Specialties

We love to show people ‘the real Maui’, rather than just give them a plastic yet-another-hotel experience. We love travelling ‘off the beaten path’ a little ourselves and Huelo Pt Lookout has that distinctive feel, yet it’s close enough to ‘town’ to find a grocery store and great restaurants a mere 15 minute drive away.

We’re on Maui’s north shore, definitely a little away from the tourist crowds. Yet Maui is small enough so that you can get to the furthermost point of the island in only an hour and a half. Our location is ideal for exploring the whole island — we’re half way between Hana and Lahaina … and it’s only an hour and a bit up to the summit of our dormant volcano, Mt Haleakala, at 10,000 feet.

And let’s not forget why everyone comes here … the OCEAN … and yes, the coconut palms … and all the luscious tropical colors, warm waters and trade winds. Maui has it all. Oooh … and before I forget … our property has been organic since we bought it in 1992.

Maui No ka oi! (Maui — the best!)

and the same for Huelo Pt Lookout B&B … we’ve been a romantic hideaway retreat/vacation rental since 1997 …

History

Established in 1997.

Previously, our property was a macadamia nut farm. But by the time we acquired in, in 1992, there were only five mac nut trees left as the rest had been destroyed by the strong salty winds. Over the years we’ve planted windbreaks and we now have an orchard of mangoes, avocados, bananas and citrus.

We’ve always loved smaller style accommodations and our property seemed to lend itself to this style. It definitely has a casual, get-away-from-it-all feel. And here we are, 2014 … and we’re still here and loving Maui!

Meet the Business Owner

Sharyn S.

Business Owner

I was born in Brisbane, Australia, too long ago to remember … educated at the University of Queensland where I became a speech therapist, then moved on to radio announcing and theatre (my first loves). Met Jeff, my husband, in San Francisco … and persuaded him to move a little more in my direction — i.e. west … i.e. to Hawaii, in 1992 and we’ve been here ever since. We host the WWOOF program (Willing Workers on Organic Farms), so you’ll often see young people working in the orchards and the B&B with us. We also have a now-18 year old son, Kai (that means «Ocean Wave» in Hawaiian). He was born on Maui.
