I typically love this place but we had a pretty bad experience the other night. The bouncers wouldn’t let my friend in because his «shirt was too baggy». He points to a guy that is as big as my friend and says «yeah he’s as big as you and isn’t wearing a baggy outfit.» (Mind you that this guy is wearing a shirt that is tucked in with a coat over it) Okay. I said lets tuck my friends shirt in and he will be fine, right? And the guy says no because «we don’t want people altering their outfits when they get in line». The excuses were ridiculous. He tried to equate the argument to why ppl can’t wear hats in the bar… Which does not make sense considering it’s a HAT… You take the hat off and you can go inside… This is completely different, my friend can tuck the shirt in and it will not make a difference according to these bouncers. Do not wear anything «baggy» to the bar. And baggy is in the eye of the beholder.

After 2 hours of drinking, they kicked me out because I was wearing a hat. I have no problem being told that I cannot wear a hat before I walk into a bar, but not suddenly after I’ve been there drinking for a while without any issues. Best part about being told to leave was that both of the bouncers that needed to «handle the situation» were both wearing hats.

The most racist bar ever. They just throw out Indians for no reason. I just got kicked out because the bartender didn’t want me in because I told him not to throw my tequila shot which the other bartender poured. NEVER GOING BACK.

Come here at the right time and you may have a blast. Come here at the wrong time and you might hate it. I came here on a Thursday evening and the giant back room was basically at our disposal to play beer pong. Good times. They also have Jenga, darts, pool. I also came here during some sort of bar crawl and that was much less appealing. Basically a pretty great bar (with games and drink specials) but the crowd can get annoying at peak times. Also, bathrooms are rather small.

I just got the worst ever customer service tonight. Not only did the bartender give me an attitude, she gave me a drink I paid for in full without ANY alcohol. That is completely rude and I will never come back here ever again.

I’ll start out by noting that after 5+ years of frequenting bars in the NYC area, I had never been kicked out of a bar until last weekend, nor have I ever had a confrontation with a bouncer/​bartender/​staff member.
I recently moved to Hoboken and this was the worst experience I’ve had yet. I decided to stop by The Shannon during a busy Saturday night (7÷25÷15). It was pretty packed and extremely loud inside so we decided to only stay for one round. My friend and I got to the bar and I ordered a well drink and a beer. I handed the bartender my credit card. He informed me that he’ll leave it open because there’s a $ 20 minimum. I told him that we were only staying for one and I didn’t have any cash. He handed back the credit card and took the drinks back without saying another word. I told him I only wanted one round so he responded with, «It’s policy.» I told him it’s illegal to charge more than a $ 10 credit card minimum so he politely responded with, «Order another drink or get the f*ck out.» I let him know that it was uncalled for to speak to me that way so he told the bouncer next to the bar that «these guys gotta go.» The bouncer seemed reasonable and saw that I was level-​head but told me that I had been deemed a «unwanted customer.» The bouncer said it was his first week so I didn’t want to cause him any issues so we decided to leave.
Fortunately, that wasn’t that bartender’s only shining moment. Right after the bartender told me to leave and I was speaking to the bouncer, a girl approached the bartender to ask if he had her phone. The bartender immediately, I mean immediately, told the bouncer to check my friend’s pockets who as standing next to her. I’m not one to ever point fingers about racial profiling but how is it that his first reaction was to say to check the pockets of an unassuming African American instead of checking the phone charger behind the bar, which was actually the location of the phone? The girl was disgusted as well and wound up leaving with us and her friends to find another bar.
A shining single star for The Shannon! I will not be back.

The bouncer is the most racist bouncer I have ever met in my life. I stepped out for a smoke and he asked me to stand in the line and wait. I spent $ 200 that night with two of my friends but no one cares. He simply told us that he is the boss and he makes the rules and he decides which ‘color’ to let in or not. He did not even let us go back in to get my credit card. If there was an option to give negative stars I would totally do that.

Only great if you want a three dollar special. Crowd is non existent so do consider this a dive bar. Maybe just go for a few shots with your friends for your pregame.

Before I begin to explain my night last night, there are three important things you should know:
1. I had never been kicked out of a bar in my life until last night.
2. The only time in my life that I have been involved in a physical altercation was once when a woman at Lucky Burger in the east village put me in a head lock and pulled my hair because she didn’t like my balloon hat. My reaction was to stare at my friends terrified because I have no interest in or ability to be violent.
3. When I dance, I tend to be very expressive. My fiancé Rob always has to remind me to take up less space on wedding dance floors. I’m working on it.
So — back to the night in question. After celebrating my soon-​to-​be sister-in-law’s wedding shower and 30^th birthday, we went to The Shannon for a little dance party. I was definitely not sober, and one could probably glean this from my dance moves. But let me be clear: I was not falling over. I was not throwing up. I was not hurting anyone. I was just dancing crazy.
All the sudden, a bounder/​security dude comes up out of nowhere and tells me I need to leave because I’m «too drunk.» Flabbergasted, I tell him that I’m fine and that I can make sure to keep my limbs more in check. He lets me off with a «warning.»
A little later, I headed over to the bathroom line. Two seconds after getting in line, I feel my arm forcibly grabbed and it’s the bouncer/​security dude, who pushes me toward the door and tells me I’m done. I’m «too drunk.» I politely protest, and ask him and his colleagues what I did wrong — no one gives me an answer. I explain that I’m visiting from my Boston, my new finace is inside and we are hanging out with his family who we don’t see all that often. They did not care.
While outside waiting, I kept asking what it is that I did wrong. At one point, one of the guys says I can’t go back in because I «hit the other bouncer.» WHAT. I would never, ever, ever hit anyone, let alone a bouncer. I am not violent and I am not an idiot.
After accepting the fact that I was not going to win the war with this trio of bouncers who were clearly on an extreme power trip, I explained that my phone was dead and I had no way of communicating with Rob or his sister who were inside. They did not care. I asked if one would escort me back in just to tell the group that I had been kicked out so they weren’t looking for me, and then he could escort me back out. Nope. I asked if I could borrow a phone. Nope. Not a single shred of humanity.
Finally, a kind patron let me borrow his cell on his way out, and I was able to tell Rob about my plight. He came and rescued me, and we will never be back again.

Have come here a bunch of times trying out all the different bars in Hoboken like normal drinkers do lol but never have I had a time like I had with Kathy. She is the most down to earth sweetest funniest bartender I have ever encountered ! Best drinks Always a smile and really made us feel comfortable and welcomed — We WILL be coming back hoping we have another experience like we did tonight ! THE BEST

Music was great! Dance music that we all knew. I hate when they play one genre too long but this DJ was great! $ 10 pitchers before 10. Better get some booze in ya before than bc after $ 10, no pictures, forced to buy $ 5 bottles. Security was observant and instantly tossed out bafoons falling on the floor. Such a fun night.

Lots of fun. Be ready for anything. Last time I went a woman in her 70s was dry humping a dude in his 20s to 90s hip hop. Think sassy Laura Bush grinding a college age Derrick Rose from the Bulls for a solid 3 minutes.
Also, nightly bar food specials are awesome. Good quality and unlimited quantity makes it all taste even better.

Summary: Lots of fun if you go with an outgoing group and just want to dance. It’s really the only bar big enough to dance in. But the bar itself is sketchy, the clientele is questionable, and the staff are awful.
They charged my bill twice so I have to call and make sure they take off the second charge. The bouncers were incredibly rude and treated us like crap. The drinks were weak and the same price as everywhere else in Hoboken. Guys are constantly trying to dance with girls regardless of if we’re in a group or with our boyfriends. The music was decent but the floor wasn’t packed — and it was a Saturday. Two guys tried to start a fight because they were too drunk and no one at the bar stopped them. Definitely worth going if you just want to dance, but nothing else was appealing.

Always have a good time here… like the type of music they play here the most out of other bars in Hoboken. I take off one stars because the lines are always long. And no, I don’t believe its actually that packed, just make you wait outside as long as possible.

Its a simple bar. Cheap beer. Decent bar food specials most nights. Sports on the tv. This is all I need on a Sunday afternoon. I walked in to try and watch the Ravens game at 1pm. To my surprise, no one was there so the very friendly bartender changed the main bar tv AND the sound to accomodate my team’s game. I could not have asked for a better setup. PLUS she kept my pint full the entire time. I left the bar a little worse for wear than I was intending but the Ravens got a W and I found a new football spot.

Was there last night and went outside to answer a call and the bouncer wouldn’t let me back in – even though I had a FULL drink and my fuckin’ glasses at the bar. He refused to let me back in and get it, and of course I call them today and they don’t have my glasses in their lost and found. SCRUBS!

My favorite local dive bar in Hoboken. The people are friendly, there are always great specials going on, and I love the bartenders! Being able to order your own food here is another plus.

The Shannon is what it is. A great «I just graduated college bar» and local hangout bar. Booze specials are great and pretty damn cheap. Darts, Fooseball, Pool, beer Pong, Bean bag throw game thing, and my favorite– NTN Trivia.
Every Tuesday they have a NTN trivia competition with prizes and free shots. T-​shirts to US Open tixs!
Fun place overall.

If you come here at the right time this place is as good as it gets. Come here at the wrong time and I’m sure you’ll find out why there’s all too many negative reviews.
That being said me and my girlfriend were here around 5−7pm on Saturday. There was less than 10 people in the front room and nobody in the back room. We sat at the bar drinking our $ 3 pints of Miller Lite before realizing that beyond the pool table there was a huge back room. This is probably where all the action happens during prime hours with all the fancy screens, lights, and DJ booth but as we had the place to ourselves we didn’t have to deal with any of the obnoxiousness that most likely was hours away. The room already had several tables set up for beer pong complete with the cups and ping pong balls ready. There were also three dart boards in great shape and a fuse ball table. An $ 8 pitcher of beer later it was on. I had a great time with my girlfriend here and would definitely come by again as long as it wasn’t crowded.
It’s worth noting that this place has some great drink specials and vary from day to day. The most impressive of which are 50 cent mugs of beer from 12 – 1 on Saturdays. It’s also worth noting there is a $ 20 minimum for credit cards but they do have an ATM (though it has a $ 3 fee).
