Business Owner

Mario Martinez moved to the Inland Empire in 1989. He starting working in a small family restaurant as a dishwasher and worked his way up to becoming the Kitchen Manager. In 1992 he married Angelica (Angie). The Martinez family dreamed of one day opening their own café…In 2007 their dream came true and Mario and Angie opened

J & J Café. Their 3 children Jonathan, Joanna and Joshua became the inspiration of the name of their café, J & J. This small gem only has 12 tables and fits up to 40 people at a time. Angie served and managed the dining room while Mario ran the kitchen.

Breakfast skillet, two eggs draped out a mountain of potatoes cuts and chicken fried steak, smothered in gravy. Plus a biscuit on the side also covered in gravy. What a find! It’s sort of like a Mexican breakfast café, I was deciding between this and the chorizo. But it’s so hard to say no to some chicken fried! Cooked to order, perfectly laid out, no complaints. The fried steak, I would like a tad bit more crisp on the shell, nevertheless cooked well. Top notch gravy, some places tend to go soft on the gravy, but they put in a good combination of ingredients, good taste and not dried out.
Don’t get turned off by the location. Seems a bit bare and runny outside. Very friendly and attentive service, I look forward to dropping by again.

A few of us from work were in the neighborhood and were in the need of a great lunch. Unfamiliar with the area, we checked Unilocal and found J&J’s. We had high expectations, and we were not disappointed. Food was great, price was right, and the restaurant was small and cozy. The service was personable and home-​spun.
All of us got something totally different (skillet, Mexican, salad, and sandwich) and all were satisfied.
We got that great lunch we sought in the first place.

I have been coming to J & J’s Café ever since this owner opened … I have NEVER had a bad meal there. The owners and staff are always nice to be around. The food is so good and I tell everyone to go there… I love their soup also… You need to stop in and try out their food… Outside is not as good as it is inside… They are the best…
And they also cater better than anyone so far in the last 15 years I’ve been in Hemet. The food is always piping hot when catered and they are on time and serve an excellent meal…
