Drinks and food were good but place seemed understaffed. Bartender who was very nice was running around doing everything which really slowed down our service. The other thing I didn’t like was the karaōke, no explanation needed there. Probably won’t go back.

I went to Moonshiners with a friend, and I wasn’t expecting much. From the outside it looks like a completely unassuming hole in the wall old man/locals bar. To be honest, I’m not a fan of those types of places generally and I don’t really anticipate high quality food and drinks from them. But wow, the food was phenomenal! I had a catfish poboy with a side of fries, a moonshine mojito, and a very tall, very cheap whiskey ginger. The sandwich was $ 9, mojito was $ 4.50, and the mixed drink was $ 3. The fish was done exceptionally well, the mojito was delicious, and the whiskey ginger was tall, cheap, and strong. The tomatoes and lettuce on my sandwich were crisp and fresh, and there was this really great sauce on it – maybe a mix of mayo and hot sauce. The fries were limp, but that’s my only criticism of the food. My friend had a smothered beef burrito – another surprise, as I was not expecting there to be a page of Mexican entrees on the menu. Speaking of the menu, it’s primarily Cajun, with lots of chicken, beef, and fish. I am a vegetarian who occasionally eats fish(a pescatarian, if you want to be a snot about it), so luckily I was able to find something. I would not recommend strict vegetarians and definitely not for vegans. Prices range from about $ 8-$ 16 per dish. There’s a page for regular pub food(burgers, fries, wings, etc.) in addition to the Cajun and Mexican dishes. We went on a Wednesday, which was apparently Biker Night. There was a pretty respectable crowd and the parking lot was nearly full(though on non-event nights my friend said it is usually pretty empty). A classic rock cover band was playing, and the event calendars on the walls looked pretty extensive to me. I don’t know if this is standard, but there was no waitress that night and we placed all our orders at the bar, despite sitting at a table. While the bar tender was quick, I do have to take off one star because of that. I’m lazy, sorry. Your food will also take a while to make. I believe we waited 30ish minutes. There is a sign on the wall that says their kitchen takes some time, so you’re officially not allowed to complain at that point in time because you’re aware. I’m definitely going to go back. This place was a pleasant surprise.

Started with the black bean dip. It was ok. Add some Crystals hot sauce and it made it much better. Next course was a Jambalaya Po Boy. Not to shabby. Lots of stuffing for the bun. Once again a little Crystal Hot Sauce to kick it up a notch and it was a good inexpensive meal. Good selection of draft beer. It’s Wednesday night and bike night. Band was setting up so later would probably be pretty good. I travel for a living and would recommend the place. Much better than a TGIF or Applebee’s. Both bartender’s were friendly and prices were reasonable. Food is homemade so it is a little slow getting it, but nothing to complain about. Enjoy.

Oh– what a disappointment:(my husband and I were really excited to try Moonshiners, since spending last Christmas in NOLA. We are on a quest to find great creole & Cajun cuisine here in WNY. We went to Moonshiners on a Tuesday night around 730pm. When we got there, there were about 10 people seated at the bar just having drinks. No one was sitting at the tables having dinner. We decided to just sit at the bar. The friendly bartender came over, we asked her for Abita(a beer that is brewed in NOLA) she never heard of it! REALLY! First strike. So we started with the black bean dip as an app, it was good. After finishing, we placed the rest of our order. At this time it was 8:15pm, I ordered the catfish PoBoy and my husband ordered the mufalatta sandwich. Two SANDWICHES! And no one else eating and only about 6 people now at the bar– we received our sandwiches at 8:45pm. It took a half hour for 2 sandwiches! We were really disappointed in that. Strike 2. The food was just okay. Nothing special. We have had better PoBoys at Dick and Jenny’s and Chester’s, the mufalatta was kind of dry. Strike 3. They get 2 stars because the bartender was nice and the bathrooms were very clean. Sorry to say– we will not be back.

Who knew I could get delicious Louisiana style food in Hamburg? I’ve only been once but I’ll be back for sure! The owners and staff were very friendly and the food was great. I tried the red beans and rice because I was afraid the gumbo wouldn’t rival my mom’s authentic recipe, but the red beans and rice convinced me that the chef knows what he’s doing. I’m excited to return and continue tasting the menu. Moonshiners also has multiple televisions and a projection screen we watched a Sabres game on and after the game on the Sunday I was there, they had a live band! What a fun time!

If you enjoy cajun and New Orleans style cuisine this new pub has an awesome selection of food not available anywhere else in town. Good prices, plenty of drink specials and live music throughout the week. Have gone back a number of times already!

I like spice, but just the right amount. Moonshiners has just that in their Gumbo, Jambalaya and Green Chili! Many choice on the menu, I’m in love with the deep fried green beans and the street tacos. Good selection of imported beers and beer on tap. My favorite Magic Hat and Blue Moon along with a many other choices. BIG projection TV, sports fans, I need not say more!

Great New Orleans style food in the middle of Hamburg, NY where every other pub serves wings & fingers(which they also serve to those less adventurous). Big projection screen for all the Sabres & Bills lovers and awesome live music a couple nights a week. LOVED the fresh ingredients in the steak street tacos & the chicken-n-Chilis is to die for! Gumbo, Jambolya, Bayou Shrimp bisque… mmmmmm!
