Zippy Shell

Extremely happy with everyone that I dealt with. Everything went smoothly from quoting to unloading. Made our cross country move easy. Refreshing to find a company who does what they promise!

Warning — the quote is based on over phone discussion with no actual walk through to determine size of containers needed. The «insurance» does NOT cover items that were packed incorrectly by the movers supplied by Zippy. The movers are not necessarily good ones — watch everything. Response time to emails and phone is slow. Billing is not clear. Discounts are just bait.
Concept is good but execution is below fair. Despite my concerns being relayed often, I had to order another shell at last minute to fit my furniture. The «free» movers broke several items and none were covered. You don’t get an itemized bill unless you demand it. They have your credit card so can charge whenever they want with no discussion. The move coordinator changes midway thru move. Scary experience…
If you care about your belongings, then don’t go for a discount move with zippy. Maybe a local self loaded move make sense with zippy.

Great experience and stored items for 6 months! Would highly suggest using zippy for long term storage. Hayward team was amazing and accommodating.

I was moving from San Francisco and needed storage while I travelled and decided where to move next. My items were stored for a total of 4 months.
The trailer arrived late on the first day– then the hitch would not come off the trailer. They were so late that I had to pay my movers for two hours that they didn’t have the shell and I had given myself a 6 hour grace period. So they were 8 hours late. I had to assist in removing the hitch from the truck. The trailer was also not locked or secured– so anyone could drive off with the trailer at any time. This was unacceptable. Especially in San Francisco.
Upon delivery (which was timely) my items were incredibly dusty and dirty. It was as if my whole container had been placed under a steel dust mill. Anything I didn’t wrap air tight was completely dirty. So disappointed with the whole thing. Would never recommend.
The security issue is huge by the way in urban environments– yes the pod inside is locked by you… but anyone can drive up with a truck and drive your stuff away. Terrible idea. A pod is much safer as they are much harder to steal.
Also had issues with them billing me correctly.

Great experience with Zippy Shell from start to finish! ordered one shell which we quickly filled. Called the local rep about getting a new shell and within 24 hours had a second one on my doorstep. Very professional drivers that provided tips on loading, weight distribution, etc.

They were great! Left the trailer the day before just as planned, picked up exactly when they said, and then delivered in 10 days. Super easy and helpful, coordinator Teryl was great. Excellent service, I couldn’t recommend them any higher!

Zippy shell was great to work with. They made a cross-​country move super easy. From the delivery of the shell to a month of free storage on the other end and a pickup when we were ready — all super seamless. Nicole, our coordinator was also very helpful. She was responsive, available and made the transition very easy.

Zippy Shell was a good experience for me. I got bounced around a little on the office phone system, but once I got to the right person, everything worked out. Delivery was prompt and right where I wanted it. Cory the driver was prompt, thoughtful, and gave me a good rundown of how the system works.
It is a good alternative to a storage unit or other storage systems.

Great customer service. They were able to come out with less than 1 week notice. So far only had the initial drop off & pick up prior to the move. I’ll store my belongings for a couple of months & then have them dropped off post move & anticipate another smooth experience. This is for the Zippy Shell out of Hayward, CA & the driver was Cory — super personable, professional & helpful. All the staff I’ve spoken to on the phone have been the same. :-)

I had nothing but a great experience with Zippy Shell! I stumbled upon them by Unilocal reviews after the other company had no more pods. With all the great reviews I had really nothing to lose. From the customer service to the emails to the text/​phone calls for pick up, their customer service was superb! If anyone asks, I will highly recommend their service. Keep up the great work !!!

I previously posted a nice review on the Zippy Shell location in Colorado Springs, CO — as that is where my friends move originated from, so this will be ‘the second (nice) review’ I’ve posted on Zippy Shell. While the national reservation call center/​office can be a bit arduous to communicate and follow up with, I can’t say enough GOOD/​NICE/​YAHOO in regards to the two LOCAL franchise operations I’ve had contact with…
Specifically for this review — Don Lee (the owner of the Hayward, CA location), was personable, professional, communicative, and available in person and via his cell phone for any questions or concerns I had… Phil, his on-​site coordinator that I also met and communicated with several times, was always professional and VERY accommodating, and made everything in our two-​container move ‘go smoothly on the delivery end’. Bruce and Bruce Jr., the delivery drivers (and both nice guys), communicated to us their delivery and pick-​up eta’s — so we weren’t sitting around aimlessly… (Upon my prior unannounced on-​site visit to the MASSIVE Hayward Zippy Shell warehouse, the warehouse manager even knew the EXACT location of our two containers!)
I’d give the Hayward-​Zippy-​Team ‘TOP MARKS’ for Customer Service and Overall Performance, and I would like to publicly say THANK YOU — for all your help during this stressful (moving) time!

Based on my moving experience with this company, I couldn’t recommend their services. However, I will say that the company did respond to my customer service letter and refunded all of my money.
Zippy Shell did not perform well on any aspect of my move. From showing up over four hours late to inexperienced drivers that would not drive up my street, the move was really a disaster. If the move out wasn’t bad enough the move in was even worse. The last straw was that my second container was delivered to my old address. Not only was the delivery already late, but the company couldn’t even get the new address correct. I personally had the worst move of my life with this company. If you’re moving within San Francisco ask this company lots of questions before making a decision.

I’m always skeptical when I see so many 4 and 5 star reviews for a business… surely there must be some gaming of the system going on here. Well, I took the plunge anyway and rented a shell for 3 months while we were doing some remodeling. They delivered the empty shell right when I needed it, no hassle there. I loaded it up, and they picked it up as agreed… all too easy. We’re ready to move back in the house now, and they were able to return my stuff right when I was ready, all safe and sound in the shell just as I had left it.
The people that work for Zippy are great. Super nice, friendly folks who just know what they are doing and get the job done. Responsive on phone and emails. Moving and storing stuff is such a stressful thing to deal with, it’s great that Zippy Shell did absolutely nothing to add to that stress… in fact I’d say they alleviated a lot of stress for us. Believe all the stars, these folks are great.

Did a up the coast move from san diego to San Francisco and talked to about 7 different companies. They had the best price but most importantly they had fantastic costumer service. I had an awesome Rep and they even gave me her Cell number in case of an emergency.
The drivers were great dropping off and picking up the shell. (note: had a couple issues with timing but nothing I would worry about as they fixed the issue within a couple hours of me calling in. Again, awesome costumer service).
The Shell was Huge and fit everything we had.
Use these guys! Super easy to use and will work around the clock to make you happy and have a good experience.

I wanted to add a second update. I was surprisingly touched to receive a personal apology note from Chris. He explained that there were issues beyond his control affecting his work. I appreciated his acknowledgement and the time he took to write a personal letter. I would recommend this company because, even if you have an issue, they will work hard to remedy it. The service, as mentioned in my first post, is also good.

Unlike a lot of companies they actually paid attention, I was emailed an actually reply not a canned response which is what you usually get and then was called by the CEO who apologized and is working on the problem.
I’m impressed and would use them again.

Using Zippy Shell was the best thing I could have done to make my move go as easy and affordable as possible!
I first started off by running into one of their adds online (courtesy of Google ads on a random web page I was on). I had been shopping around and looking at PODS and Door-​to-​Door for my recent move as I was going to have to store my stuff for a week as I moved between San Jose and Brisbane. I had been leaning towards Door-​to-​Door as they were cheaper and I could fit my stuff in about two of their containers. Come to find out during that search that those pods need city permits and they cost you a pretty penny to get them. I clicked the ad I found and I filled out the form to get a quote. I ended up getting just general quote information so I was ready to keep looking. But… I get a call (on a Sunday morning) about 30 mins after submitting the online request and it was one of their sales representatives out of some call center on the East Coast. I was very skeptical at first but in talking with the rep he mentioned all the benefits in that I did not need any permits (the storage cage is delivered to you for 3 days in a wheeled trailer), they would take my container once filled to a secure facility and store for how ever long I needed, and best of all they beat the price I had been looking at by 50%! I put my credit card down (but wasn’t charged) to hold the «special» pricing he was offering me which would have been for a whole month storage (even though I only needed one week) and it was risk free and could cancel at any time. The container was about $ 200 and each delivery (1 for drop-​off/​pick-​up at old location, 1 for drop-​off/​pick-​up at new location) was $ 75. They also offered me moving blankets for dirt cheap and lock rental if needed.
When I went ahead to book them and schedule my exact moving dates they were more than responsive and accommodating (note that you do have to speak to the representative back in East Coast for this process, but they are very responsive both via phone and e-​mail). The most impressive part of the scheduling was their attention to detail. I had confirmed with them that my container would park perfectly in front of my old complex but that the streets were a bit narrow and had no curb at my new location. They did a Google Street view of my new address and determined that the driver would have to do a «sit and wait» drop-​off due to my street constraints, which was offered at no additional charge or fee; I was very pleased that they were willing to accommodate my difficult situation (something I’m sure the pod people would not have done for free).
When it came time to receive my Zippy Shell, Billy (the driver) was more than helpful. He called to let me know he would be arriving near the end of my delivery window due to some mechanical problems at warehouse and he did arrive on time as communicated. He walked me through the shell and advised on how to load it and left the trailer in a very well located spot. The container itself is a metal/​wood base with mesh steel all around, very sturdy. It is placed and stored inside the «shell» or trailer and is no hassle to load since the «shell» comes with a sturdy loading ramp, did all the loading myself (with the exception of the huge stuff like mattress) in a day for a large condo. The trailer also locks on the outside for when you are leaving it out on the street overnight so no need to worry about anyone opening and looking at your stuff (note that you must lock only your container on the inside once you are done as the inner container gets pulled out, wrapped, and stored in the warehouse once they pick it up). I finished filling my container on a Tuesday night and one of Billy’s other drivers called me bright and early the next day to let me know he was picking up my container that morning (he followed-​up call to let me know it was at the warehouse); no need to be there during pick-​up.
Move-​in day was even better! Billy was once again my driver and I called him same day (Saturday morning) to see if he could deliver earlier (3 hours before my original window) and he said he was on his way. He arrived as I had requested and was very detailed oriented as he called to ask for details about my street situation before even attempting to pull-​in. My team of unloaders had the container emptied out in 30 mins and that was that!
I highly recommend using Zippy Shell for your next move. Affordable, Secure, and EASY!!!
