Azul at Spectrum

I give this place 3.5 stars; since the Unilocal scale only deals in «whole stars» — I rounded up. First of all, this is a great part of the valley and this location is close to San Tan Village. I believe this structure was built in or around 2007 AD. As far as the amenities go, the pool areas are smaller than some apartment complexes but they are well maintained and pleasant to use. The playgrounds were well kept.
My apartment was a split floorplan, 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom. The kitchen was a little small, but it worked. The closets were also small but the apartment had a side-​by-​side washer and dryer which sort of made up for them. (I have a ton of work clothes and outdoor adventure clothing). If you are looking for a decently priced place to live — check this place out.
I had no real big maintenance issues. Yeah, they messed up a couple service calls, and I hammered the office management. The management got on the stick and gave me some freebies as a measure of their remorse.
The internet upload service at this complex is provided by CenturyLink and it is terrible! They say 20 Mbps download but the upload speed I clocked was .89 Mbps!!! Yeah, TERRIBLE!
+++WORD TO THE WISE: If you deal with ANY of the front office representatives, get EVERYTHING IN WRITING! Keep the original slips of paper they give you! Scan and store electronically if necessary. I had a bill dispute with them; I failed to keep the paper estimate they gave me which resulted in me paying a higher than quoted «final move-​out fee.» The head manager, Melanie S., made it right so that is why I didn’t write a letter of complaint to their Corporate office. The head manager has been good to work with — go DIRECTLY to her if the front office ladies give you any crap! During my time, October 2014 – 2015 AD, I was told wrong information or outright lies a few times by some of the front office ladies. I cleared it up with Melanie who set them straight. It appears that they use this location to, «train new staff.»
I would always recommend getting EVERYTHING in writing or by email in general.

The Apartment itself is nice and amenities look amazing but that is where you are fooled!!! We moved here specifically because they are «DOG FRIENDLY» that statement could not be more incorrect! I myself have made multiple complaints as well as at least 20 other people to both Borrego and Azul seeing as they are connected. You first show up and look around dog park looks great looks like there is tons of grass but what they don’t tell you is they FLOOD the entire place which, the dog park is a total mud pit all except between 11am and 5pm which in Arizona threw the summer is only 105 to 115 degrees who wouldn’t want to be out and play in that heat! Everytime you try and take your dog to that park in the morning they are running sprinklers nonstop and you and your pet will leave literally with mud up and down you legs. Not to mention when you have grass a ton of water what comes with that? Yes Mosquitos non stop everywhere enjoy hanging out in the muddy park getting bite a thousand times!!! Then you get to give your dog a daily bath but not before your furry friend can get in and around you house to track mud in hint time for a carpet charge! Even walking your pet around the areas you will sink into mud daily and like I said they only time it is not a mud pit is in the heat of the day! Even the night time they run the sprinklers nonstop which water is always split between all the tenants! They say it is to keep the grass green and beautiful I work in the Golf Industry we water our course 1 time at 4am and 1 time at 9pm i am not stupid! If i would of known it would be like this no chance in hell i would of moved into this place, like i said i and many other people have complained and all they say is we are not in charge of the water its a contractor who is, well then i would be pissed if i was managing this place because you tenants are getting very angry! If you have a pet there are so many better places if you don’t then well this probably doesn’t concern you! But no joke this sucks having to drive to a dog park every single day because you can’t use the 1 they so call provide!

I am a very picky person in terms of housing. I moved to Azul at Spectrum from Philadelphia. Gilbert is definitely a change from Philadelphia (not awesome), but as for Azul at Spectrum, I cannot say enough good things about it. They are prompt with service, their staff is incredibly kind, respectful, and responsive, they are clean, and the facilities are good (gym, pool, volley ball court, dog park, 24 hour printers and computers) and very well kept. Also, Azul’s business hours also cannot be beat — they are open 7 days a week. The only thing I dislike, is that it is mandatory at Azul to pay for valet trash service (why can’t I just bring my trash to the dumpster for free if I want to?).
In terms of the dog poop questions other reviewers on other sites have mentioned, I personally witness Azul’s staff members coming out EVERY morning to try to pick up the dog poop that dog owners leave behind. There is a dog poop bag dispenser and garbage can every 50 feet for goodness’ sake. Yes, there may be some dog poop outside. But I can testify that Azul is doing its best to make up for irresponsible dog owners; so if you see dog poop here, please understand who is at most to blame (by the way, I have a dog; I clean up his poop because I believe it should not be someone else’s job to take care of my own mess).
I have lived here for 2 years. After 1 year, I thought I might prefer to move to more of a city, like Scottsdale or Tempe, but I stayed because Azul at Spectrum is such a wonderful place to live. I have lived many places in many states; trust me — this place is great. I am on the opposite side of a building that is next to the pool (so I face away from the pool) and I don’t hear any noise whatsoever. It’s really quiet. Azul also throws occasional pool movies or pool parties if you are interested in meeting people, but I never hear them on the occasions I stay in my apartment. I rarely hear my neighbors. So you can have quiet and socialization as you please. (I rated Noise a 1 because it asks if I can hear my neighbors; I cannot hear my neighbors well at all). I have renewed my lease for the second time, even though Gilbert is really not a cool pace to live (moved here for a job). I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to move to Azul at Spectrum again if I had to live in Gilbert. There are security people who walk around, so you always feel safe, even at night. If you are looking to live in Gilbert, this is the place to go.
Oh yeah, and those people who say (on this site and others) that they get a ton of additional and unexpected fines or charges, I’m not sure what they did to get them or what they are talking about. I will admit, I haven’t moved out yet, so maybe Azul will hit me later with all those move-​out fines the other reviewers have talked about (I’ll let you know if they do). And it is true, this is a big management company that will not accept damage to the apartment or late payments. They are very serious about paying your rent, and you will get fined and evicted shortly if you do not pay (within days). But that being said, I have never had ANY fines or fees I didn’t expect within the past 2 years, and they have been nothing but courteous to me. They have only been fair with me. So, for those of you reading reviews about additional fines incurred by other reviewers (apart from moving out fees, with which I have not had experience yet), you might just want to inquire more deeply why those fines were incurred.

I wish I had read the reviews on this place before we moved in. Their gross negligence caused some our items to be stolen when the Maintenece man did a «pre inspection» and left the back door unlocked. Management acted like they cared and we’re going to work with us on how to get it resolved and then we never heard from them. And now we are being charged 1500 dollars upon move out for things they said they did. We’re waiting on proof but I’m not hopeful we’ll ever see it. This is a great place to live if you love to be scammed and treated like their personal atm. If you are a normal renter without unlimited funds I recommend choosing another apartment company to rent from. These people are glorified thieves that hide behind vague contracts and empty promises.

Azul is pretty cool. It is my first apartment since moving to Arizona from Pittsburgh a year ago. I have been living there since May and I really can’t complain.
My apt was really clean and looked new when I moved in. I don’t have any issues with my neighbors and rarely hear anything. The staff is pretty nice too, and my maintenance requests are always handled within 24 – 28 hours. I don’t really like the pool, and I think rent is kind of pricey. Other than that, Azul is great!

I lived here from June 2010-​June 2011 and I absolutely loved these apartments.(I actually forgot the address and needed it for an application that wants my addresses for the past five years and that’s how I stumbled upon the reviews). I was originally drawn to them because a friend had previously lived there and I loved her apartment. Anyways, when we were apartment searching, we had a pretty low budget but we knew what area we wanted to live in. We visited surrounding apartments and were pretty bummed about how little our money would get us. I convinced my then boyfriend to just check out Azul at Spectrum and cross our fingers that they’re running a special. He had no hopes that my plan would work, but he humored me anyways and we went. When we arrived, we were greeted by a really nice lady who immediately offered to take us on a tour. We talked price and we were so happy to find out that they were in fact running a special and it was in our budget! I placed a deposit the next day and we moved in two months later. A few months into our lease, we got a husky puppy (which is allowed with a deposit and monthly fee) and he loved the little dog park they have. It was good that he got to socialize but I highly recommend you do not get a husky in an apartment. We lived on the second floor right next to the pool. I LOVED going to the jacuzzi while my bf grilled. It was awesome. When it was a month prior to our lease ending we got a notice saying that we needed to let them know if we were staying or not. If we were going to stay, our rent would have increased over $ 150 a month because they were «at over 90% capacity». I loved living there, but not enough to pay an extra $ 150. Luckily, I was in the midst of purchasing a house, so I gave my notice. When we moved out, we left the apartment with a hole in the carpet (kenneled husky dug through the plastic bottom and through the carpet down to the concrete) and a stench of a kennel. At that point I was so glad I was moving out of there. It is pretty much impossible to expect a dog to hold it in for 10+ hours (we worked a lot). I ended up not getting my deposit back (rightly so) and having to dish out $ 900 to repair the carpet. That sounded a little high to me, but I paid it. Luckily they set me up on a payment plan since I didn’t have that type of money after closing on a house. P. S. — my husky now has a HUGE grass yard, a dog door, and is spoiled rotten ;)

I’m not sure if I lived at the same place as these last two reviews. This place is tacky. Plan on being charged for carpet when you leave if you have pets.

best place i have lived! very clean and the management is so nice. super pet friendly and surprisingly private. Love the pool and my favorite part is that we have our own dog park!!!
In june we had to break our lease early for a family emergency. They were very helpful in getting all the arrangements taken care of. I still rate them 5 stars. If you are going to live here just remember you are signing a contract. We did end up having to pay a $ 1400 lease break fee and you need to give 60days notice. unfortunately we could only give 30 days. Also if you break the lease all discounts (aka consessions) you got for moving in you have to pay for. I am still really happy with azul! luckily we didnt have to pay the $ 2500 up front. They let you do a years payment plan.

Absolutely horrible. Management unresponsive. Maintenance is a joke. Slapped us with ridiculous charges. They will reel you in with their great $ 99 deposit. Then they’ll ask for a surety bond which means kiss-​it-​goodbye bond. Then they’ll charge you for ridiculous FALSE items when you leave. No reaction from corporate; no pictures or evidence. They don’t change locks when you leave; they don’t change carpets.

I have lived in many locations all over the valley, but my stay at Azul apartments has been my best ever. The management team here is helpful and nice. The community is clean and pet friendly. They have just added DIRECTV dishes on the tops of all their buildings — they have flat screens in their pool area and just yesterday I used the bathrooms in the pool area for the first time, oh my goodness, they were wonderful! The prices for these apartments are fair and I would recommend this Mark-​Taylor facility to whom ever was looking for a safe, clean, fun location.
