Specialties

The restaurant features a «Family Night Special» on the first Tuesday of each month with a low cost menu for the whole family. Then on the last Sunday of each month the Essanay partners with a California winery to create the monthly Vintner’s Dinner which features a gourmet prix fixe menu with selected wine pairings. In addition the Open Mic night is a firm Bay Area favorite which happens on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Throughout the month on most nights local musicians provide background music to create that magical dining experience.

The cuisine is based on a european style found in many of California’s wine making area which reflects the season. Special are frequently added to the menu. The Essanay Café is proud of an excellent wine and beer selection from the US and from around the world. The ambience is intimate with a strong historical theme reflecting the link to the days where Niles was the center of the new movie making industry.

History

Established in 2005.

The partners of the Essanay Café were looking for a location in the heart oif the Antique District, a location that had a historical connection with the original silent movie industry right here in Niles and had the potential for a year round patio where we could have great musicians and entertainers of all sorts show there talents. We bought the chinese restaurant at this location and tore it down to basics and restored the 1912 building back rto its original condition. 2 years ago we added the patio and with an excellent Executive Chef we have been going from strength to strength with a Wine Country cuisine that is getting a loyal following from all parts of the Bay Area.
