My wife and I(32&38 — business director and surgeon) stayed at the Cliff’s Edge Bali cottage for 8 days, and we are leaving today — in short, it’s an amazing and beautiful location and the hosts are simply wonderful. I have to state, the D.C. review is extremely negative — do not use this review. View the reviews on Trip-Advisor and you’ll see a true representation of the property. My wife and I both agree, we would come back and bring friends! We are an adventurous couple, and after seeing the resorts in Lahaina, we were so glad we chose the Cliff’s Edge Bali cottage. Yes, if you leave the screen door cracked, a few small beetles will pop in and hang out(the most we ever counted was 5 on the first night… because WE left the screen door slightly open)… but they were gone by morning and completely harmless. We also had a visiting Gecko, which was actually fun — read up on this, they are respected and welcomed guests in Maui and we loved ours. Maui is tropical… and at the Bali cottage you are not only surrounded by an amazing cliffside view of the ocean but tropical wild-life and plants too. So obviously, you should not expect a resort setting. If you want a resort, go with the masses to Lahaina — if you want something unique, amazing and truly romantic… try the Cliff’s Edge. My wife and I both vouch for it… but again, we love more than just a simple hotel room — we love our own place while on vacation. :-) Many thanks to the hosts. Tips while here: The cottage is right on the ‘road to Hana’… and many of the must see locations are close. Rent a jeep or other rugged vehicle — there are a couple of bumpy roads in the local area. See the sunrise on the Volcano… the hidden waterfalls… the Red Sand beach… the needle… the lava beach… you’ll love it all!

Bed and Breakfast? The three of us decided to stay at this place for the entire duration of our trip in Maui. I had stayed at vacation rentals and other Bed and Breakfast facilities before while visiting Hawaii. I must say this was quite an experience… I was somewhat suspicious about the pictures on the website. The pictures on the website had spectacular views of the ocean. I must say they look just perfect. To be fair, the place needs a lot of work. Caution: wash everything, and make sure your screen is shut tight. Otherwise, you will see bugs emerging out of the walls or something. The kitchen ceiling and walls were covered wih black beetles on our last night there! It looked like a science fiction movie or something from nature channel! Honestly, if not for the view, we wouldn’t have endured this place for this long. Comfort is also important, and come on, its Hawaii… no matter where you go the view is just breath taking. My advice… if the price is reasonable to you, take it but I would stay just for a night or two… definitely not a week.
