After attending a local media menu tasting event at the still relatively new/rebranded Bombay Palace, I have to honestly say, I’m a fan! The Tandoor oven really puts the«BBQ» in many of the dishes, while the spices are so complex as one would expect of this type of cuisine, yet WONDERFUL, while not being over-the-top, if you will. The Papadum, described as crispy Lentil Wafers, served with a mint sauce and tamarind sauce are a fantastic exotic start. From there, try their Kabobs dishes, which unlike how it sounds, don’t arrive on skewers, but on sizzling platters, and were all very tasty, tender ‘n juicy. Also try their stewed bowls, which like most others, are laced heavily with a very complex array of middle eastern/far eastern spices that would make your head spin, yet your tummy saying«I LIKE!», while you’re brain’s thinking, «I sure as heck could NEVER make this dish!» Yet that’s the romance of this type of cuisine! Bombay Palace is fun food, while being«mood food» for sure. I mean, you REALLY have to be in the mood for this style of Middle Eastern/Far East cuisine, as you would any other exotic fare. Yet I think owner Imran Khan, along with his Chef Gul«Kenny» Khan have it down pat with their India – meets-Pakistan cuisine here at Bombay Palace. Highly recommended!

Good food, I had the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Samosa appetizer. Samosa app could be a meal by itself, with some bread on the side, great app. My friend had the Coconut Curry with Shrimp. He absolutely loved it, said it was best meal he has had in the 4 weeks he had been in Hawaii. Waitresses we had were great, the hostess needs to find a personality.

Could have easily been a 3 star review for the well made chai and samosas. Unfortunately, when feedback is not appreciated it erodes the experience. So selling under cooked paranthas as good well cooked ones under the pretext of «10 years of business» seems a bit too proud rather than accepting the mistake. For a petty $ 4.95. All the best to all those customers who order a parantha from here.

The service here is really slow. They don’t really know what they are doing when it comes to being efficient. The food however was good. The chef needs to be shown how to make more than one dish at a time… Our food came one at a time. Weird…

We got there around 5:45 and place was empty. So it was either too early or not a good place to eat. Food was actually pretty good and around 6:30 other people showed up. Place is a little pricy($ 22.00) for shrimp vindaloo that had only 4 shrimp. However shrimp were large and food tasted good. Portions were fine not large but I was full. May not be enough for big eaters. Overall it was a good place to eat and I would go back.

Delicious north indian food, the chicken biryani is heavenly … love the lamb shish kebab and how it’s presented on a sizzling platter with fresh onions, lemon and bell peppers. Garlic nan and the tandoori Aloo Paratha were so tasty ! Highly recommend it. Will definitely come back here. Mahalo !

Portions were very small and underwhelming. Price was too high especially considering what you get. Flavor was blah and there was no spice to speak of even asking for extra spicy. Service also subpar. Just not a very good place. User who mentioned only try when desperate for Indian was spot on.

I’ve had plenty of Indian food before and this place has some really tasty food. The onion kulcha(Naan with onion stuffed into it) is particularly tasty. It’s definitely on the pricy side but if there’s any real criticism here is the service. They must be short staffed as it was impossible to catch anyone’s attention to get a refill on water, order more food, or even get the check. It almost got to a point where i had to walk over to a server and politely ask for something. No one checked in on our table once. It was as if they were purposely avoiding us, which I’m sure wasn’t the case. So, all in all, the poor service ruined our evening. The food was better than decent but definitely on the pricey side. I hope they can come up with a better system or higher an extra person.

Bombay Palace, or Monsoon India as it was known until recently, is a place I’ve walked past countless times but never actually eaten at for whatever reason. But my mom and I were out for Indian food and didn’t feel like walking all the up to King, or further, so we decided to give Bombay Palace a try. It’s actually a bit smaller inside than I expected, though not cramped or anything. All in all it’s a bright and pleasant looking restaurant. There’s nothing especially eye catching about the décor, but it works. Of course, what really matters is the food. The menu has a pretty decent selection of classic Indian dishes at reasonable prices(mid to high teens, mostly) especially for that part of town. In an interesting note, it’s the only Indian restaurant I’ve ever been to where they ask if you want your food mild, medium, or hot. We got the chicken tikka masala and a lentil curry, both medium, which was a decent bit spicier than I’d normally expect those dishes to be. Rice was included, which was nice, seeing how annoyingly uncommon that is here in Hawaii, and we also ordered some naan and paratha. Everything, including my mango lassi, tasted fine(spice level aside) and the portion sizes were good. Really, I don’t have any complaints about Bombay Palace but, at the same time, there wasn’t anything that really jumped out at me either. I’ve been to many Indian restaurants and, while Bombay Palace is good, there isn’t really anything about the food, menu, or restaurant itself, that pushes it from good to great. Would I eat there again? Yes. Though, it wouldn’t be my top choice since there are better Indian restaurants out there, if a bit further away from Waikiki.

Go there only if you are really desperate for Indian food, really *desperate*. Taste is 3 on 5. Service is –1 on 5. Careful about the spice level(way out of whack!)

Read some of the reviews, my experience was quite different than a couple. I came with my family, wife and 3 kids. We ordered the chicken tikka masala and A bengan bharta(spicy eggplant) and three garlic naan. At first glance, I thought the prices were a bit on the high side but then I realized that the containers for the dishes seemed a bit bigger than other places in Oahu? And the dishes came with rice too, I always had to pay separately. The entire family got pretty full of of these dishes so I thought the prices were definitely reasonable. The service was friendly, we were greeted with a smile. The server didn’t come by the table often but we had no problems getting extra napkins and water. I did receive water in different types of glasses but not sure why that would be a problem? It tasted fine. The restaurant is nicely decorated and it does show it’s age, the building itself is on the older side but for me, I mainly go to restaurants for the food, not the surroundings. This was my second time here and both times I had excellent food. I’m no Indian or Pakistani but I’ve had good Indian food in San Francisco, San Jose, and Artesia so I’m not a noob when it comes to Indian. I was not charged the 18% gratuity on my bill so I asked about it. Apparently it’s charged when the restaurant is very busy amor the party is 8 or larger. The head chef Kenny stopped by and said hello, he asked how the food was and I told him fantastic. He told me he has 30 years experience in Indian and Pakistani cuisine, no wonder the food is delicious!

Used be mansoon restaurant. Food was a hit or miss. The lamb curry was a complete miss. The cold clumpy rice and tomato ketchup flavor the food was reminder of mansoon. Not much as changed.

Excellent Food. Nice Décor. Onolicious. If Gandhi was alive today and tried the food at Bombay Palace, he would convert to eating meat:)

This is rebranded from monsoon India. 2.5÷5 for food, 1⁄5 for décor and 2.5÷5 for staff. Wouldn’t reseat in spite of of of restaurant being empty in anticipation of busy night which never happened. For the first time in my life both me and my wife got water in different types of glasses(one iced one room temperature) — wierd. To add to that the plates were also different. We ordered Paneer Makhani — too tangy for our liking but still manageable with cheese Naan. veggie samosa was ok nothing great. Also beware they will charge 18% service tax for all tables and probably this is why staff doesn’t care about the service.
