I am sad to hear this location has closed, but wish the Southie location good luck! They always had great salsa and good enchiladas. The cooks worked very hard here and I used to frequent this place when I lived local.(new to Unilocaling so I missed out prior!). The owner is in fact a nice guy and did his best to keep this place going. The Southie location is great so while this location has closed, please check out that spot! Margs are great, cheese enchiladas rock and the ground beef is delish!

Staff were friendly enough but, the place was very dirty. I had to wipe rice off my seat and there was dried salsa on the table. The menu was not the same as on-line. Food was bland and our drinks were all flat. They were out of many items. Way over priced. This was my second time at this place, I went there for a function once. I wasn’t happy then either but I decided to give it another chance because they were short staffed that day… Still not good. I think chef Ramsey needs to visit this place. It needs a re-boot.

Don’t EVER book a function there! I made a deposit for a function and over a three week span I monitored that they still hadn’t charged my credit card. I e-mailed Salsa’s a couple of times with no return e-mail. Finally, I called Valerie, the function coordinator, last Friday and she nonchalantly informed me that they were starting construction on 6⁄30 and it wouldn’t be done in time for my function on 7⁄19. She told me that I’d have to «find some other place» like it was just that easy. I informed her that the invitations were already printed and I’d have to order a whole new batch of them. She replied«Yeah, you’ll have to get them reprinted…» without even a «sorry»!!! Not only was I appalled by her lack of care and concern but also with the fact that I gave them my credit card number three weeks prior and they never ran it. They clearly knew they wouldn’t be able to host my function but never said anything for weeks. A simple«sorry» or further explanation, or even better… an offer to pay for the invites… would have shown that they actually care about their customers but it’s evident they don’t. Additionally, Valerie, the function coordinator, is very hard to get a hold of and offers zero information when you talk with her. Zero customer service skills. The owner, David, also owns The Sausage Guy… a sausage cart on the top of Landsdowne Street outside Fenway Park… don’t go there and support these careless people!

There are very few good Mexican places around here on the South Shore, and with Salsa’s great location i expected better. Service was good, our server was new but did a good job considering she was covering a lot of tables. We started with a couple of margaritas that were ok, don’t think fresh lime was used which didn’t bother me, but was noted by other members of our party. No apps we went straight for food, combo chicken, sausage and steak fajitas came sans the steak for some reason but our server fixed it after a little coaching on how to communicate with the kitchen(she was a little afraid of them for some reason?) They didn’t come out sizzling, another disappointment and the soft tortilla’s were lacking in substance so broke up as you tried to roll up a fajita. I had a chicken and tortilla dish that was incredibly bland, and it wasn’t whole chicken breast, it was like thin formed chicken similar to what you get a Chinese restaurant, stacked on top of each other to give the appearance of a chicken breast. Weird. Refried beans were awesome, not home made, but good all the same. I think the most shocking thing we discovered was that there was no manager. Running a restaurant without a manager is like having a ship without a captain, it will run fine for a while, but as soon as the weather gets stormy, there’s going to be trouble.

My wife and I love the enchiladas. The service is sometimes slow(it SEEMS like they do not care) but the food is always a 5 star.

Used to love this place. Been to the one in Southie and Higham many times. Sadly it has gotten worse as of late. Went on a Friday night at 6:30 and place was half full. They had an acoustic guitar guy in the small space who was playing way to loud. He was also playing depressing songs for a Friday night after work crowd. Just seemed so out of place for a Mexican restaurant. The food was sub par and not what we used to get here. Got a Mexican dish and it came with white rice? The refried beans we watered down and cold. Also on a side note, my menu was very sticky and that is a turn off to me when it is the first thing you hold in the restaurant. I think this will be my last trip to Salsa’s

I’ve been there a few times. When they first opened it was great. Great food, service etc. The past two times my wife and I went there we stood at the door waiting minutes to be sat when there is only one person(the bar tender) working the whole entire restaurant. The guy was the most unfriendly person I have ever met in the restaurant business. The food however was good. We had to wait forever for everything and our appetizer came out with our food. I’m confident now that I had my last dining experience there and have since realized how much better Plaza Azteca is. I will be shocked if this place stays open another year. The restaurant is never busy. Update: it has since closed for good. Judging by the reviews it’s about time. The owner should just stick with the sausage guy.

Delicious from the skinny margarita to the guacamole and salsa starters to the shrimp fajitas. Also enjoyed were the veggie burrito and cheese quesadilla. Yum.

It’s been a while since I was here last. Looks like the menu was a little different and a few new items since I was here last. Inquired as to what was the difference between the Carne Asada and Tequila Carne dishes. Waiters response was different spices. Ended up with the Camarones a la Diabla which has great flavor however this time it was riddled with shells making it challenging to eat. The shrimps were not peeled properly. Last and final assult was that they ran our of rum. I had one rum and coke and when requested another I was told there was no more rum. At first I thought it was an April fools joke but soon realized it was not.

Went to salsas for the first time last night, the margaritas were great! Sadly the food wasn’t on par with the drinks. Ordered chicken enchiladas, and the chicken was dry. The sauce was like canned tomato sauce with a little bit of spice thrown in. The beans looked like the had been sitting out for a while. And although the server was nice, service was slow. I almost finished my meal before receiving the side of sour cream I asked for when the food was initially brought out. If I went here again, it would only be to drink. Taco Bell has better Mexican food :(

I rarely do this, but was driven to the point to email the restaurant, however since there is no email contact on their website, I guess they don’t want to hear what I have to say. I planned to meet my friend there for dinner and drinks after work on a Wednesday at about 7:00 pm, and arrived to maybe 4 tables full, and two people at the bar. I sat there for a good 5 minutes unacknowledged, not greeted, while the bartender chatted up his buddies at the bar. I looked around and noticed another couple with empty plates, waiting expectantly for their table to be cleared. Well no service for them either, apparently a basically empty restaurant is more than the staff can handle. I used to work in food service, and I am NOT demanding, especially if a place is busy. A «hey be right with you» would have gone A LONGWAY. Nope, he couldn’t be bothered and they were not busy. At one point he walked down to my end of the bar, «oh good now maybe I’ll get a menu» nope he was just flagging down the busboy, completely ignored me. With only TWO people at your bar there is NO reason to leave someone ungreeted, alone for 5 minutes. It was beyond rude, downright embarrassing, so I got up and left, met my friend in the parking lot and said«there is no way I am giving that place my business». I have been to Salsas in southie many times(see my other review from years ago!!), and it does a hell of a brisk business but I have never waited 30 seconds there to be greeted, let alone 5 minutes while the staff gabs it up. As I left I shrugged at the couple still waiting for their table to be cleared, they laughed and shrugged back. I now see why they’re promoting on groupon, certainly aren’t going to build a customer base treating people like that. Went down the street to HINGHAM beerworks, average food but at least they wanted our business and let us know it was appreciated!!!

I’ll start with the bad. We walked in at 7pm on a Friday night expecting a bit of a wait. There were some customers standing by the door looking lost, so we waiting for a bit before a host(or something) approached us and told us it’d be a few minutes. They didn’t have a «waiting list» or any sort of organized way to know who was waiting for a table. It wasn’t clear who was a server, host or bus boy. Everyone was just running around like chickens with their heads cut off. We ended up waiting about 20 minutes(as expected, no biggie). After we got sat(with no menus) we sat there for about 10 minutes before someone took our drink order, then waited another 10 minutes before we got our drinks. Then another 15 – 20 minutes before we could place our food. It seemed like there was one server running the whole restuarant with the help of a bus boy and host maybe? It was unclear. We ended up getting out of there at 9pm when all was said and done. The good: The server and bus boy were SUPER apologetic for the wait and the craziness. They probably apologized like 5 times, which was nice. I actually felt really bad for them. I’ve spent over 10 years in the service industry so I know what its like to be «in the weeds» just be completely over your head and having people not understand. It seems this restaurant has been run like that for a long time after reading the previous Unilocal reviews. They should probably hire more people or do something to fix that. Its not good customer service. The food was mediocre. My fish corn tacos were great, the salsa was delicious. The guacamole wasn’t very great and my boyfriends dish(enchiladas) was just okay. Needless to say, we will never go back. I’d rather go to El Sarape, get better service and food.

The good: The salsa was very good, a little bit of heat and was very fresh and seemed to be homemade. The chips were a little off taste, perhaps they were made in some less than fresh oil? I don’t know. It didn’t stop me from eating them! My friends ordered a pitcher of margaritas that was mostly ice, and informed the server who brought over a second almost full pitcher. My friends were very happy(we were a party of 7). I don’t drink margaritas, so no biggie for me. The service was good all night however. The not so good: my fajita was pretty bland, the meat particularly. Not a lot of cheese and I really didn’t feel great after the meal. The guacamole and sour cream were okay. All of my friends said their meals were okay, not bad, not great. I think for me, there are better places around for Mexican. This place is in a renovated Friendly’s and I kept looking around the place imagining where the to go line was, the tables, etc.

This place used to be great. Came here for the first time in about a year. Friday night at 8, bar was full. The dinner tables are strange mix of high tops and low tops and the hostess podium faces the wrong way so it was very unclear if you sit yourself or wait. Stood there for at least 10 minutes before the bartender had to yell across the room to one of the waitresses who was at a table with customers. As we sat and ate we watched this happen at least 5 more times, and several people left after a few minutes of standing there unnoticed. Inside is dirty, food was good, drinks were so-so. After we ate we decided to grab another drink at the bar and watch the last few minutes of the game. Women behind the bar was talking to some regulars 6 feet from me and failed to even look my way and by the time she did the game was over so we left. Terrible experience, and we certainly were not the only ones. What happened? This place used to be a great stop and now it’s only good if you want to waste your entire night on «okay» food and rude employees

Terrible Experience. August Saturday night and no one was working. They had 1 waiter taking care of the entire restaurant while the bar tender flirted with the bus boy. 45 minutes to get drinks 50 minutes to finally order. The owner finally showed up to help out however he never really offered an apology for the service. 3 torttillas with my fajitas and barely any cheese, i ordered extra and they never came. Its truly hard to find good mexican food!

I tried their chicken and steak fajitas tonight and they were delicious! The portion size could have fed two people easy. Although for the amount of meat they give you, they only offer three dinky tortillas, it’s almost comical. Their«salsa» is excellent and freshly made as well as their guacamole dip! Our waitress was very attentive. I’ll be coming back!

Well, almost 4 years later and we still come here sometimes. And here’s why, it’s super convenient and great to go with our one year old daughter. We have also come up with a system for ordering and we never deviate so we are never disappointed. Also, they have improved the quality of their chips. They’re thin and crispy and much more along the lines of what you expect to get at a Mexican restaurant. Their salsa has also improved a bit. However, I cannot say the same for the guacamole. We stick with the steak fajita. It’s good. You can’t really do anything to mess up a steak fajita. and, after having been at Plaza Azteca a few times recently, I’m glad Salsa’s isn’t too heavy on the salt. Juicy steak, nice veggies. I’m happy with it. Truly the best thing on their menu though is the Camarones a la Diabla appetizer. A large portion of shrimp sautéed in this incredibly spicy, incredibly flavorful chili sauce. Really good. They also do a pretty decent skinny margarita. Yes, Bethenny coined that tacky name but it’s basically just a margarita made with silver tequila, fresh lime juice(no sweetened mix), and a little soda water. While I don’t think this place will ever win any awards I’m glad it’s an option and I still find myself stopping in every now and again.

Quite a few people say that Salsa’s has a multiple personality — great one moment, awful the next. After quite a number of years coming here I can say that while this is true its truly you get what you pay for. I stick with the same meal each and every time — burrito and rarely have they screwed up the meal. I have tried other dishes in the past and have not been impressed — but the burrito has always been good and priced fairly.

Abhorrent. My(now) husband and I ordered our catering through Salsa’s for our wedding. We placed the order through the bartender a month prior, who spoke with the chef and he agreed to come in early on the 13th of July to get the order ready for us. My husband showed up at the agreed time the morning of the wedding to pick up the food, and no one was there. All doors were locked, just a single janitor was there cleaning the bathrooms. Awesome, Salsa’s. Really cool of you. No food on my wedding day. Got a call from a SERVER(shame on you, Salsa’s) an hour and a half later. Nobody had ever put in the ticket. Just straight up didn’t do it. I asked the girl for a manager, because I wasn’t about to scream at FOH staff that just walked into a mess. No manager. You guys just keep getting better and better. I was offered a gift card, it was at that point I almost lost it, but just said«I have no words» and hung up. Still nobody has contacted me, although at this point there’s really no reason to; nothing could possibly excuse this complete and total failure of a restaurant. I’ve never said this about any business before, but I really, truly hope that Salsa’s goes out of business. It’s a disgrace.
