Boulangerie Bakery is the sister bakery to Hoku’s in the Kam Shopping Center. They don’t have the full selection, but you can get your fix of Turtle Bread, this fancy butter sandwich is addictive. The rolls are soft, the sweet butter filling has bits of nuts and fruit, if I had this for breakfast or a snack, I’d be a happy camper. They have individual and whole desserts. Their Swiss Rolls would be nice to serve with coffee, their Panda decorated cupcakes would be be a highlight for a child’s party, their whole cakes would be perfert for a celebration. Head to Boulangerie Bakery for a snack or something to bring to your next event.

Small little café style bakery located on S. King St. shortly before Kalakaua Ave. There are 3 metered stall directly in front, or more metered stalls lining Kaheka St. Once inside, grab a pair of tongs and a tray and select whatever type of pasteries you want. There is also a self serve coffee station set up off to the side, just make your purchase at the register first. They also have a couple of small tables where you can sit.

We used to come here once a week to pick up pastries and their roll cake. The pastries are decent, but their roll cakes are really good. So why the bad rating? We simply can’t trust them when it’s time to pay for whatever you want to pick up from them. The last two times we came here when we used to frequent this place, they overcharged us. We had to drive all the way back to the shop, and they didn’t even apologize. We decided to give them another chance today since we were passing by. Guess what? The same thing happened again today… so strike three. Luckily, we caught the error before leaving the place. We won’t be coming back here anymore. It bothers me to know that they overcharge customers this frequently. For you who choose to try this place out, please make sure you are charged correctly and the appropriate amount of change is given.

Turtle bread is so good :) my sisters neighbor first gave us some turtle bread and it was so good we had to ask where she got it from. So my mom and I went down to buy some turtle bread:) The flavor is not too sweet and its similar to pastries made in japan. There was a lot of nuts and cream in mine :) We also bought a small HK cake. It’s very cute but the flavor was ok. It’s basically sponge and whip cream. But I think it was worth it because I got to take a nice picture of it and it’s pretty cheap.

This review is based on their Mocha Decorated cake. Just because I want them to improve on the quality of the product and customer service. One star bc: The cake was soooo dry! I understand that sponge cakes are suppose to be light, airy and not overly sweet… But something tells me the cake they sold me was at least 2 days old or else their recipe for sponge cake has something wrong in it… The frosting was greasy. It left a oily and greasy feel on your lips and in your mouth. They tried to marry this very sweet mocha frosting to an old dry biscuit of a cake… It didnt work. This was a $ 32 cake that seemed like it should’ve been $ 7.00(and that’s being nice) I know this may sound petty and immature, but really, someone’s special day only comes once a year and if they have been looking forward to their favorite bakery’s cake… Wouldn’t you want it to be top quality? It’s not cool to waste money and time :( Don’t make the same mistake as I did! On a good note though! — they have this butter toast that is AMAZINGSOBUTTERYANDDELICIOUS! It’s thick and perfectly sweetened with the sprinkle of sugar. They run out of those FAST, so called ahead or go early. I

This was our first visit and we will probably go back the next time we are in the area! The pastries were very delicious and the Thai coffee was YUMMERS! And just as important, the sweet ladies that work there were so helpful and patient with me and my kids. All in all, it was a very pleasant and happy experience. The only bad part was that it was hard to decide what to eat, everything looked so yummy.

Delicious Korean pastries! They serve turtle bread which is has a flaky butter crust with whip cream filling and dried fruits(aka the best bread you’ll ever eat) the first time I ate turtle bread was in Korea and it was only $ 3, but we all know that in Hawaii prices are marked up by 200% so it’s priced at $ 8 here. I don’t mind paying the $ 8 because it’s so good. I also recommend their peanut bread(: They also sell affordable cakes that are listed around $ 22(with the cake you get candles and a plastic knife with a sturdy box to carry it in!). P. S if you plan on purchasing a cake eat it on the day it’s made because it tastes better, if you leave it overnight it becomes strangely tough to chew… This is the brother/sister and original location of honu bakery located in kalihi!

So this review is based on a reply from the owner. He offered his apologies and also offered to give us a free turtle bread. I’m impressed that he would take the time to explain to us about his cakes and also offer to give us something that we like. I feel that a lot of people would not do this. We also left the cake out for a while like he said and while the texture was better, the flavor wasn’t all there for us. However! Because of the owners willingness to improve, we may consider giving it another try.

Delicious Korean pastries in a relaxed and comfortable café environment. Everyone was buying the turtle bread(break apart sweet rolls) but we had the red bean paste pastry.

I stopped by Boulangerie this morning to grab some coffee before a meeting down the street. I believe this is the same company that has the new Honu bakery location in kam shopping center. This might be the original one? I’m not sure. Either way, in direct comparison, this bakery is much smaller, has less on the shelves and has almost no seating. I don’t think this would be a very comfortable place to get anything done and so while I very much liked the very nice and spacious Honu bakery in kalihi, I was not at all a fan of this King street location, especially considering that this part of town has much steeper competition. Overall, I wasn’t impressed by Boulangerie and I can definitely say that«I’ve experienced better.»

Even though it is located next to where I work, I’m surprised it took me this long to try this place out. Their pastries are always made fresh everyday. I like to always try something different and have never been disappointed. Pastries aren’t too sweet or heavy and they have a pretty decent selection Their claim to fame their turtle bread. Pull apart buns filled with a light cream, raisins, and nuts. It’s a bit much and a little pricey(about $ 8 per loaf), but worth it. Their coffee is also quite good. If you’re into iced coffee, they make each cup fresh(in a way more similar to an Americano), so you don’t have that day old coffee taste.

C’est bon! Don’t expect a full-on French bakery but do enjoy a cute Asian French bakery that has done a good job with its limited space. The 9 grain croissants and pan chocolat were delicious! There is parking in the rear of the building if you can’t find a spot on King Street.

I discovered this place when I happened to stop by next door for some freshly made kim chee. Yes, I agree, their Turtle Bread, pull apart buns shaped like a turtle shell, is tasty, but one is too much for me. I prefer the single pastries, nicely wrapped individually, soft and flakey and not overly sweet. I liked the triangular turnover shaped almond crème pastry with a cup of espresso. They used North Shore Roaster for their espresso and it is a nice medium roast without too much bitterness or acid. I’m glad they’re using a local coffee product. They also have 12 ounce cold drinks, which is nice when you have only a mild thirst — and popular with children and young ladies.

I didn’t have any of the bakery items here but Mink picked up several items to try. She said that the pastries didn’t have much flavor but they were decent. It’s nice that they have parking in the back and street parking right in front of the bakery. When you enter, it’s very cozy and clean. Wasn’t sure what they were making in the back but it had a distinct smell which I didn’t care for much. The cashier just rang us up and didn’t really talk to us or do anything special which didn’t make the experience very memorable. The pastries were all individually wrapped which adds a very nice touch. We noticed they sell cakes too but we didn’t try any.

Blah. The breads and log cake had a weird taste to it(like when you leave it in the fridge too long kinda taste). The only good thing was their chocolate chocolate chip cookie.

Okay, I got out from under a rock. Thank you fellow Unilocal pal Trisha! who checked in getting her Turtle Bread. What??? Turtle bread? I had to check this out. I get there and order a pack of the turtle bread and a few other sweets. Now about this turtle bread, I’m still trying to figure how it got its name. I guess my imagination has much to be desired because it didn’t look like a turtle… Go figure Who cares what its named? It was good, no wait, great bread with a custard and some sort of nutsy thing on top… They have cakes and other types of sweets to try from as well. Yep! I’m a fan… Thank you Trish

It’s all about the turtle bread! Best believe everyone whom I’ve told and sample the turtle bread has been in love with it. The first time I tried it my neighbors actually gave us half of their turtle bread and me and my boyfriend has been hooked since! Sad that they close on Sundays so I try to go there on Saturdays or as soon as they open during the week to get the 1st batch. It’s normally about $ 8 per loaf but they usually have 40% off from the night before. I haven’t tried anything else from there but my girlfriend has said that their cream cheese buns are delicious. Located right on South King street right before the new Panda Express and right across from the park. Parking can be tough because it’s only street parking but sometimes when I go there as soon as they open, I park it at Panda and walk on down. Owners are a Korean family who are nice and efficient at bringing the pastries out and they keep the place clean and stocked up. Every time I go in I buy 2 loafs and it only last me for a week.

My boss’s birthday was only 48 hours away and I was desperately looking everywhere for a bakery that could make me an espresso or coffee cake(my boss doesn’t like sweets, but he loves anything with coffee in it). Fortunately I ran across Lori I.‘s review and pic of Boulangerie’s cakes, so I decided to give Boulangerie a last minute call. Even though it was 15mins past their closing time, the owner still answered the phone. He was very patient as he walked me through the different sizes and pricing for the cake, based on how many people to be served. My cake was made the very next morning and was ready for pick-up after I was done with work. I had to refrigerate it overnight for the following day, but the owner-baker assured me that it would be okay since it was made so recently. ***FYI, refrigerated cakes needs to be left out at least 30 mins prior to being served. That way it will defrost a bit and not be so dry. Thanks for the tip, Boulangerie! All orders of cake comes with free candles and a plastic cutting knife, now that’s service! COFFEECAKE(price varies on the size of cake, this was $ 27): Yellow cake w/coffee buttercream icing. My boss and coworkers loved the cake! He appreciated that the yellow cake was not overly sweet. He also enjoyed the lightly whipped coffee buttercream(I had requested that the owner add extra coffee into it). ESPRESSOCOOKIE($ 2.50): I’ve heard a lot of good things about this cookie from a friend. I decided to buy the last 4 cookies on the shelf and gift it to the boss as well. He said it went great with his morning coffee, success! — I kept one for myself and was immediately a fan. This crunchy cookie had a distinct coffee taste, delicious! And since I’m not a dessert fan, I appreciate that it wasn’t overly sweet. The chocolate espresso candy on top was a nice touch! Thanks for fulfilling my last minute request, Boulangerie Bakery! I will definitely be back to try out your much-raved-about breads! Kamsahamnida!

Don’t let the lame«Bakery» sign deter you away from this gem, Boulangerie is a winner! Although pricier than your average grocery store cake, these delectable desserts will definitely make someone feel extra special on their birthday. Try their cream cake, it’s one of my personal favorites. I really appreciate that they include a cake knife and complimentary candles.
