Sandwich was alright, but the three color desert was awful. There were so many beans it’s ridiculous.

I’m usually here for my daily coffee fix. THH has one of the stronger coffee around this area. Most bakery or cafes either serve it light or sweet. It’s perfect here for a quick cold cup of brew

Just ate a Banh Mi Dac Biet from here and damn I just had one of those«where have you been all of my life» moments. I am an American born Vietnamese and have spent a big majority of my lifetime in SoCal. My family lives in Sydney, Australia so whenever I would visit my mom and her family I would eat what I think are the best banh mi thit EVER over there. What makes a good banh mi thit/Vietnamese sandwich? Well obviously the bread has to be top notch and not ass quality but the sum of its parts, being the meat, veg, and condiments are equally as important to reaching sandwich enlightenment. I’ll break it down to you from my perspective: Bad bread: Dry as hell, may or may not cut a mean incision in your gums or roof of mouth upon several bites, or overly hard and chewy. Good bread: Crisp on the outside(you’re always going to have crumbs fall when you eat a banh mi, so just accept your fate and eat), just satisfyingly chewy(but not tough), and without the sensation of having eaten a crap ton of saltines. Bad meat: Comes out of a plastic bag from who knows what day, probably last week for all the business owners care. Has to be microwaved or defrosted. A good number of places have this bad meat. Good meat: Sitting in a confident pile on a cooled tray or heated tray depending on the meat, because they are sure they are going to sell a bunch of these sandwiches. And more importantly they probably cooked a fair bit of these meats. You probably have reader’s fatigue by now and I realize I’m getting food coma so I’ll let you all know that you NEED to get a sandwich from here. It is one of the best Vietnamese sandwiches I’ve had in SoCal. Not many places throw in that pink pork belly roll(Char Shiu/Xa Xiu) that gives the sandwich a ridiculous amazing taste. All of the sandwich places in Australia add that so maybe that’s what I’m freaked out about, but go out and try it for yourself! Would much rather get these sandwiches than from Lee’s or Banh Mi Che Cali and their Buy 2 Get 1 free.

To that bitch complaining about the line and complaining how it’s ridiculous. Woman it’s Saturday. You ain’t special. Last time I check, you’re not Beyonce or Prince. The line you’re standing in is coffee and baguettes only not sandwiches and side dishes! Learn how to read the damn sign and stop complaining. «I’m parked at a red line. I’m still waiting for my food. I’m going to get a ticket if I don’t move» why would you park at a red line? Idiot. Anyways. Awesome place to get sandwiches and soup :) been going here for over 6 years. Good service. Be patience people. Your food will be ready. You’re not going to die of 10 minutes starvation.

VIETNAMESEBANHMI, VIETNAMESEGOODIES… There are just some days where nothing sounds good to eat but a nice Vietnamese Banh Mi. Today was that day. Busy as heck at work, I was able to convince my work buddies to make a dash run to pick up some yummy baguettes. We drove like mad hungry people, got there in minutes(it seemed). Today was a good visit, there wasn’t a huge line. Just 5 people ahead of us. The 5 of us ordered like it was our last meal. it’s been awhile since I made one of these runs. Between us we ordered the following things: — 2 Chicken Baguettes $ 3.70 each — 4 Dac Biet Baguettes $ 3.70 each — They did not skimp on their meats, it was packed — 1 Nem Nuong w/Egg $ 4.00 — 1 Thit Nuong $ 3.45 — 4 Egg Rolls — Still warm — 3 Pork Balls — Yummy goodness — 2 Banh Cuons $ 5.00 — 1 Spring Rolls with Chinese Sausage & Egg — 2 Banh Day Dau $ 1.00 — Moist and slightly sweetened The 5 of us ordered in minutes and got our order within 5 – 8 minutes. When we got into the car, we realized we didn’t get any drinks since we were so Eye Hungry. Can’t beat this dash run, from the time we left our work and returning, it took us only 35 minutes. I guess driving like hungry maniacs helped. Not even sure why we were rushing back… I guess to inhale the Banh Mi. If this place wasn’t so far for us, we would have them on our Lunch Rotation List. Sometimes, you just gotta drive for GOOD&CHEAPEATS!

***(Fountain Valley) *** This is another mom & pop local sandwich shop. I would mainly go here to get some sandwiches and/or ice-coffee. This place has been around forever, and I pass it often to access the 405, to go to mile square park across the street, or head to Fry’s down the road. So I’m not quite sure why I don’t frequent this spot more often? Here’s what I liked… * The sandwiches are pretty good. * People stand in line here! Yahoo, it’s taken the community almost 30 years to start implementing lines. ha ha ha… * It’s like across the street from Mile Square Park. So you can just pick up some sandwiches and have a picnic if that’s your thing. Here’s what I didn’t like… * Sometimes parking in this little mall can be super hectic and chaotic! * The ice-coffee is a little more bitter and sweet than I’d prefer. * I picked up a «large» pork roll. When I cut it open it was like all banana leaf. What the heck? I felt like I just opened up a bag of potato chips and looked inside to see a bag half full of air :-(That’s too bad, there’s not even a weight listed on the packaging. I suppose the weight of the content is more of an art form and«eye-balled» :-) ha ha ha… Food = Sandwiches are good, but can be happier at other places. Service = average Seating area = There is some outside seating that’s ok to hang out. Restroom = always taken to-go, so unknown.

Having lived in a Viet Nam and experienced the coffee culture over there, I’m a bit more critical of Vietnamese coffee than the average person. That said, I find the café sua da very well done. It’s not too bitter nor is it too sweet; just a well-balanced cup of Chau. They also have a strong banh mi selection. I’ve had that thit nuong, that thit nguoi, the dac biet as well as the op la. There’s nothing but quality here folks, you can’t really go wrong with any banh mi.

Came here with my mom who ordered a banh mi and a Viet coffee. First of all, $ 3.75 for a ginormous sandwich? Yeah baby. Second of all, mad respect for a place that accommodated my mom’s request: «Minimal mayonnaise and soy sauce; no pâté; add egg, but egg white only, please.» Um mom, this isn’t Starbucks, I said. No matter, the staffer noted the request and they did it! A few days later I had the vegetarian banh mi with egg. So delicious! It has chunks of tofu AND fried potato which made it extra yum. It’s hearty and one of the best vegetarian banh mis I’ve had in a while due to its substantial nature. I’ll be back in a heartbeat.

This is the bomb. One of my favorite Vietnamese quick bite place because they never disappoint. What can I say, I like everything here from the sandwiches, pâté chaud pastry, steamed pork bums, sweet sticky rices, and all the pre made foods. IMHO better than Lee’s Sandwiches.

We’ve been to their other locations but came to this one because it was closest to where we were(South Coast Plaza). Our purpose was to get a couple of baguettes to make with the beef stew we were serving our friends at dinner. Needless to say, we walked out of there with more than just a couple baguettes. We can never resist their rice paper products in front of the cash register or their house special sandwich. Unfortunately, it is a long wait. People tend to order a buttload of sandwiches here so when your one little sandwich gets throw into the mix, you’ll be waiting a while. The assembly line is pretty mesmerizing but sometimes you noticed the lady remember an ingredient last minute and it makes you worry that she may forget something in your one sandwich.(You can tell I had plenty of time to think things through.) Also, she seems to «sprinkle» pepper on the house special sandwiches but I put sprinkle in quotes because she basically just waves the shaker casually over the sandwiches, heedless of whether the spice actually makes it into the sandwich. Other gripe is it doesn’t seem like the lady pushing out the orders pays attention to the ticket. We had to ASK her for the two baguettes we paid for. She didn’t fuss but it’s just an attention to detail that would have been nice. I’m a self-proclaimed ditz and do things like walk away from cash register without my requested cash back. So if I hadn’t been on top of my game, I would have walked out without the very items we were there for! Otherwise, their bread is amazing(buttery, crisp but doesn’t cut up your gums) and their sandwich is dope. The rice paper products are just ok to me.(But we keep buying them!)

Got to-go order on 50 egg rolls. Picked up right on time. Tip: –One egg roll is 0.65 cents. If you buy 50 or more it’s 0.55 cents. Saves you a couple of bucks and they’re so good that they go fast anyways.

This place has pretty decent banh mi despite the fact that it’s not necessary clean, even though it might look clean outwardly. I know for a fact that they do not wash their cucumbers and green peppers, they use these paper towel and wipe the dirt off their cucumbers and green peppers. If you think you can handle some left over pesticides on your veggies then you’re good to go. I normally order Banh Mi Cha Lua + Bi, it’s my favorite. 2nd best would be Banh Mi Thit Nuong and Dac Biet. I know it’s not clean but sometimes I take risks and sometimes I get food poisoning/stomachache after I eat here. Also, if you think of buying banh mi here for a picnic or to eat it later in the day, understand that the food get spoiled quickly and the banh mi might not last until later in the day because it’s not clean. Just know that you have been warned ;)

Amazing set up, almost Asian Jersey Mike/Subway like. I like the fact that you can point out to them what you want or don’t want on your sandwich. I had the BBQ pork mashed up with pork roll. The meats and vegetables are pretty amazing, but I kinda like my bread to be slightly crunchier. Maybe I had a bad batch, after all, it was towards the end of the day when I went. It was a little hard and unpleasantly chewy. They do get super packed in the mornings and lunch time, be warned. Which is why I chose to go towards the end of the day. Their price is super inexpensive and the place was clean. The ladies that assisted me were friendly. All and all, I was a satisfied customer. I really wish my bread was a little fresher because I would’ve had an amazing dinner. Maybe I’ll have to come during my lunch one day. Randomly walked in and ordered pork intestine porridge, wasn’t that great but the portion size is huge. :) Their Banh mi selection is plentiful, you can ask to add a fried egg!

This is probably my favorite spot for banh mi in the area. The bread is baked fresh and not too hard or soft. The quality of the meat is better than most places and the fillings are always fresh. The price is always right. I like that the bread here doesn’t cut you up like Lee’s, and the quality of the meat is better than Banh Mi Che Cali. So it’s a pretty easy choice for me. I just wish they would stop yelling at me in Vietnamese. I don’t think I look Vietnamese at all…

Yay! I’m definitely a fan! I finally found a good sandwich place! I have tried three of their sandwiches which are their spam and eggs, cha and eggs, and their beef sandwiches. My favorite would be spam eggs! So delicious! I definitely want to come back and try more sandwiches! One thing I would suggest is to cover all the food where they have a window for you to see what they’re doing and putting inside the sandwiches. I would give this place a 5 but I think that part is a bit unsanitary because I have seen flies flying around in there.

CASHONLY. I like coming here for taro smoothies and prepared spring rolls. For $ 3.50, you get 3 tasty rolls(shrimp, pork paste, sausage, or mixed) — enough for a light lunch or a filling snack! I want to try their sandwiches, pâté chaud, and desserts! It’s more of a takeout spot — there are only a few tiny table outside, which are usually occupied by OG viet men sipping coffee and playing cards.

Has anyone ever noticed that their English translation for #1 and #5 banh mi is wrong? #1 Banh Mi Thit Nuong: THH’s translation is «BBQ Pork». The correct translation should be «Grilled Pork». #5 Banh Mi Xa Xiu: THH’s translation is «Grilled Pork». The correct translation should be «BBQ Pork». No wonder why whenever I go and order food in Vietnamese I always get grilled pork banh mi, but when my husband orders he always comes home with the wrong banh mi(which is the BBQ pork). It’s not a big deal since both sandwiches are delicious but I thought I should still point that out. Moral of the story? If you ordered in Vietnamese, which most people do, you will get the correct sandwich that you want. If ordered in English, pray to Jesus cus I have no idea what you could get.

Tan Hoang Huong is my favorite Vietnamese sandwich place in Southern California(that says a lot considering the many, many banh mi places in the area). The banh mi is top notch. The meat is tasty and adequately portioned(not plentiful, but not dinky either), the veggies are fresh and add the right amount of texture, and the bread is crunchy on the outside and soft inside. A lot of banh mi places have bread that tears up the roof of my mouth but THH is great! I love the mayo here as well — it’s a little garlicky and has the perfect amount of richness. Delicious! I like thit nguoi(cold cuts) the most followed by the thit nuong(grilled pork). Be sure to add a fried egg — it is AMAZING! This place gets pretty crowded but the service, although not friendly(but seriously, these are Vietnamese banh mi shops, what do you expect?), is very efficient. The prices are amazing. For $ 10, I got one sandwich(about $ 3.50), 2 pâté chaud(so flaky and delicious), and a chicken rice plate(surprisingly very good). I highly recommend THH. I have a new work assignment in Fountain Valley in a few weeks and I am thoroughly excited about being 2 miles from this place! Although my waistline will probably not be as happy about it!
