Cake Creations Dessert Haven

Reading all the bad reviews brings me back to my wedding day! Everything went very smooth with all of my vendors EXCEPT for Cake Creations!
My husband and I (and my 10 month old daughter) went in for a scheduled tasting a couple of months before our wedding. They were not prepared at all. Both of the ladies were grouchy and the cakes were cold. They said they only had a couple of cakes for us to taste. Wtf! If you knew we were coming in for a tasting wouldn’t you have more ready? Lucky for them one of the samples was red velvet (my favorite). It was good. Not the best I’ve ever had, but good enough. We ordered a small heart shaped cake (just for my husband and I) with cute flowers painted all over it. We gave them a fabric swatch that we wanted them to paint over the entire cake.
Fast forward to the week of the wedding. I kept in contact with all of my vendors throughout the planning process just so that I had piece of mind. I called Cake Creations a week before and they didn’t answer their phone. I wanted to make sure they could deliver my cake (they never told me there was a delivery fee). I left a few voice messages and emails and none of them were answered. I started to get worried a couple of days before the wedding so I began leaving more urgent voicemails and emails. Still no sign of them. My mom began to get furious. She called the day before the wedding and left a very bitchy message. They finally called my mom back and said they were out of the shop all week. My mom asked if they were delivering the cake and they had no intentions of delivering it. They told her there was a $ 60 delivery fee. At that point I was so over it so I just said whatever. I was so irritated!!! Why didn’t they call me, the bride, back?!! It seems like they didn’t take me seriously because I was young (23 at the time).
Anyway… My party planner was stressed out on the day of the wedding because Cake Creations was LATE!!! After everything they put us through they could’ve been on time.
My cake was not like the fabric swatch but it was cute enough. My swatch was a light brown with little flowers all over. My cake was pure white with little flowers all over. I was wondering why they didn’t color the fondant light brown??? Lazy maybe? The cake tasted okay. Like I said I have high expectations for red velvet. I ordered red velvet cupcakes from Cake Couture for all (500) of my guests. If they made cakes I definitely would have ordered it from there because they have the best red velvet!
I do not recommend Cake Creations at all. Their customer service (like everyone else said) sucks! They put their cake making classes before their cake clients. They never answer their phones or return calls. They’ll stress you out during your planning process! Their cakes are not worth their crappy attitudes/​service.

2 stars because when my husband and I did our cake testing, the lady who helped us was extremely nice. Now, one reason why I don’t really care for cake tasting… is that the cake will hardly ever taste the same on the day of the event. On the day of our cake tasting, because it was baked right before our appointment, was warm, moist and super delicious. Our theme was hearts and colors were red and white. We chose a cake that was in their portfolio… it looked beautiful! Perfect and everything I wanted.
Fast forward to the day of our wedding and it was time to cut the cake… the first time I really got to look at it and it was soooo sloppy, I honestly felt really embarrassed to have all of that in front of our guests! We never served the cake and thankfully Hilton Hawaiian Village’s desserts were super yummy anyways. The cake also seemed like it was made maybe several days to a week ago because it was awfully dry. We also had a heart cake topper which I literally cut into the next day because I wanted to eat it and found out it was styrofoam!!! Seriously?! We weren’t notified of this either during the consultation. We ended up throwing the entire 3 tiered cake away. It was such a waste of money.
What I would recommend to anyone who is going to end up spending a fortune on a cake: ask the cake artist exactly when your cake will be baked and how you can prevent it from becoming dry (if your cake is actually moist the day of your event) after you take it home.

¡*Please read this*! I hate this place every time we pass by to visit my father in-​law I get upset. My husband and I were shopping for our wedding cake, and since it was really close to were my in-​laws live we figure to give it a shot. I sent them an email to make an appointment. One month passed and no word. I sent another and the same. Finally we called five time before we get any answer. The lady on the phone said «we only make appointments via email «…Really??? We told them we already sent one and no reply. So she made us one, the day finally came and when we arrived to their establishment they were CLOSED. No one was there, we were extremely upset. We called and nothing, we left them a «friendly» message and ended up getting our wedding cake from A Cake Life. Kristin is very professional and our wedding cake was phenomenal. It was just very delicious. Please go somewhere else.

More like 2 ½ stars. For my Oct 2012 wedding, I ordered two cakes. The day of my wedding, Lori forgot our cake topper, which we brought to her two weeks in advance and was placed in the display case (and asked if she could buy the others I had with me). Luckily, my coordinators got in touch with her and by the time we cut the cake, it was on BUT my photographers had taken pictures beforehand. The flavors were more tart than I remember during the tasting. I actually made a face after I ate it. The 2^nd cake was for my dad’s 70^th birthday. She sketched the cake in front of us, which was a 49ers cooler and Budlight bottles on top, 2 things I said my dad absolutely loves. The cake had Budweiser bottles instead. Hello?! She even WROTE Budlight on the sketch. I sent an email several weeks later expressing my disappointment but received no response.

My review would basically reiterate earlier reviews about the terrible customer service and mediocre product. By all means, if you’re the kind of bride who can tolerate uncertainty about whether or not you will have a cake or not (the cake was delivered after the reception STARTED, and since there had been no communication we bought a back-​up cake at no small expense) then go right ahead and work with these people.

Lani really listened to what my husband and I wanted for our wedding cake. She was able to personalize it so that it incorporated both of our personalities. It turned out beautifully! We received so many compliments on our mad hatter cake.
Also, we were able to secure a 20% off coupon from attending a workshop at the Wedding Café.

Sent them pics of the cakes I wanted. They emailed me back and said they could do it. Didn’t hear from them for 2 days. Emailed them again, seeing as how NOBODY EVER ANSWERS THE PHONE. They asked for my number and I gave it to them. Said they would call me. It’s been 2 days and nothing. Will not waste my time or money on them!

Okay this is a special review. I called Cake Creations and talked to Lani. We were putting on an event for Breast Cancer Awareness and we were hoping that Cake Creations could beat the price for cake pops (cake lollipops) that was quoted for 3.50 a piece by another company that will not be named. I was in a tight spot, because we were on a budget and were looking for about 100 of these cake pops. Sensing that i was in a jam and frustrated at what others were quoting me for such a nice sized quantity of cake pops, She did the unthinkable and most unexpected thing. She made us 100 cake pops for the event at no charge!!! I don’t know if she lost someone to breast cancer or what. and i was expecting to pay something… I am just blown away… THANK YOU CAKE CREATIONS!
PS: Don’t call and be a jackass and ask for free stuff. you’re missing the point of the review… it was something totally random, unexpected and speaks to the character of this company.

I totally agree with the customer service comments on all the «one-​star» ratings. And that verbatim phone conversation was atrocious. It’s amazing that in a community so small someone would be that rude to a customer. I tried to order a cake for my daughter’s birthday and went to their website and filled out their forms and never received any return phone calls or emails. I would not recommend this bakery to anyone.

Not friendly at all! She quoted me $ 700 for my sons birthday cake which would of been a pair of Jordan shoes and a basketball! I checked out her website and her work wasn’t all that anyway!

I guess what it boils down to is all they really do is put a bunch of frosting on cakes. I’ve tasted it and it’s not great. What we all must remember is that cake decorating does not require customer service skills or business etiquette. They teach a bunch of rich stay at home moms how to play with frosting all day and pretend that they’re being productive.
I’m kidding– being mean! My mom decorated cakes and taught cake decorating classes and she’s the best… Sorry mom!
But, honestly you guys really do suck! Hire a customer service person to answer your phones and emails. Stick to what you do best: Putting pretty flowers and teddy bears on CAKES…

PLEASE DO NOT GIVE BUSINESS TO PEOPLE WHO TREAT CUSTOMERS LIKE THIS. They are unprofessional and disrespectful and do not deserve to be in business, especially in Hawaii.

Cake Creations did our son’s first birthday cake on 12÷11÷10. My wife found a few circus themed cupcake designs from around the internet which she really liked and they were able to incorporate them into our cupcake tower without problems. We found that they are very good at what they do, which is putting together incredible «Cake Creations.» They were also very accommodating when we had to make a minor change to our order a week before the event.
I noticed that some people have had difficulty contacting them. We did experience a little of it too especially when trying to set up the consultation, but for the most part they were able to get back to me within a day or two at the longest. Most times they responded the same day. It seems they are very busy especially around the weekends and their website does say they will get back to you for consultation requests within 2 days but will respond quickly to customers they are already working with. I can’t speak for the other reviewers but from our own experience, the communication was not a problem.
Next to the presentation of the cakes, a very important factor to us was the taste of the cupcakes. We tried some samples at the consultation and were very surprised at how moist and flavorful they were. I personally would rate them as some of the better cupcakes in town; up there with Cake Couture & Hokulani. If you’re ever in Manoa, I would recommend picking up a cupcake or two from their showcase to see for yourself. We are very happy with our Cake Creations experience and would recommend them.

This review is based on my first (and now only) experience utilizing Cake Creations for my wedding cake. I am very disappointed. Went in for a consultation/​cake tasting, and mind you, I set up this appt 3 weeks ago! Well, we showed up right on time, and Lani (who was very nice) quickly sat us down at a teeny table (their only one) at their storefront, plopped down portfolios and said «Hi, you have an appt right? Okay, look through these and if you have any questions let me know. I’m back here if you need me.» Wha???
Let me also mention that I never got any confirmation call, email, or any correspondence from them before the meeting. So, I went there, and she had no idea of what I wanted, and didn’t seem interested in finding out!
We then proceed to look through the books, and she comes back a few minutes later to chat. The whole time, she stands nearby, as if she has better things to do! There is no note taking, explanations or sketches drawn, and she didn’t have any notes from my initial conversation!
Here is the kicker: we then find out that she can’t do any cake tasting because they are doing renovations. ?!? What the hell!!! Why couldn’t you call me and tell me this before I dragged myself over to Manoa to try your flavors!!! That is the whole damn point of having a wedding cake appointment!
So, we left 25 min later (actually were rushed out as she said she had to prepare for her cake class!) without having accomplished anything worthwhile.
A professional would have notified me IN ADVANCE if he/​she could not do what was intended, in this case, a full consultation (which by phone she said would be 1 – 1.5 hours long), and a tasting.
If this is how they conduct their daily operations, imagine how they would be when the big day rolls around! Geez.
This vendor lost my business!!!

My girlfriend and I randomly stopped in here the other day just to check it out. I love little pastry places and sweets shops, so the quaint, cottage-​like appearance drew me in. Inside reminded me of a little girl’s doll house. Pink, and scattered with cute little nick-​knacks here an there.
While I wasn’t looking to purchase anything, the cupcakes in the display caught my eye and suddenly my sweet-​tooth was screaming to be satisfied! We both bought a red-​velvet cupcake each: standard cupcake size with generous frosting, and golden sprinkles on top.
Tons of places offer red-​velvet cupcakes; Starbucks and Seattle’s Best to name a few… but nobody does them right. That is, nobody except Cake Creations. They’ll run you about $ 3.00 each, but oh lord, are they ever worth it. The cake is soft, moist, and velvety topped with creamy, melt-​in-​your-​mouth vanilla frosting. Honestly, I can’t even describe how perfect these little cupcakes of Heaven are. Really, I can’t. Just try one and you’ll understand why.

Had a friend who did her daughter’s wedding cake and party from Alaska — And spent a lot — the wedding cake — she paid $!500. and it was SO sad cos she did NOT get what she wanted — the cake was a fondant cake — choc fondant — and nothing like the wedding dress the bride wore — when the cake maker (who shall remain anonymous) — was told the cake was not at all what the bride n family wanted — she promptly told the bride’s mom — cough up $ 2500 —

Their customer service SERIOUSLY needs work. I don’t understand why they get 5 stars on here when it’s obvious that brides have to play phone tag! A wedding is stressful enough without having to chase after your cake vendor. They get 1 star for great tasting cake, but that will only take you so far. A few years back when they were still at their old location at Iolani Ave, my sister was trying to order a wedding cake from the west coast mainland and had major trouble contacting them by email and phone. I left voice mails for them that were unanswered. Finally when my sister reached them long distance, they told her that they never received my messages. Their only other excuse was that they were busy. My sister did end up going with them after a lot of phone tag, and the cake was delivered the day of her wedding prompt and ahead of time — but where was the person who set it up? When we went to the hotel banquet room to check and thank the delivery/​setup person (my sister actually wanted to tip them), there was the cake just sitting there in the middle of an empty dining area on the table. The cake design itself was not what my sister wanted even after showing them several different sample pictures, but oh well, it was done. We also only needed a cake for 50 people and they convinced us that we needed something bigger so we ended up with cake for over 100 guests.
Fast forward a few years to their new location in Manoa. After some phone tagging, my friend who really likes their cakes and due to personal reasons — and budget in this downturn economy, decides that she wants to have a cake from Cake Creations only for the wedding party itself and for cutting, but would have cupcakes from another vendor for her guests served separately buffet style. Our appointment was at 5pm; we arrived 5 minutes late due to rush hour traffic and then we were told we had ½ hour to decide on a cake (c’mon, is there really a bride out there who can actually decide on a cake and design in 30 minutes?) because they had a class in 30 minutes. No cake tasting for you. At first they appeared fine when my friend mentioned she wanted a cake topper and for how many people. But their tone literally changed the moment they found out she had another vendor and they showed us the door. Their reason? They didn’t want to be associated with another cake vendor just in case the other bakery was sub par and would dampen their own reputation. My friend was confused and apologetic thinking that Cake Creations didn’t want to make a smaller cake for her. However, they clarified as they ushered us out the door saying that if we had wanted to order a small cake for any other event, they would gladly do it, but would not work with anyone else. By the way, there’s a delivery charge of $ 40 for a small 6 inch cake. Nice. Sadly, they were recommended from a mutual friend who works with them and really wanted to promote them.

lani! you’re the best. this place is amazing. they are prompt and genuine with their service. when we called to set up our wedding cupcakes, lani answered and we were off. she set up the pricing and options with us very quickly. she even gave usan appointment to taste all the different flavors 2 days before the wedding letting us decide there! On top of that they will drive 30 miles to set it up whereas crap holes like cake catoure tell you to put it in their trunk if you want to drive it that far. this place is great when it stands alone, but when you compare it to all the other companies in terms of price, service and quality this place looks even better. if you ever plan on getting married out on the islands you must consult this place first second and last. mahalo!

We found this place online, and handled all of our arrangements by phone as we were having a destination wedding. Loni was extremely helpful and kind, and although we did have to play a little bit of phone tag when we were trying to drop off our cake top, she was very lovely to deal with. Our cake was delicious! We had the coconut cake, a specialty of theirs, and it was divine. I am not usually a big coconut fan, but wanted something unique and it was just that along with extremely delicious. We opted for the whipped cream frosting so it was not too heavy. The other tier was vanilla cake with their mango and pineapple mousse filling. There were actual bits of fruit in this, and our guests were beyond impressed with the whole thing. My only complaint is that we needed a cake for just 25 and ended up with a cake to feed 40, which meant we had too much left over and there was no way to preserve it. They set up for us at the tea room and added fresh orchids which were gorgeous. I am a highly satisfied customer and would recommend this place to anyone who needs a reliable bakery for any occasion on the island.

My wedding coordinator handled all the details with the cake but it turned out to be exactly how I wanted. I sent a picture of the design I wanted the cake in and showed how I wanted the flowers to cascade down the cake and they made it exactly how I described. The cake was also very delicious! I usually don’t like fondant but I was able to eat theirs. We had to break tradition because we couldn’t save the top layer because we had a destination wedding and had to travel on our honeymoon before heading home so we ate the top layer at the airport and it was still good!
