Crab nachos all day, everyday. Our waiter was delightful and very attentive. I couldn’t finish my buffalo chicken wrap because I was so full. Great atmosphere.

I am tempted to give this place less than five stars, but the food is so delicious that it makes up for its spotty customer service. I’ll start with the negative, just so I can get it out of the way. The service is pretty bad. Our waitress was pretty inattentive. She also messed up our order. Now for the good parts. The food was amazing. We got the half-price appetizers. All of it– the wings, the quesadillas, the shrimp, and especially the nachos– oh the delicious nachos! They are so good. We also got dessert. We got a huge brownie sundae. Out of this world delicious. My other favorite part of Hartefeld is the atmosphere. In the summer you can sit outside and look at the beautiful golf course. In the winter, they have a nice bar area and a cozy sit-down spot in the den. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone in the DE/PA area.

Haretfeld Country Club and Pub I have often brought my(Elaine’s) Brunch Bunch and(Elaine’s) Wingwoman’s Happy Hour group here, always fabulous! There are two dishes I can ALWAYS count on at the Hartefeld: 1. Crab & Avocado Crostini appetizer — perfectly crisp artesian bread with lump crab, avocado, and a bit of cocktail sauce that brings it all together very nicely. I often get this as my meal. 2. The«Filet & Wedge» — a wedge of iceberg lettuce, a sliced filet mignon, bacon, tomatoes, blue cheese crumbles and a creamy blue cheese dressing. OMG! Divine! Yummy!

The Grille and Pub is located at Hartefeld National golf course. This used to be a private club, but recently became public. They have a really nice dining room with a lot of upscale choices on the menu. The service is also extremely friendly. I also enjoy dinning in the bar area. The drink prices are very fair, and the bar menu has a nice selection of soups and various appetizers. The chicken quesadillas are excellent. They also have recently added a large outside patio where you can sit and have drinks, or full dinners. On the weekends they have live entertainment outside as well. This is a great place to visit if you have never been. Even if you are not a member, you will start to feel like one, as the staff will not treat you any differently.

My Mom had a gift certificate to Hartefeld, so she brought my husband and I here for dinner Tuesday night, which is also all you can eat pasta night. We did not go for that option, but loved the cozy ambience of the dining room. We started with the duck spring rolls and the fried calamari. The fried calamari tasted like nothing. The duck spring rolls were very good and I do not even really like duck! I had the butternut squash soup and a salad. The soup was very rich, so rich that I could not eat a lot of my Cobb salad. My husband had the Whimpie Burgers(one of his favorite offerings of Delaware) and my Mom had a caprese salad. For dessert, we shared the peanut butter bomb. The food was good, not great. We also did not technically order any entrees. I would go back — I think Hartefeld is a nice option for Hockessin/Pike Creek residents looking for something a little different!

This restaurant and bar has so much potential, but they always fall short! I moved into the neighborhood over seven years ago and things have really changed. The quality of the food has significantly gone downhill as the prices continue to rise. My biggest complaint is that most of the staff is not friendly, arrogant at times and tend to cater to the older, male golf members. I guess this would be acceptable if the restaurant/bar was private, but it is not. A simple smile and a friendly greeting would go a long, long way!!! This is heavily directed to the bar staff. My neighbors and I agree that we’d rather drive into Kennett or Hockessin for a drink or dinner than to be treated like second class citizens at a place within walking distance. I think this says a lot. I believe it is a huge loss for Hartefeld National because there are over 350 homes in the neighborhood !!!

Right on the border where Delaware meets Pennsylvania at Avondale, Hartefeld is a Country club, restaurant + golf club housed in a historic former stone manor. It holds a sizeable banquet room and outdoor bar area to host weddings and special events. The grounds are beautifully kept and the indoor décor is old money blue blood-esque. For members and the public alike, you can dine in their restaurant, bar area and a roomy patio space that overlooks the golf course. A few years ago, they used to have a deliciously cozy, well-executed menu(back then, the restaurant was also part of the 1492 hospitality group that included the lovely Columbus Inn in downtown Wilmington, DE — now sadly long closed) — contemporary american options(crab crusted swordfish, filet mignon, massive salads) mixed in with bar favorites(whimpy burgers, nachos, wings). Now, it seems like the kitchen has taken a turn for the worse. They’ve changed the menu(and the chefs, obviously) to focus more on bar-type foods — and the result is generic and disappointing. Even their once noteworthy Sunday brunch has been downsized-both in quality and value. Perhaps the outcropping of McMansions that now surround its once empty rolling hills and countryside has something to do with it… perhaps because the 1492 restaurant group dissolved to focus more on golfing properties than their culinary pursuits… whatever the reason, this place is now only worth it for après-golf libations and munchies.
