16 Handles

The cleanliness of this location really needs to be addressed. I use to frequent 16 Handles because both my daughter and I love FroYo; however, after asking on multiple occasions for the employees to wipe the tables, floors, and the toppings station, I gave up. We were in the Rio area today and decided to stop for FroYo, although I had my reservations. They did not disappoint and were just as dirty as I remember. I understand there is a lot of traffic; however, I do frequent Menchie’s on a weekly basis and have never seen their floors and station this nasty. I’ll stick with Menchie’s where the employees are always welcoming, FroYo is always great, and store is always clean.

Really good sorbet. Here I have the mango it doesn’t taste fake at all. Just like ripe mangos blended with some sugar :) lots of toppings and fresh fruit to go along with the sorbet.

Service and cleanliness needs A LOT of work. my hubby and myself have been here before when we stay in the area. We came Fri night and he loves the no sugar flavored yogurt, they had the coffee one. It cake out really slow so I ended up letting one out of the two cashiers know who said ok and brushed it off continuing his conversation with his colleague… then went to the back room.
Yesterday Sat night we stopped by I got a yogurt too. Out of the machines about 6 – 8 of them had a blinking light meaning low mix and some flavors didnt even come out. We got our toppings went to register where i asked for a manager. Cashier went to get her and she comes out. i explain how mixes and yogurt are low not being replenished, the topping bar is very dirty. All she said was ok… ok…yeah we have some problems with some machines… ok .ok.
Basically if you can avoid.avoid. i am sure there are better yogurt places… cleaner and working machines!!!

It was really crowded when I came here, but the line moved quickly… there’s only a couple of seats inside, but there’s several tables and benches outside along the boardwalk.
There are a lot of flavors of yogurt to choose from (I think 16?), and a good variety of fruits, chocolate, and candy for toppings.
Bonus points for location… you can walk around the lake and watch the ducks and geese swimming: D

I think its funny that people are surprised this place is a rip-off…guys, it’s a froyo joint at the RIO. Let’s be real. And yes, our cashier was on her iphone the entire time too, but she was friendly and there was no line. It is what it is.
With all that out of the way, I feel like 16 Handles had some flavors other places don’t have. Mint for example, was great to have with little peanut butter cups and cookie dough dumped on top. You can also get a waffle bowl to put in your cup, which I’ve never seen before. Definitely some nice little extras that separate the place from the others.

The fro-​yo, to me, tastes like any other fro-​yo. Good flavor selection, though. I liked the unsweetened dulce which was basically coffee flavor.
They have a better topping selection than I have seen at other places.
It comes in at 53 cents per ounce, though. That’s one of the most expensive places around. Prepare to pay $ 4 for the smallest serving you can muster with a few toppings.

We can hardly go to Rio without stopping at 16 Handles for the granddaughter to get frozen yogurt. They not only have a nice variety of flavors, but the flavor signs are color coded as vegan, lo fat, etc. It was a cold day the last time we went in so they weren’t at all busy. Two employees behind the counter gave us nice smiles when we entered. Our granddaughter went down the line and mixed two flavors and a few toppings. Her cup came to around $ 3.00, certainly less expensive and healthier than the candy store just across the street from 16 Handles.

Great place for that frozen craving. Though one day I went in and there were a bunch of employees in the way waiting for their paychecks. Very unprofessional

Love this place. So many choices between flavors and toppings. Yogurt is delicious. Place always looks good and clean. Staff is super friendly. This place is fantastic.

I am wildly impressed with the selection of flavors and toppings here. I am not crazy about froyo but 16 Handles has won me over with their selection! My favorite flavors were the new peach sangria sorbetto and I am also in love with the caramel froyo. The little chocolate turtles and the cookie dough bites were addicting!
I knocked a star off because the line was extremely slow, but I’d admit I’d blame the fact that this place is just swarming with kids!

Frozen yogurt here is good. There’s a good variety of flavors. I’ve had better though.
The toppings are OK. They don’t have a ton of toppings, but it’s more than some places.
The design is the worst part, I think. It’s in a busy place with tons of foot traffic, but it’s basically shaped like a small hallway with uncomfortable plastic chairs.
You could do worse. But you could also do better.

I like how this place has some hazlenut crunch balls, but compared to other places, their yogurt is subpar. Since it’s the only froyo in the Rio, it’s pretty busy, especially on nice spring and summer days.
The décor is just about the same as any other froyo place: bright greens, bright pinks, etc. Not really my first choice in go to froyo, but if I’m in the area, it is nicely convenient.

They have mini gummy bears!!, reese cups need I say more?
I don’t really eat yogurt like that so can’t help you out on the taste. I just wanted the candy! They did have a large selection of yogurt… I’m assuming 16 types? 16 handles? Not sure cause all I got was the candy!!!

This place has really gone down hill. I remember when it first opened it was so nice, now it is really crowded and not very clean. Last time I walked in here it smelled overwhelmingly like a weird funky smell I couldn’t place mixed with bleach like they tried to cover something up with bleach… ack!
As you have seen in the pictures, behind the counter are a ton of young kids standing around like they hate life. The yogurt quality and flavor selection is not enough to bring me back here. The toppings are run of the mill, you can get them at any other yogurt place.
I walked out the last time I was there because of that smell and I have not returned since, probably will not.
If you can drive to another spot, there is another and a bit cleaner 16 handles at Kentlands, it is also less crowded. Avoid 16 handles all together if you can.

Typical new-​wave froyo place; you know, the kind that are popping up everywhere like Boston Market was doing 12 years ago. I filled my cup with chocolate yogurt, yogurt-​covered pretzel bits, a bit of cake batter yogurt, and a first time topping for me — melted Crunch bars; Highly surprising substitute for chocolate sauce or fudge.
Like all froyo places they get you with the fruit because it weighs the most and they charge by the ounce. I can get a heaping cup of yogurt with cookies crumbs or pretzels on top, and my wife will get a dollop of yogurt with fruit and hers will cost more than mine.

I don’t know why these new frozen yogurt places serve non-​fat yogurt. The frozen yogurt just loses its dimension/​soul once the layer of flavor (fat) is sucked out from it.
Anyways, standard toppings for the herd (candy laden with HFCS) and some fresh fruit.

Froyo places are the new Starbucks. They’re everywhere and for the most part, they’re all the same.
Walk into 16 Handles and you might think you’re in any one of the other numerous self-​serve froyo places. And for the most part, that’s fine.
As you’d expect from the name, they’ve got 16 flavors of yogurt to choose from as well as a decent selection of toppings. Serve yourself as much as you like for only 49 cents per ounce.
Two complaints:
1) No tasting/​sample cups or spoons. You’d better like that root beer float yogurt as much as you think you’re going to.
2) This location is very cramped. It’s very narrow and even with only about 6 people in the serving area, everyone was bumping into each other. There’s also very little seating if you’d like to eat there.

The topping bar is pretty cool and they have a loyalty card, so once a total of eight cups are purchased, I’d get $ 4.00 off my ninth cup (as long as it totals at least $ 5).
Their flavors are seasonal so make sure you keep that in mind, because the do change from time to time :)

OK. I’m slow, my husband had to explain that it’s called «16 Handles» because there are 16 flavors. Duh! Clearly, my husband loves me for my energetic personality and NOT for my brains. HAHAHA!
Anyhoo…it’s a little fro-​yo place in the Rio that’s across from Nando Peri Peri. The fro-​yo itself is pretty tasty, not too sour (something that my husband hates) and not too sweet (something that I hate). The topping offerings were good, but on this Sunday afternoon, the fruit selection was a little sparce and pretty beaten up. But then, there were a billion kids there (I think they came from a party next door at the paint-​your-​own-​pottery place), so perhaps that had something to do with it.
At 49 cents per oz, it’s definitely reasonably priced. I also like that they ahve different sized containers for you to use, instead of just one gigantic one that makes you feel lame for only getting a little.
All in all, a cute little fro-​yo place, great to satisfy fro-​yo cravings, but nothing truely spectacular.

loud eye-​blinding colors on the walls and the smell of sewage was what i saw when i first walked in. but since i love froyo, i decided to try it anyway. I grab a sample cup and 3 of the machines I tried to use were broken… or out of yogurt? i felt a bit slow because i was standing in front of each machine forever waiting for the signs to rotate through so i would know what flavor i would be trying.
the toppings bar was dirty/​messy and there was a bug crawling around the counter… ew.
I settle for the original tart — it was okay. The flavor was good, but the consistency was really off, it was too icy for my liking.
the staff was not very friendly either — no one greeted us when we entered, and they just looked plain annoyed.
