New Hope Gymnastics

Went for a parkour lesson that was supposed to be 2 and a half hours. Got there at 630. Instructor ate pizza for an hour, then flirted with a gymnast there. Taught us two things for maybe 20 minutes then left to help said gymnast. Left at 830.
Gym was nice, lots of open space and great equipment. Would have been a complete waste of time if I hadn’t already known some parkour. Was able to practice for a while before getting bored of waiting

In Short this is a solid gym and I feel my daughter has had a positive experience. I would definately put this gym on my list of choices when looking for a new gym.
I am a parent of a level 4 – 6 gymnist. We have attended New Hope for a year now and have been on team the whole time. Previously we had come on Saturdays for practice at their open gym. According to my experience and my daughters reporting I feel she is getting very good instruction on what to do and how it is to be done. She had a scare at a previous gym where she had hit her head and was afraid to do a back hand spring. Over a period of months the coaching staff worked with her to get her confidence back. She feels she gets good detailed instruction on how to learn new skills. Aditionally, they offer varied conditioning work outs to help build strength. When she arrived she was one of the weakest on the team. From a parent point of view it was nice that they accept credit cards. They work with you on payments since they know there is a lot of cost all during the two months of competition. They sat down with me one on one and did an evaluation of my child before competition to let me know where she stood and what she needs to work on. Lastly, I like that this gym has a little bit more of a low key family feel to it.
On the negative side, I would agree the place is a little run down. However, not as bad as some of the other gyms I have seen. Also, it is being fixed up, slowly. Equipment wise I feel they do very well. My daughter has everything she needs to work on skills and be safe. As the equipement has gotten old, they have updated it. When it has worn out they purchased new ones.
Have I seen better gyms yes, Team OC gym looks awsome. However, based on cost, conviences, and service I feel that New Hope really hits the sweet spot.

My daughter has been coming to Newhope since she was in first grade and now she is in 7^th. I have always felt comfortable that she was learning appropriate skills with caring and qualified coaches. She is now on the Excel team and I have been very happy with everything involved in advancing her to this new level. The Excel coaches go the extra mile fursure. Also, the office staff is friendly and efficient.

I am not a gymnast (best I can do is a somersault), but I visited this place last night with a couple people just to play around. Apparently as of now, they’re only open Tuesdays 9−11pm, and there’s a $ 10 entrance fee (cash) as well as a waiver.
The good: a lot of fun things to use, like the trampoline, foam pit, rope climbing, etc.
The bad: Not a lot of room to play around, especially when it gets crowded and most of the equipment is being used. Facilities look pretty old and worn down. The odd hours of operation are also a drawback… unless you’re free Tuesday 9−11pm, you’re out of luck.
The intimidating: I can say with 100% certainty that I was the noob-​est person in the entire room. Most people in the room were SO nimble (basically looked like ninjas) and made backflips/​frontflips/​handsprings look super easy (watched someone do a double backflip). But, it was actually really fun to watch people watch.
By the end of the night, I gathered enough courage to attempt a front flip on the trampoline. Landed on my butt, rolled backwards, whiplashed my neck, bit my tongue, and now I’m pretty damn sore. BUT that’s on me and not the location. Quite the experience.

First impression, the place has a horrible smell and looks a bit worn out. Second downer, not enough weekend, after noon classes available. As a working mom, hard to get anything done before 5… Lastly, I see my daughter spend way too much time standing around. Warm ups are unsupervised as I often see coaches just yapping away and not concentrating on the children doing their warm ups correctly. Two stars for the times that she is learning.

The coaches are awesome! Mrs Danni is great with the young kids. Parkor for my teen boys is great, and my 16 yr old girl loves Sammy and the tumbling class. The gym could use a make over though, it kinda smells like dirty feet. But still worth coming to!

After our experience on team here, we just wanted to forget about this place, but now we are meeting more and more families who’s experiences mirrored ours, which makes me feel a ‘warning’ is needed with the hopes that families who want their girls to compete skip this place. Coach Hope, aside from coaching sub par, teetered on the brink of abusive, and the more we complained and tried to bring attention to what was happening, the more she seemed to take it out on our daughter with Coach Jen’s support. My husband even approached Hope before a class to talk to her; in turn, a target was placed on my daughter and we discovered Coach Jen then began to refer to our daughter as ‘weak’ and. ‘Crybaby’. Unprofessional is an understatement.
Our daughter is a solid gymnast who placed well at meets but they blocked her from moving up and treated her poorly because we were trying to get better coaching. The last time our daughter was there, I walked in to find her not even being supervised at the front door because apparently coach Hope had a party to go to and Jen didn’t take into account which kids were to be with her; considering this was days after the Sandy Hook shooting, I was mortified on their lack of concern for the safety of our child. We have since joined another gym and are since discovering how many left this gym after us. The coaches at our new gym had to take several months just to work on reconditioning our daughter bc she was emotionally ‘broken’ by the coaches and the blatant disregard for her well being by Newhope, despite the concrete facts presented by us and others.
This gym can be a place to go for those who are willing to look the other way, stay quiet, and ignore the maltreatment and the tears/​crying of their children,. Also, if you are desperately donating your time to help do some of the less desirable duties (cleaning) around the gym (brown nosing?!) apparently it seems to secure a spot for your kid, who doesn’t have the skill set, on the team, as well. In the end, it has no value and won’t bring your child to top scores and medals at meets.
There are many other gyms out there… go to a meet, see where teams are placing, watch the dynamics with coaches… you’ll see your child deserves better.

The person named Sue in the office is rude and unprofessional from day one when I came signed up. Poor communication regarding their policy. I do not want to support this bussiness.

My 4 year old has been taking classes here for year and loves the place! She’s advancing like a champ here. I can’t sing coach Dani’s praises enough. She interacts with the children on their level and keeps their attention and focus for the whole class session! I am soooo pleased as a mom.
They also have automatic payments which is a great burden off of mommy and daddy’s shoulders :)
I could do without the stinky athlete smell of the place, but that’s totally understandable.

Newhope Gymnastics has a great boys program. My 7 year old shocks everyone with his Gymnastics skills. Coach scott teaches them on actual apparatus and actual routines which keeps my oldest interested. Regular classes are ok but team is much better. Minus one point for the gym as it is hot and smaller.

The staff is super nice and amazing!
My daughter goes here and she is VERY shy. But by the next two classes she opened up very well. Prices are very reasonable and the coaches are awesome!

Like so many places, an impression of an academy like this is altered by your expectations. A parent can look at this place as day care, an after school hobby, an alternative to a team sport or a training center for the next Olympic Gold Medalist. They have all types here.
My ten year old takes a weekly class here for 90 minutes. She is grouped with others, not the same age, but the same level of ability. Her instructors take her on a circuit of the different apparatus and areas. They work on strength, flexibility and gymnastic skills.
They have summer camps, occasional overnights and quarterly low key «competitions».
Compared to listening to the screaming of coaches and chanting of players at the local girls softball field, this is a fantastic alternative!
