture off base to a better location.
