History
Established in 1980.
In the early 1970’s, Hockessin was primarily a farming community. Seeing the potential, Dan and Missy Lickle purchased the old Hockessin supply company, which sold hardware, grain and coal. The railroad tracks behind the building carried the coal cars that were winched up to the second floor, where they then dumped the coal into the bins below.
In 1977, Missy opened a small gift shop in two sections of the six bay coal bins. This small gift shop has developed beautifully into «The Kitchen Sink,» a local nirvana for any home decorator. In 1980, the Lickles opened the Back Burner Restaurant, realizing that if people were going to travel to Hockessin to shop, they would need a place to eat.
Now in its 33rd year, Back Burner continues to wow its guests with an eclectic menu offering only the freshest and finest ingredients, a reputable assortment of beers, wines, and cocktails, and a sense of comfort and hospitality that match its great reputation.
«More than a meal — an experience.»
