Auto Tech On The Go

My car’s engine suddenly died on the freeway in downtown morning rush-​hour traffic and wouldn’t restart. We coasted safely over to the road shoulder and called AAA. I had AAA tow the car to a well-​known, AAA-​recommended tire/​auto service on Queen St. They called me the following day and diagnosed the problem as a bad distributor, quoting $ 1,500 to replace it. I know that a distributor replacement job is less than half of what was quoted, so I declined the repair and had AAA tow the car to my house. After paying the tire/​auto service’s $ 148 diagnostic fee, they gave me a copy of their written repair estimate, and to my surprise, in addition to $ 600+ to replace the distributor, they tacked on $ 800 in «recommended», non-​essential services that they did not inform me of over the phone — fuel additive, fuel filter, new spark plugs, new spark plug wire set, etc. I just wanted my car to run.
When I got home, I Googled «honolulu mobile auto repair» and saw high marks on Unilocal for Auto Tech OTG. I called to make an appointment and Kyle, an ASE-​certified auto technician, came to my house the next morning. I showed him the tire/​auto service’s repair estimate — immediately, Kyle had me crank the engine and he said it sounded like no compression in the cylinders, an indication that the engine wouldn’t start because of a broken timing belt, not a bad distributor. Kyle removed the spark plug from the #1 cylinder, hooked up his compression gauge, and sure enough, no compression — a broken timing belt. (If I had let the tire/​auto service fix my car, they would have replaced a perfectly good, working distributor for $ 600+ and then when the car still didn’t start, they’d realize that the timing belt was broken, which would have been another $ 900 to replace just to get the car running again.) So it turns out I paid the tire/​auto service $ 148 for an incorrect bad distributor diagnosis,
Kyle cleared one day on his calendar the following week to replace not only the timing belt but other parts that needed to be removed in order to get to the timing belt (water pump, drive belts, coolant hoses, etc.). On repair day, he finished the job in a bit over 4 hours (wow!). He even replaced my thermostat and topped off my engine oil which was a ½ quart low! My car started right up and runs great. Here’s the real kicker — for all that work, he charged me 50% of what the other guys would have overcharged me to get my car running.
Kyle is personable, hard-​working, diagnoses and repairs quickly and accurately, and doesn’t tack on non-​essential items. He recommends things to watch out for, is very reasonably priced, and is reliable and honest. He called me when he was on his way over and called me if he was behind schedule. I’m glad to say that he’s my new auto mechanic! Thanks again, Kyle!

Not sure exactly how to rate these guys since they do not respond when contacted. I called in the morning on Saturday, no one answered. I left a very detailed voicemail about my situation and what I thought was wrong with my vehicle. I also left contact information. The message on the voicemail mentioned checking out their website. I decided to do so after leaving my voicemail. On their website there is a page to schedule an appt. So I filled that out as well, leaving as much detail as possible. I also mentioned that I left a voicemail.
No call back Saturday. I figure, ok, even though they were open for several hours after I left my message, it’s reasonable to give a business 24 hours to respond. Sunday was Mother’s Day and I’m sure they were not open Sunday. Fine. Monday, still no call or email. I go to the website again Monday night and fill out the form again, just in case they did not see the 1^st one. Today is Tuesday, still no reply. It has been 3 business days since I requested they contact me and nothing.
Guess they are too busy to need my business. Lucky them. I wanted to leave a 5 star rating like everyone else and was looking forward to finding a good mechanic who can come to me at my home, job, etc. But I guess it wasn’t meant to be. I’m giving them 3 stars because I’m sure they do an excellent job, but they don’t really seem to care about new customers. Most people are lost without their vehicles. I’m not saying I expected them to come out ASAP. I know it probably would have been several days after speaking to them. But if I never speak to them, they will never come out.
Very disappointing.

Kyle made it all the way out to Waipahu to fix my Silvia s13 a/​c. Had my own parts and I took only an hour to get it done. The repair cost $ 300, which was 270 less than what Cesar’s Auto was gonna charge me. Highly recommend if you can’t make the time to take your car to a shop.

I went in search of a mobile mechanic because the brake lights on my car wouldn’t go off, and I didn’t want to drive it that way to a shop. Auto Tech On the Go had all 5-​star reviews on Unilocal,so I decided to give them a try.
Let me start by saying this — believe the hype! 100% positive experience.
Kyle returned every call, communicated every step of the way, showed up on time every time we met, and stayed on top of things until the job was done. Professional, courteous, friendly, flexible, efficient, and reasonably priced — I’ve found my mechanic.
Oh, and I should add that I was probably not the easiest Customer either. I was house sitting at the time so I wasn’t always accessible, and I actually had to cancel on him once. He never copped an attitude, got impatient, or showed signs of being irritated. He just kept his cool — I think that’s noteworthy.

I got connected to kyle from a friend. He came by right away to check out my Honda van. Was very professional and straight forward. No bs, got the job done.

I have used Kyle on several occasions to repair my 99 Honda Accord. Professional, efficient, trustworthy and honest are some terms I would use to describe him and his service. He always shows up when he says he is going to and his rates are reasonable. I would highly recommend him.

So I just bought a 4runner which was over due for timing belt and water pump replacement so I asked my friend if he knew anyone. He recommended Kyle and I couldn’t be more happy with the exceptional quality of service!!!
I had my timing belt, water pump, and a whole bunch of related stuff that needed to be replaced… in less than a week from talking to him over the phone I had the job scheduled on MY days off and completed!
I use my truck daily for work so I couldn’t be more grateful for not only the fast service, but reasonable price I paid!
Oh, and you can’t beat a MOBILE MECHANIC with this kind of service!

If ten stars were available, I would click ten times. The Owner, Kyle, is one class act and no other «mechanic on the go» type service can touch him. No of the other mechanics called me back. Here’s my class act experience with Mr. Kyle.

I received a return call from him within 15 minutes of me leaving a voicemail (he wears a blue tooth ear piece, smart)!! He listens well (I am a typical female that just goes on and on and on). He was not rude nor did he make me feel stupid. Upon appointment day I got a status call letting me know where he was at and approximately when he’d be reaching my home, a little earlier, and asked if that was okay with me. WOW! WOW! WOW! Talk about communication.

IT GETS BETTER!!! He opens the hood, does all the tests, pinpoints my problem. It turned out to be the ECU which was causing the car not to start. My sons vehicle is old 1992 and I can’t really afford a $ 500.00 part. In no time, he’s calling his assistance who confirms the local price and then gives me some great advice.

My non-​Yelper friend, James, recommended Kyle and I’m so glad he did because I finally found a mechanic that I can trust and who I feel is doing work for a fair price. Plus, he’s a mobile mechanic so he comes out to you!
Kyle responded promptly to my email inquiry, arrived early to both appointments I scheduled with him, diagnosed my car’s problem and now the issue I was having is fixed! He also recommended another maintenance job that I should considering having done due to my car’s age, which I plan to schedule with him in a month.

Man, let me tell you, I had a very good experience with Kyle! Unlike all the other on-​the-​go mechanics I called, he actually called me back, twice!
And when he showed up, he helped me install the parts on my car. He didn’t mind that I’d already started work on the car, and was excited that I had made some progress. I was glad he was there, though, because I obviously couldn’t do it myself, and he was there with all the right tools, and the know-​how to do it right.
Anyways, I highly recommend this company, and if they just improved their website, I think they’d be really top notch :)
