Honey-Do Handyman

Stephen did amazing work on my rental property. I decided it was time to sell it, and the whole property needed a decent amount of work… interior painting, fixing cracked windows, repairing part of the wall in the garage, etc.
I’m amazed at how good a job his team did. The house looks so good I’m actually wondering if I should still sell it. Thank you very much for such a great experience.

Steve and his team are a pleasure to work with. My husband and I use him whenever we have an issue with our property in Hollywood and he has not let us down. Always professional and trustworthy — hard to find! We would recommend him for anyone looking for his service, super friendly and fair prices — from electrical, repairs and installations — he has not let us down!

I needed a roof tarped and protected from this week’s rains. Steve came out within an hour and gave a very fair estimate. Steve was prompt, courteous, and professional. And, today I arrived at my office and no leaks inside noted.
Thanks, Steve. You saved me a lot of stress. I will be calling with my next job that needs being done.

Guys were on time, jumped on the projects right away, and came in under budget. I will definitely use them again.

SCAM!!! I called this company for an emergency service. Aka worst term to use with a handyman. It’s their code word for Prey! He send over one of his employees that demanded a deposit and I foolishly gave him $ 550.00 he left to go get «materials“and 5 hours later, I called express my concerns to which he responded he was in traffic. Then he had the guts to text me and say he had a church event and won’t come back till the next day, knowing I only hired him because I needed the work done that day. Eventually he showed up at 6pm and glued on 3 sections on a counter, ruined my brand new granite top. Ripped off a tile I needed. Was very disrespectful and talked about his marriage and divorce and personal life and just all around such an uncomfortable situation. But topped it all off when he said okay my job is done for today, I said well we agreed that you would finish this for me before you go. He got loud and started saying I don’t care, I am done, it is what it is. And stormed out. I have never met a worst crook, a more disrespectful and unprofessional human being. The next day I texted since I already lost my deposit to which he responded I am not conning back. And claims he worked for 10 hours. Thank God for cameras. He worked from 6 – 9 and half of it was him pretending to be working. I am now stuck with finding someone to clean up his mess of a job and mess he left behind him. Not to mention $ 550.00 short! What a scam!

Made a call at 4:30. George was sent at 7:30. Job was done within an hour.
I appreciated the quick response. I also appreciated that he did more than I had initially asked. I needed an aluminum door frame cut and I spent the entire day going from Home Depot to Lowe’s to OSH until I realized I needed a handyman for the task. Not only was he able to cut the frame but George also helped me install the lock and the rest of the set-​up.
I would definitely recommend them.

Steve is THE BEST. He arrived right on time and we got right to work on the list of 7 random things I’ve been wanting to do to my apartment for the past 2 years!
He fixed my screen door, hung a new set of blinds in the bedroom, hung a VERY heavy frame, anchored multiple hooks all over the apartment, leveled out my stove, and gave me advice on my wooden deck. And he paid very close attention to my (slightly anal) tendencies about things being straight/​level, etc and was so nice on top of it!
His rates were very reasonable for the amount of time/​jobs completed. He is definitely the kind of Handyman I will call again and again over the years and I could not recommend him more!

Steve is a great guy and does great work. He put together a bunk bed for my children and did an excellent job. He has set tiles on my staircase which look beautiful on our Spanish home. He has cleaned out my garage several times and hauled everything away. He fixed our plumbing. He is a man of many talents, very trustworthy and very reliable. I trust him in our home alone and have left him to work many times. I highly recommend him to do all kinds of jobs in your home. He will treat your home like it is his own.

DO NOT TRUST THIS GUY. HE IS A LIAR. DO NOT USE IF YOU NEED SOMEONE RELIABLE, HONEST OR TRUSTWORTHY.
We booked him 2 weeks in advance. The timing of having a handy man do the work was critical as it was an medical office move and there were a lot of items that needed screwing into the walls in the new office over the weekend before Monday so that we could have a smooth transition with our clients.
We confirmed a couple of days before.
He NEVER SHOWED UP. We called many times and he kept saying he is just around the corner. 5 minutes away.
20 minutes would go by and we would call again and get the same LIE. Finally 2 hours after he was suppose to be here he just stopped answering his phone. Never showed up never called back.
Not even a stupid excuse for his behavior. He just fell of the face of the earth.
This caused MAJOR issues for us.

Never completed work!
We called Honey-​Do for a drywall repair. They sent a man named Gilberto. We had a large hole in our drywall and specifically pointed out that he needed to match the paint on the wall. Gilberto patched up the hole then said to call when it was dry and he’d come back to sand and finish the job. So we called him and he came back the second time. He sanded some of the wall, added more drywall, and left. We called a third time for him to come back and he asked if we had the paint. I explained from the outset we told him he needed to match the paint for us (i.e. take the chips from the drywall hole and get the paint matched). He evidently forgot or missed that instruction, so now we don’t have a chip. He’s telling us that we need to take a chip from somewhere else, and buy the paint for him, «or you can pay for my time to do it for you,» he said. So now we have to take a chip out of the wall somewhere else and patch that area because he forgot to take a chip from the first hole. And he’s telling us we have to handle it.
So now we’re left with no paint chips and a giant, unsanded, unfinished drywall patch.
If I wanted to do this work myself, I wouldn’t have called a handyman.

I’ve known Steve for many years and used to use him for properties I was managing for a realtor in Florida. He does good work and is very trustworthy. I can’t think of a reason why someone wouldn’t give him a try.

Made an appointment with Steve for an estimate. Drove through rush hour traffic to meet him only to have him NO-​SHOW. When I called he casually said «Sorry, I forgot.» he had no recollection of the conversation we had about the job. He did offer to drive over right then but I declined.

I called this company yesterday and asked the owner if he could come out and give me an estimate and he replied not to night but tomorrow I will have one guy that I work with stop by on his way home from work to give u an estimate between 6pm –7pm and I told him that would be great. Today comes around and it passed the time frame that we were told and no one shows up or calls. I called Steve at 8:04pm and asked him what happened to the guy that was supposed to come give the estimate he replied I’m to busy and one of my guys called out sick. I don’t recommend the guy or company to anyone. They don’t keep there word

Steve and his assistant John have done several jobs for us in the past couple weeks to help prepare a rental home for sale that needed some help to look its best — drywall, carpentry, paint, and some minor electrical. All was done well, done promptly, and at a very fair price. They didn’t need a ton of instructions or close supervision. We will definitely use Steve and John again!

Finally getting to this review!
I asked Steve for a referral last summer after a good experience I had with someone he sent over.
Wanted to have awnings painted… the guy that came over totally ripped me off! The work he did was terrible! I had to repaint everything he did!!! He took some of my stuff home with him to paint it and I thought I was going to call the cops to get it back! He said he was always sick… and a two day job turned into weeks! Worst experience I ever had with someone that I hired!
Guess we should read all the negative reviews before we call someone!

SLOPPY, UNPROFESSIONAL, UNACCOUNTABLE BEWARE!!!
Trip #1
1) First conversation Steve mentioned bringing a worker. I told him I was sensitive to having strangers in my home. If he brings anyone, it, should be someone he vouches for. Imagine my stupification when he brought a random buy from the HD parking lot. OK I lived to tell the tale, but I didn’t appreciate that.
2) The HD worker accidentally cracked the $ 50 piece of plexiglass we were using in the window. It was an oops moment, but Steve made no attempt to remedy; no little discount — nothing. Like, I should just accept that as routine. Since it was not super noticeable, I just shut up.
3) A 2×3 he used to hold the a/​c in place running the width of the window was ‘glued’ to the plexiglass outside; meaning that when the window is open you see an a/​c and a tacky piece of wood running the length of the window that can’t be covered or painted.
4) There are open gaps (sunlight streaming through) on both sides of the unit. Heat and misquitos can easily get in.
5) There was an awkward extended personal conversation he had with his girlfriend while the worker and I just stood there (my place is very small). That was random.
6) He took a pic of himself at my window without the courtesy of asking if that was ok.
Trip 2
I have 4 pieces of IKEA-​Target type furniture to put together. Mounting two heavy items, pick up a futon a few blocks away-​haul bed to the GWill a few blocks away.
Had sent a detailed list of furniture; over the toilet shelf, wall mounted shelf unit, futon, sm pub table and little benches, also asking to re-​secure the mirror Steve hung previously. (I have been a Purchasing Manager for several health centers and support offices many years so have hired people for these tasks more than the average person probably. I believe my expectations are reasonable.)
I requested two guys, 4 hrs. I was going to be out of town, but wanted to get on the books. I figured since I had no structural jobs, they could handle IKEA furniture. WRONG!
Steve sends my info on to a second person with no hand off. Guy is Gil. He contacts me. Blowing up my phone for several days while I am out of town (which I explained). He is re-​sent the list I sent to Steve.
He shows up, nice guy. Says Steve will be there later.
He struggled with EVERYTHING, constantly blaming ‘the directions”. We all know these kind of directions can be challenging — but he’s the professional, right? The quality of workmanship is so bad I want to cry at how bad of a job he did with my new pieces of furniture — now expensive trash. I paid this … worker $ 50/​hr! He was worth no one than $ 15 — as a helper. He also gave me a personal business card that did not reference Honey Do — to whom I employed.
1) It took him ONE AND ONE HALF HOURS to put together a basic over the toilet shelf.
2) A mounted a shelf unit was installed upside down by he and Steve (who showed up for this one thing). When I noticed it, he re-​installed, but on the clock.
3) The top on my new little pub table was not attached securely to the frame. There are bumps where the screws were over-​installed across the top.
4) my $ 500 futon was ruined; ‘nailed’ together. He left 5 huge screws from the packaging that did not get used. I can’t use it as a futon (why else would one buy a futon if not to use it as an occasional bed) and am afraid if it gets moved around too much the frame will split.
My concerns to Steve went unacknowledged.
Unprofessional, sloppy workmanship, zero follow through, unaccountable.

Steve did a great job helping me fix everything up in my new apartment. I live by myself and there are just some things you can’t do alone. I booked an appointment with Steve and I’m very pleased with the results. He got so much done (hanging my large painting, moving furniture, applying earthquake straps, etc.) in such a short amount of time and he was very pleasant. If you’re a woman looking for a trust worthy man to come and help you at your home for a reasonable price I highly recommend Steve.

I contacted Steven and asked him to contact Living Social so I could get a refund. They were having trouble contacting him (he didn’t answer their call when they tried Monday morning while I was on hold).
His response: can we reschedule.
I politely said no in my text.
Sorry, only a fool would reschedule with a no show handyman… and one who got defensive, mean and completely unprofessional.

We found this service on living social — and was extremely disappointed in it. We made our appointment, and he didn’t show up, didn’t call, didn’t answer the phone. He did eventually, and said he forgot about us. That should have been our first clue. When he did show up — he didn’t want to do the painting we originally planned the service for. He did fix a light fixture that the bulb had broken off in, reset our pocket door, and fixed the rain gutter just fine. However, the grout in our tub he did a very lousy job — not to mention, he left a mess in the tub for me to clean up! He spent more time on his phone, or just b-s’ing than working!
I guess word of mouth is the way to go when finding a handyman –not Living Social. The deal we paid for was not worth it!
