Simon Academics

My daughter is currently a freshman in high school, and is a straight A student… however, she was having difficulty and struggling with Algebra 2. Simon Academics was highly recommended by the parents of two of my daughters fellow students. We signed up for tutoring in this most difficult subject, and couldn’t have asked for better results. Thanks to Simon Academics, my daughter is maintaining her straight A grades! My daughter has been going to Simon Academics since her 2^nd grade and loves it there! We started with Creative Writing with Mr Simon back then. Her writing style is vastly improved, and now in her 5^th grade she writes with a lot more imagination and flair than we have ever expected. Her vocabulary is richer, and we are often surprised by how well she articulates. We’ve since added Math and Reading with Mr Z.
Mr Z has an endearing teaching style, My daughter enjoys herself in his classes and completely lost her fear for failing in mathematics. Her confidence level about her math skills is at a completely different level.
The tutors at Simon Academics do not believe in a ‘one size fits all’ approach to academics. They strive to identify and address any learning roadblocks their students are facing. We’ve seen a few these past few years, and Mr Simon has always helped get over the hump with some personalized suggestions and sometimes even a few customized class to help her over a problem area.
If you want a tutor that looks past the obvious and is genuinely interested in what your child is learning, this is the place you want to be in.

Mr. Simon is a great teacher. He is very patient and understanding of his students, and he is willing to spend extra time in order to make sure students get the necessary attention they need in order to for them to do well. I feel that the 2 years with Mr. Simon has taught me not only literary skills and essay writing, but also about social skills and how to connect with other people as well. He is a wonderful teacher that I appreciate very much, and would recommend to anybody who needs helps with their English tests, essays, and college applications.

Fifth grade: I fail one essay on a topic I cannot even remember anymore, and my mom says «You’re going to get help — writing is clearly your weakest subject.» And despite plentiful protests, my mom signs me up for a writing class with a mysterious «Mr. Simon».
«Mr. Simon» to my fifth grade self meant a middle-​aged, balding white man who would grill me on grammar until I pleaded mercy. Thankfully, I quickly found out the real Mr. Simon exhibited none of the above qualities. Instead, I found a young (ish) man who was as fond as cracking jokes as he was at deleting my commas, who grew up playing Diablo and reading science fiction just as I had. I found a friend as well as a teacher.
Fun and games aside, we did a lot of writing. There was homework every week. From persuasive essays to short stories to limericks, Mr. Simon managed to cover a lot of ground. He taught me the basics of writing — never assume your audience knows what you know («You’re reader is stupid!», he would say). Explaining everything in a crystal clear manner goes a long way, especially in high school English classes. Teacher’s love it when they don’t have to re-​read your sentences to understand what you mean. In middle school, he introduced to me the concept of first stating relevant anecdotes/​hard evidence, then analyzing this evidence a few sentences later. Mastering this «chunk» format is essential to success in high school — being the core requirement of most analytical essays that teachers assign, and Mr. Simon prepared me well for it.
However, my favorite part of those Tuesday nights was the short story assignments. Mr. Simon gave my thirteen year old imagination plenty of room to maneuver. I wrote about spork-​wielding soldiers who invaded alien motherships, murderous Templar assassins who maybe just happened to match the characters of Assassin’s Creed, and my personal favorite, stories that pit my real-​life friends against each other in a series of hilarious (and often violent) pranks. It was when writing these stories that I realized how fun writing could be — given you actually enjoy the subject you are writing about.
Now I am in my senior year of high school. I look back at my English journey — Honors English 9 and 10, AP English Language and Composition, SAT Writing, and now AP English Literature — and I see a smooth, stress-​free ride. I was able to score high marks on nearly all my school essays and an 800 in SAT Writing, largely due to the practice and skills I acquired from Mr. Simon’s class. I can safely say that English is no longer my weakest subject, but in fact, one of my strongest.

My son didn’t know ABC’s when he started school in USA when he was 9 years old, He had tough start and no matter how hard he try his English is pulling him from achieving higher in other subjects. Since he started regular writing class with Simon once a week and some time with Ashley I noticed his English grammar is much improved. He reads faster and comprehend better. His STAR test in 2012 gets surprisingly high-​560! Thanks to Mr. Simon! Simon has a subtle touch with his students, not only he teaches well but also he knows how to talk to teenagers and knows their needs.
Definitely we will continue here and surely will recommend our friends.
Simon works well with our schedules and is very flexible trying to accommodate the busy lives of.

My son has been working with Mr. Simon for almost a year now and feels much more confident in his writing. His grades reflect his progress. Jon was patient with my daughter, who has language-​based learning differences and found putting her thoughts into a cohesive essay a challenge. Now, as a college sophomore, she maintains an A average and is also a successful business entrepreneur. She has gained tremendous confidence (something lacking throughout her K-​12 education) and is outspoken about addressing different learning styles. Jon’s diligence in working with her writing has helped to give her these skills and no doubt, propel her into this multifaceted education

My 6 year old daughter was struggling with reading and after trying out Kumon for a couple of months, we decided we needed to step it up. She has been attending both 1:1 and a small group class for the past 6 months and has made such great progress. Mr. Simon’s expertise, patience and encouragement have helped our little girl grow by leaps and bounds! Ms. Ashley has also been great, we’ll be sad to see her go. Our daughter is never reluctant to go to Simon Academics — which really makes me feel like we made the right choice with Simon Academics.

My daughter has been going here for the past 2 months. We have seen tremendous strides in her reading ability. She works with Simon and Sarah both. We plan on sending her to the summer reading groups to round out her reading success. We will send all of our friends here and keep returning ourselves as issues arise. My daughter is in first grade right now and will enter second grade with reading confidence thanks to Simon and Sarah!
Simon academics was more reasonably priced than the two other places that we looked into AND I really feel like they actually care about my daughter unlike the other places where the pay check was the ultimate goal.

At one point in time all of my cousins went here to be tutored by Mr. Simon. He’s great! Now I believe only one attends?
He use to operate behind his house solo in Fremont. Since then, he has now moved to this location and has wonderful tutors working under him. Reasonable prices and wonderful selection of books for kids to develop their reading skills! Almost picked one up myself to read. Tehehe.
