Rollins Lakeside Inn Resort

I recently attended a meditation retreat in Grass Valley and I thought it would be nice to stay by the lake. Rollins Lakeside Inn had plenty of good reviews so I decided to give it a try.
When I booked my reservation, I notified the clerk that I would be arriving after dark (it was 6pm when I arrived). This place is located off the beaten path and far from street lights. When I finally found it, the entire place was pitch black. Not a single light was turned on. The office was locked and dark. Mind you, the hotel is at the end of a dirt road out in the country so once the sun sets, it get really dark, really fast. I felt like I had pulled up to the Bates Hotel. I have never felt more unwelcome to any hotel in my life. There was a note taped to the office door with a phone number… I called the number. No answer. As I was turning my car around to leave, I got a call back. The kind sounding woman on the phone apologized for forgetting to turn the front lights on and told me my cabin was #2 and that I could let myself in… the door was unlocked. Since cabin #2 was only two doors down from the office, I was able to find it in the dark.
If I had had time to drive in to town and find another room without being late to my event, I would have. As it turned out, I only had enough time to change clothes and get back in the car.

When I returned, my «cabin» was freezing cold. A small room heater was positioned in the center of the room but it did little to warm the space. My bed had one lightweight blanket on it (in November) so I had to strip the blanket and bedspread from the other bed in order to stay warm. It felt a little like I was camping.
I’ve never written a bad review for anything in my life. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

Have been coming to the Inn with my co-​workers and their families for a «bonding retreat» for about 17 years. Clearly we have always enjoyed it since we keep coming back but it really great since Jim & Debbie have taken over! We have seen the improvements happen every year and can’t wait to see what’s new from year to year. They are so gracious and fun and we are always happy when they join in with our good time! Beautiful lake, always a good time!

Just got back from a long 4^th of July Weekend, Had a great time Debbie and Jim are awesome host and owners, Made our stay so nice, Provided bags of Ice for sale which can me handy every day, Our family has not stayed for a couple of years and was really nice to come back and see all the NEW improvements. I would highly recommend this place for family or friend gatherings. Will be BACK!

Our extended family rented out four cabins for Memorial Weekend. We fell in love with this place! The cabins are nothing fancy, but they are spacious and comfortable! The website doesn’t do this place justice. They provide all the linens and towels and have every kitchen and cooking tool, pan, appliance, etc. that you need available in a stock room where you can go and help yourself to what you need! Very convenient! As everyone has noted, the hosts are more than accommodating and very friendly. The walk to the lake is a little steep but it was a great place with lots to do, even if you never go out on the lake. Huge grassy area with badminton net and horseshoe pit for kids and adults to play. Beautiful flagstone patio area with picnic benches, trellis, and fire pit where the hosts made us a large fire for roasting marshmallows. Live band played and we all (even the kids) enjoyed dancing! The next night they hosted an outdoor movie night with a big screen and blankets and chairs out on the grass by the pool and let the kids pick the movie. The hosts even made popcorn for everyone to enjoy. Pool is heated but still refreshing and overall just a beautiful setting to enjoy!

We stayed January 26^th and 27^th which I am sure is off season. I needed a place close to Colfax where we could stay with our dogs. Some «dog friendly» places shy away from two 100lbs dogs. No penalty. We looked at boarding the dogs, but I spoke with Debbie on the phone, and she was very accomodating. What a beautiful location! Rollins Lakeside Inn will be our new go-​to for visiting family in Colfax. We will also put it on our short list for breaking up the drive on future snow trips or Reno Trips. I will bet this place is really hopping in the summer months! Everyone we met was very nice, and the whole place has a relaxed friendly atmosphere. When we arrived they had the refridgerator on (and cold) and the heater on, so the Cabin was warm. Our dogs are kennel trained and there was plenty of space for thier two portable kennels. The parking next to Cabin 5 accomodated my Tahoe and my 8×10 small trailer, although the turn-​around is tight and I would not recomment a trailer without checking in advance. Walking the dogs in the evening, and early morning, I ran accross multiple deer. One evening we saw about six down by the lake, and one morning about 10 right on the road by the swimming pool. The fire pit and recreation area’s have nice views of the lake. The access road is perfect for walking the dogs with plenty of room to stay out of the way if the rare car happens along. The cabin was exactly what we needed. 15 Minutes from downtown Colfax. Cosy, Clean, plenty of towels, everything worked, nothing leaked, excellent service, and everything pretty much picture perfect as advertised.

What a great place to stay with friends and family. Just stayed there for the first time Memorial Day weekend. We had a 2 bedroom cabin that was plenty big enough for the 4 adults and 4 kids. The cabins are small, but you’re not there to hang out inside anyway. Great location right up little hill from the lake. No dock for boats, but they do have places to tie up. The owners Jim and Debbie could not have been nicer or more accommodating. Jim actually went and got his patio boat so he could take us on a tour of the lake when he learned that none of us had ever been to the lake before. Totally above and beyond as far as being a host. Big group fire pit with plenty of seating made for a nice end to the day with all of the other guests. Kid and pet friendly. You can park right next to the cabins, but if you have a big truck or car be careful backing out. BBQ in front of every cabin with a table and chairs so you can eat outside. I would totally go back, but not without a boat. They have a pool, and a rock painting area for the kids which was a really nice touch.

This place was great. The area was beautiful. Our room (#5) was clean, neat and had everything we needed for our 2 day stay. There was enough room for 3 adults, 3 kids and a new born. There was a space right next to the room to pull into, so you didn’t have to lug all your bags and things far. There was a BBQ right in front of the room and a table with chairs for outdoor eating or activities. The kids really enjoyed painting rocks. There is an area were you can sit and decorate rocks with paints. They staff was more they friendly. They treat you like family. I will be back for sure.

I’m pretty sure the cabin we stayed in was haunted.
On night 1 of 2, two people heard what sounded like a dog walking around our cabin. The person who slept out on the living room pull-​out not only heard the pitter-​patter and the breathing, but felt something jump up onto the bed only to disappear after he mumbled, «It’s okay, boy.» The footsteps then disappeared.
Not «ran off.»
«Disappeared.»
There were no open points of entry in this cabin. Because it was cold and rainy outside, all windows and doors were tightly shut.
That night, the interior temperature was hovered around 62° despite all efforts to warm the place using an oil heater, an open oven, and an electric stove.
The second night, which was just as cold as the first outside, the temperature stayed at a more-​comfortable 67° with the identical efforts. Nothing was heard that couldn’t be explained by other means, although we did all have nightmares involving animals.
On the important stuff, the management seems to be friendly and helpful. We didn’t ask about the ghost dog, but we wonder if we’re the only ones it may have happened to. Rates are reasonable and the location is nice, although we weren’t there to enjoy the lake. Wi-​Fi is pretty weak.
I’d totally go back though — not by myself, but I’d go back!

My cousins have been spending a week every year with a small «herd» of their friends at Rollins Lake for almost twenty years. They always stay at Rollins Lakeside Inn which is a kind of mini resort with lake access for their boats and jet skis. I occasionally come up for a day or two to enjoy plenty of jet skiing, beer drinking, barbecuing, sunning by the pool, and great friendship.
The resort consists of two rows of mini cabins with a volley ball court and a swimming pool, all with a beautiful view of the lake. The cabins are one bedroom units that can sleep up to six people. Each one has a kitchen and a small bath with a shower. Some of them have been fixed up over the years and are pretty comfortable inside.
There isn’t a boat ramp so you have to put your boats in the water at the state park and then drive them over and bank them by the resort. It is a little rough walking down the hill from the cabins to the lake but the new owners have a golf cart to assist those that find the trek too hard. There isn’t a dock and it can be a little treacherous going down the bank to get to the boats however the new owners are planning on putting in a new dock that would help to make this location a lot more enticing.

Location is stunning.
The owners and on site managers were really friendly and attentive.
The facility is old, but very comfortable, and if you want to get a away and relax, this is a perfect option.
We will be back.

Rollins lakeside Inn Resort is the place to stay if your going to Rollins lake. About five miles outside Colfax off Colfax Highway. The turns are clearly marked with square blue signs once you turn onto Orchard Springs Rd (on the right a little after the Chicago Park store). Watch out for slow bumps on Orchard Springs and Spring Valley Dr, despite being clearly marked with little yellow signs they can still take you by surprise.
There’s limited reception once you turn off Colfax Highway, so if your a check in fanatic due so before going any further!
The lake is a short walk from the resort, a great place to take out your jet skis or a boat. If your lucky you might just spot a wizard on a jet ski haling ass. The resort owns a house boat which you can rent out, if anyone in your group has difficultly walking up and down the hill the owner of the resort will haply drive them in his golf cart.
To entertain the kids there’s a volleyball net, horse shoes, a pool, and rock painting.
The cabins are cozy and each has it’s own kitchen, but if your group is anything like mine you’ll be making good use of the barbecues! Across from the office is a covered area with two large picnic tables, perfect for a large get together of hunger people.

Great place. 15 or so individual «cabins,» — one room units with kitchen, bed and bath. Badminton and horse-​shoes. Pool. Jim and Debbie are super friendly. They took us out on the boat, played movies on the wall for kids at night, and play guitar on the deck in the evening. Beach is boat friendly, but not easy to swim there, need to take the boat across the lake to the local sand-​bar.
