Nor Cal Landscape

I do not recommend this company. Rude, curses a lot, doesn’t return phone calls and doesn’t show up to appointments for estimates, not once but three times. Work done by Nor Cal at friend’s house turned out shotty at best. Crooked fencing, lattice, already falling apart after only a year. What about permits? Says we don’t need them? Too bad we really wanted this company to do our work but kind of glad he dogged us after reviewing his work and ethics. We took our business elsewhere. Thank you.

Tom and his crew did a great job creating a retaining wall. He gave me options to start with which put me, the customer, in the driver seat. Then along the way he continued to ask for feedback to assure I was satisfied. I am thrilled with the time in which he completed the project and the work.

I interviewed five different landscapers before selecting Nor Cal; Tom was the best by a long shot. We had the crew rip out old concrete and put in pavers in our front and backyard. It’s completely changed the feel and functionality of our yard. The job even inspired our neighbor’s to re-​do their front yard too.
Through out the process Tom was committed to ensuring we met our project goals within budget. He made thoughtful recommendations, had incredible attention to detail, and was persistent in ensuring we made informed decisions.
His crew was also top notch. They have worked together for a long time and it shows. They always arrived on time, kept a clean and safe job site, and made sure to wave to my 1 year old daughter watching them in awe from the living room. One of things I really appreciated is they were dedicated to my project from start to finish, I always knew when they would be there and when the project would be finished.
Everybody will always tell you to get at least three bids on your job, and select the one in the middle… don’t waste your time. Make one call and be sure it’s Tom at Nor Cal Landscape.

Seeing all the NorCal Landscaping signs around the neighborhood, helped me decided to use Tom’s group with my backyard project. From the beginning, Tom made me confident that he could handle the job. I appreciated Tom’s «common sense» approach with an artistic vision to fullfill my expectations. In fact, Tom’s ideas and suggestions were better than what I had in mind. Tom kept in contact with me throughout the project and pointed out things that my other contractors should be letting me know to keep the projects going. NorCal seemed to be bailing out couple of my other contrators short-​comings.
I would not hesitate to use NorCal Landscaping in future projects. Only a couple more things to do and I’ll be able to enjoy my backyard. Thanks, Tom!

The 1200 sq ft patio extension done by NorCal heaved after one rain and had to be completely ripped out and re-​done. All of the concrete pros that looked at this were blown away at how shoddy the work from NorCal had been. Specifically, they cited:
* No epoxy used in the rebar dowels and consequently many pulled out
* Rebar dowels were only #3 (3/​8″) and not #4 (½″) and consequently they bent too
* Rebar dowels were only every 6 – 8′ apart vs 16″-24″ spacing industry standard
* Excavation was WAY too shallow, 0−2″, vs 4−6″ industry norm
* No deepened edge of excavation
* Insufficient concrete gravel base (0−2″ vs 4−6″ minimum)
* No caulk used between the old and new, hence water would seep between
* Some rebar dowels had rusted because they were too close to the soil and no caulk
* The slurry water that is supposed to be discarded at the start of the concrete pour was used in the patio
According to the other contractors, he «missed it by a mile» compared to industry standard practices.
So you think maybe this guy would just own up to it and fix it or pay to have it redone. No, exactly the opposite. Contested everything and even had to call the sheriff to keep this psycho under control a few more times too.
So I did sue him in court, and yes, I won my judgment. But small claims court is limited to $ 10K vs actual cost to replace of $ 13k+, plus the hassle to do this twice, plus all the harassment and law enforcement calls, and the headaches, and the jackhammer and concrete saw noise and dust, and the time to prep and take this to court.
If all this wasn’t bad enough, he drove a 70,000 pound concrete truck over my septic field which caused thousands in damages, packed up and left without finishing the project, nickel and dimed me mid-​stream, renigged on the credit he offered when I scaled back the original project, and harassed and threatened me and my family. What a total disaster.

I wish I could give NorCal 10 stars. I’m speechless with the transformation that is now my yard. We began with absolutely nothing for a back yard. Our home is at the top of a col-​de-​sac and backed right into a mountain, needless to say not much of a yard.
When we met Tom, we were excited to get our project under way but had so many questions and concerns. Tom had such a beautiful vision for our yard. Throughout our 6 week journey, Tom was always on site for any questions daily. He was also easy to reach when questions arose. Tom’s crew was magnificent. They were always on time, very personable and so respectful. We fell in love with their work and demeanor that we often brought ice cold water, coke, donuts, and even made lunch for them a few Fridays. My 6yr old son just loved Job and his father, His father would always high five him everyday and would even allow him help spread mortar or lay rocks etc.
NorCal went above and beyond our expectations. They turned our dream into a reality. They gave my children a place to play and gave my husband and I our relaxing retreat. Tom and his crew made our house a HOME!!! We will forever be grateful.

Finding a trustworthy contractor in this day and age can prove to be extremely difficult. Thank God I found this company! Tom has a great deal of knowledge and did a great job! I love my new yard! I would definitely recommend this company to my friends and will go back to them if I ever need anything else.

Called Nor Cal Landscape for an initial consultation. Tom needs a lesson in how to promote his business. He may do good work (?) but because of his attitude on the telephone, I will never know.

Tom and his team did an amazing job with laying out the pavers for the backyard. Nor Cal installed Belgard catalina pavers with drainage, i’m looking forward to working with Nor Cal again on my next project.

Tom’s crew did the front yard of our new house which including: adding electrical outlet, replacing sod, new plants, tree, extend down spout, adding/​adjusting sprinklers and drip system, extending concrete patio and covered with flagstone, added retaining wall with columns and capped.
Pricing is great, but the quality is even better!!! Don’t waste your time with amateurs or the big boys who want to bring in heavy equipment for a heavy price tag. Tom and the crew know exactly what to do and there every step of the way for questions or comments.
I would highly recommend Nor Cal Landscape and can’t wait to start the backyard.

We had a great experience working with Tom and his team and the finished product exceeded our expectations. All of our neighbors and our family and friends have been astonished at the before/​after state of our yard and how reasonable the cost was.
Tom installed a large paver patio, a retaining wall with columns and brick cap, drainage, a cement service area, sod, sprinklers, drip irrigation and trees.
Tom worked with us and our limited budget and his pricing was very clear and easy to understand. He stayed in contact throughout the project to keep us informed, and has followed up on several occasions to adjust the sprinklers and check in.
We’re looking forward to working with him again to finish more projects in the future.
