Hi-Tech Termite Control of the Bay Area

We have used Hi-​Tech years ago, and were very satisfied.
We contacted Hi-​Tech when we recently noticed sawdust collecting in our sun-​room.
After a quick chat, and a quick picture of the sawdust, Hi-​Tech quickly responded
and advised that it’s not termites, but carpenter ants or bees, and that we needed
general pest control instead. Very friendly and helpful folk!

Appreciate the free tips! Certainly putting educating customers ahead of just doing business. That’s a winning attitude: if I were to need the service, I will choose them.

My experience with HiTech has been outstanding. My realtor used Specialty Inspection in Pleasanton. Specialty found no termite and only dry rot. They wanted over $ 14k to do the work. Hi Tech only charged $ 5k to do the work. Since my realtor was not informed to put in the sales contract that Specialty did not have to reinspect the work, Hi Tech and I were at the mercy of Specialty on their reinspection. Jonathan Van Hoy did the inspections. After Hi Tech replaced the dry rotted wood and patched the smaller dry rot areas, Jonathan came back and created dents in the new wood and those areas repaired. Hi Tech had to redo the work caused by Jonathan twice. Jonathan is unethical and I will file a complaint against him. Hi Tech redid the repairs without charging extra. That is why Hi Tech is Diamond Certified and Specialty is not.

Hi Tech was great for us. I called several more local termite companies and they were booked up. Hi tech was able to squeeze us in a short time frame as we entered escrow and our clock was running on 5 days. The could not access under the house as the crawl space needed modification and were able to come back the next day at no charge. They even sent me a report from each visit, which was quite helpful. Thank you for taking us on short notice and doing a thorough job.

Hi-​Tech just completed a perimeter treatment at my house and the whole experience was great. Termite issues started when I went into the garage one evening and found termites swarming around the lights. The next day we discovered escape tubes in the driveway in front of the house and my wife saw a mass migration of subterranean termites flying from the ground at dusk.
I called 3 companies to come to my house to take a look and provide a recommendation and cost. Hi-​Tech did the most thorough inspection of the companies (Ben did the inspection) and went into the attic and crawl space. He also checked the garage, roof eaves, and other likely places. Hi-Tech’s estimate was very fairly priced, lower than one company and the same as another, but it also included scraping/​spraying the exposed beams in the crawl space with a preventative treatment since some tubes were found on one of the beams.
Hi-​Tech answered all my questions, called to remind me of the inspection and treatment appointments, and showed up on time for both. Both the inspector and applicator were very respectful of my house and wore boot protectors when inside and cleaned up. The applicator was very professional too, answered my questions, and worked diligently.
Having read the horror stories from other posts I was worried about the whole experience, but it turned out to be very positive.

One of the worst things as a homeowner is finding termites in your home, but Hi-​Tech termite showed us that it didn’t have to be the end of the world. First, they were able to come out for an inspection almost immediately, and when Terrence arrived, he was professional, informative, honest, and punctual; he arrived when the receptionist said he was going to and he did not pressure us at all after the inspection (which is always a plus, and what turned us off from other companies). Hi-​Tech also offered us the best price and warranty and the tech that came to do the treatment for our house was also very courteous, professional and really respected our home (as far as being really careful with his equipment, our floor, and furniture); he also clearly knew what he was doing. We’ve contacted a good amount of other companies and we couldn’t be happier with our decision to go with Hi-​Tech!

I bought a condo and my pest inspection showed termite activity on deck. My hoa engaged hi tech for a condo wide inspection and treatment. I recently called out and was with the hi tech inspector as he did additional treatment to my deck and a few others. His level of patience and completeness with the work was very assuring. My condo has a 2 yr contract with hitech and i am pleased as they seem very honest, professional and trustworthy. Personally, i am glad Miguel is assigned out condo!:-)

When we purchased our house, the home inspection report said there was some termite and beetle damage to take care of and we decided to call someone who only focused on that service. Hi Tech came out and did the inspection which was fantastic and actually told us that we didn’t need to do the extensive repairs that the inspection report wanted — they were already done, just not cleaned up right!
From the termite treatment to the repairs done due to fungus & termites, Hi Tech did an amazing job. They earned our trust by being honest with us and not seeing a new home owner as a way to pad their wallet which is refreshing! The guys who came out and did the inspections & work were professional, friendly and gave you the sense that they were doing the same type of work on your house as they would do on their own.
I cannot recommend them enough — they have made us customers for life!

I live in a house with past termite damage and a past comprehensive chemical treatment. After seeing swarming termites on the roof I called for an inspection. Hi tech did a good inspection, showed and shared knowledge, and concluded there was no evidence of an active interior infestation.
That’s rare in the termite world. Usually these companies seem to figure if you have a house and money, you need termite chemicals and a service plan. The guy from the «big name» company did exactly that the day before.
When I do have a need, I’ll consider Hi-​Tech first.

Great Service! I was referred to Hi-​Tech by my Real Estate Agent, and I couldn’t have been more pleased with the service. We needed an inspection on a home we are purchasing, and we needed it right away. No problem, with Hi-​Tech, my Agent called and got an appointment for the following day (plus, I got a sweet deal by using their Unilocal coupon!). The inspector was there right on time, was very knowledgeable and courteous. What I appreciated most about the service was he took the time to explain to me in detail, what he was doing and what he was able to find. He got our report completed and back to us the following afternoon, we were able to remove the inspection contingency from our contract 2 days early!

Not possible to have had a better experience — from start to finish.

Termite inspections are a fact of life out here, and I’ve found the service I’ll be using for my periodic inspections going forward.

I had this company did the termite inspection of my house via my real estate agent because I was selling that house and needed an official report, cheaply.
(I already know there were no termites from previous report from 4 months ago.)
However, not only they did termite inspection, they also used a metal pole and ram into section of roof, and for some reason, the wall as well… just to check for dry rot.
Now, I had already done a house inspection a week earlier and know about minor dry rot and so does the buyer, whom he didn’t care. But because of the extensive numbers of holes this «inspection» created, The buyer agent had me repair the issue. So I had to more money spend on a house that I was already losing money on. It also I delay my sale for 4 days and I end up also have to paid extra for utilities.
Needless to say I will not hire this company again.
Beside, I ask for a TERMITE inspection, not a house inspection. And This company was called Hi tech TERMITE control; not poke-​a-​hole and check for mold and rots.
Please stick to your original jobs and not do «extra work» that benefit only your company.

[Updates] After I posed review on Unilocal,hi-​tech termite emailed me that ««If you provide the tiles, I will provide the labor to install them (up to 50 tiles). If you have extra stored somewhere, then it won’t cost you a dime». I agreed because I thought there were about 10~30 roof clay tiles broken. In fact, I gave the lower estimate because I didn’t climb on roof to count and just looked from yard ground. They sent their workers for installing new tiles then told me there were much more tiles broken during fumigation. So I bought more clay tiles and they came again. Finally, there were over 80 pieces roof clay tiles broken during fumigation, I paid over $ 400 for purchasing the tiles. I felt I paid too much so asked $ 200 for reimburse. But they thought I changed the agreement and refused. I argued that all agreements were based on minimal damages of roof and now major damages found. They still refused. I am not happy, but anyway thanks for their workers’ help to install the tiles.
[Original post on Sept. 2015] Just warning: if you want fumigation service but also want to protect your roof please don’t ask this company. In August 2015, they did fumigation and sub-​termite control services for my house. Their free inspection was good and the inspector worked hard. However, they hired unprofessional people to do the fumigation (climbing on your roof and cover the whole house and release gas to kill pest). Before the fumigation, they asked you to sign a form to waive their responsibility if the roof was damaged during fumigation and they told you that they would do their utmost to ensure damage is kept to a minimum. Unfortunately, the fume person was not professional and didn’t prepare any material such as a board on the roof to protect your tiles. He just stepped on the clay tiles and broke the tiles, then told you that your tiles were so fragile. After fumigation, many clay tiles on my roof (at least 10 pieces) were broken. They said they would minimize the damage in the waiver form but during working they didn’t. In a word, because you signed the waiver form, it looked like they did not care how many tiles were damaged on customer’s roof.

Completely dishonest. I would not recommend this company to anyone.
The service person (Ben ?) came on time which is about the only positive thing I can say. I don’t know if it’s because I’m a woman but he completely lied to my face about what he found and what he wrote on his report. My house is brick, so there is minimal wood and not much that he had to inspect. I asked him if there was any termite damage, and he said no, «NO TERMITE DAMAGE AT ALL, ONLY WOOD ROT.» Imagine my surprise when I got my report and *tada* termite damage is listed on the report.
He also added in other things on the report that he felt needed to be fixed, especially roof items. The funny thing is that we just had a roofer come out and some of the things Ben quoted were completely unnecessary. Why lie bro? When I had him get on the phone with my husband, he told him the same thing, NO TERMITE DAMAGE and that he would write up an estimate for all the unnecessary repairs he wanted to do. He started the conversation out with «I will work up an estimate for the work» before he even began to tell my husband about the crap he came up with. Clearly he saw us as a way to make some easy money because he totally padded his report.
The last thing that really bothers me is that he wore his dirty boots all over my house. Didn’t even bother to put on protective foot covers. My daughter crawls on our floors. He had a complete disregard to our home. I shouldn’t have to ask a «professional» to cover his shoes.
I don’t know how this company is diamond certified and now I know why they have to sell Unilocal deals to get business. We hired them to do a termite inspection and we got a whole lot of b.s. instead. Dishonesty is a horrible way to run their business.

We got a pest inspection from them back in August for a house that we were in the process of buying. Today, I saw their truck speeding in the far right lane so that reminded me to write this review.
I really don’t have anything positive to write about them so let me jump straight to the issues.
1. They were relatively expensive for inspection but we still hired them primarily based on their Unilocal rating.
2. After the inspection, the inspector didn’t give us any verbal information. He just said «so yeah… everything looks good, we’ll submit a quote». We knew from the seller’s inspection report that there was around $ 15K worth of termite treatment and damage repair.
3. The report came late. After urging them to send it quickly because we were under pressure to close on the house, their staff started to get arrogant.
4. The report came just in time but identified «woodboring beetles» and recommended the long version of tenting which would cost almost $ 3000. After purchasing the house, we got two more inspections and both confirmed that we had no woodboring beetles. The lumber that was used in construction had beetles when it was on the tree. High-Tech’s inspector misidentified the pest possibly because he was not experienced enough.
5. High-Tech’s report had highlighted that tenting/​fumigation for «woodboring beetles» was needed but there was no other mention of this. I called the inspector, who got back to me two days later admitting the mistake in the report. They sent us a new report stating that beetle damage was found.
Overall, I think they are not competitively-​priced, have inexperienced inspectors who do not conduct a through inspection, and do not communicate well with the customer.
Unilocal ratings are occasionally deceptive, and Hi-​Tech is an example.
