Fountain Valley Optometry

My son and I went here back in June 2014 for an eye exam, in which my son needed glasses. Unfortunately, his glasses were no longer aligned, bent out of place, and the screw fell off.
A few days ago, I took them in to be repaired (which ended up being free of charge).
Kevin was very helpful and patient. He answered all of my questions and had my son’s glasses repaired within minutes!
I dropped and cracked my son’s glasses case while in line, and Kevin gave us a new case.
Great customer service.

They are friendly and super clean first of all. Secondly everything about this office is so good!!! I don’t understand why I’ve never gone here when I live down the street. The selection of frames they have here are pretty current up-​to-​date fashion as well. Thank you to the female front desk that let me change my frames last minute! I was so indecisive the entire time I was there, but when I got home I made a quick call and she said she would change it. I really do think this is one of the best optometrist around OC!

Randomly writing a review for this place, but this is probably the best optometrist I’ve been to — and I’ve been to at least a dozen, including optometrists at hospitals.
Dr. Dao is incredibly nice, informative, and efficient. Before I was going to ²⁰⁄₂₀ Optometry and their service was NOTHING compared to the one at this office and they had twice the staff. The staff at this office are extremely friendly, accommodating, and are willing to go the extra length for your prescription, glasses, or contacts. I order both contacts and glasses and Kevin was extremely kind in putting in my order and letting me know when they’re available. I would recommend this place for anyone that lives in FV/​HB. :)

I have been wearing contacts/​glasses for over 20 years and I think Dr. Dao is the best eye doc I’ve ever had. Super friendly and knowledgable, and helped me gain the best vision I’ve had yet! Very grateful I found her. Def recommend!

I’ve been here for a little over 10 years. Dr. Dao really helped me with my frequent eye infections and allergies. I used to come in 4 times a year… And now I just come in for my yearly exams hoping my eyes will stabilize. I love the staff and professionalism they have here. Kevin and Gabby are great and personable. They try to get you the best possible deal with your frames and contacts. Check in and get a free cleaner set for your glasses!

I had to get my vision checked, and since I support local/​family businesses, I chose Fountain Valley Optometry over Costco. I thought being treated as a patient rather than a transaction would serve me better :-) From the minute you walk in, to the time you walk out, you feel very comfortable. The entire staff and Dr. were friendly, engaging, inviting, knowledgeable, etc… A smile goes a very long way. I was greeted by Gabby, even acknowledged by their in house billing clerk, and seen by Dr. Dao. I never felt rushed, and Dr. Dao took the time to complete multiple exams and explain in great detail her findings to my complete satisfaction. As a bonus, I found out that we both attended UCI at the same time and shared some stories. I highly recommend Dr. Dao for all of your optometry needs. PS: Important to note that I didn’t have vision insurance, and was a cash patient. Their fees are VERY reasonable, so don’t let that deter you. I’m sure they’d probably work with you on an individual needs basis as they worked with me. Again a very satisfied long term patient in the making.

I never thought I would review a doctor’s office, but Dr. Dao and her staff deserve more than just 5 stars. I would recommend them with no doubt. I had gotten a referral from a friend, and I am glad I switched over from lousy Costco optometrists after seven years!
Dr. Dao knows what she’s doing — she’s been in practice for over 10 years (but she doesn’t look it!!). I used to wear hard contact (RPG) lenses. I decided to switch to wearing soft contacts, and Dr. Dao has made the transition go by smoothly for me. I’ve been to a couple follow ups already because Dr. Dao makes sure I am taken care of.
The staff is extremely polite and funny! I have made several trips to the office, and I have never left unhappy. When you place an order, it usually comes within a week. The staff is on top of things and gives you a call when your order arrives. I am very grateful for their assistance. Ask for Kevin the next time you’re in. He’s a great guy! Another plus: they speak Vietnamese.
The office is great. There are a couple seats in the waiting area/​corner. Everything is really clean, neat, and organized. For glasses and frames, they have lots of options to choose from. I love that they carry designer frames (Burberry, Gucci, Kate Spade, etc) because they look better and tend to last longer.

Dr. Dao is fantastic! I came here for the first time several months ago due to corneal ulcer. It was a very painful and urgent situation and the office staff was wonderful and accommodating! As it turns out I had to have several follow ups in two weeks so that the progress of my infection could be closely monitored. Dr. Dao was very knowledgable and made certain that I was taken care of. Although it is not a short drive from my home, I have since continued to see Dr. Dao for my regular eye exam and glasses/​contact lenses. It’s definitely worth the drive!

I just got vision insurance through my employer and decided it was high time to have an eye exam. Fountain Valley Optometry was highly recommended here on Unilocal,and I was able to get an appointment right away.
The staff was super friendly and I felt at ease upon walking in the door. I was seen promptly and a staff member performed the preliminary tests before I went in to see Dr. Dao, who was a very pleasant doctor and was kind enough to explain every test.
Luckily, my eyes are fine and healthy, but Dr. Dao was also able to address a problem I was having when driving at night and educated on me on why it was happening to my light, large-​pupilled eyes. I picked up a pair of polarized anti-​reflective sunglasses to help reduce the glare that has been bothering me and life is good.

I’d recently gotten glasses for the first time from another optometrist. They had progressive lenses in them, and the doctor had told me they might take getting used to. However, after six months of wearing them, I suddenly realized I was still struggling to focus on anything. Worse, I was getting headaches. I mentioned my difficulties to the optometrist, but the doctor dismissed them, so I never went back.
(Memo to my fellow Unilocalers: If you’re wearing progressive lenses for the first time, it’ll take a few days to get used them. Talk to the doctor about this and when you get your new glasses, be patient. If, however, you’re still having difficulties, once you’re beyond the adjustment period, high-​tail it back to the office ASAP. Progressive lenses aren’t for everyone.)
Anyway, in desperation, I searched Unilocal for another optometrist. That’s when I found Fountain Valley Optometry. The doctor gave me a thorough examination, and when I told him about the trouble I was having with my current glasses, he checked them as well. What he found stunned me. He said it looked like the lab the other doctor used had rotated the stigmatism in the lenses 30 DEGREES. I was a little dubious, but when he had me rotate the glasses on my face counter-​clockwise, my view through them was noticeably clearer. (It’s no wonder I was having such a hard time.) The frames themselves, he also pointed out, were far too large for my face. They sat low around my eyes, and my pupils weren’t even close to being centered in them. He asked me questions about my work environment, as well as my leisure reading habits, computer time, and other hobbies. Then he made recommendations regarding what type of lenses I should wear. Unfortunately, they didn’t have any frames in stock that suited me. To be fair, my face is unusual, in that it requires frames that are scaled more like children’s glasses, but with taller lenses and longer temples. It took me weeks of diligent hunting, along with a shot of blind luck, before I was able to find the right ones. But when I did, they didn’t hesitate to put new lenses into them for me, and in FIVE DAYS, no less. I’M ABSOLUTELY THRILLED. If I could could give them ten stars, I would. As stressed as I was, the office staff made me comfortable from the moment I walked through the door. They took their time with me, listened to my concerns, and asked all the right questions. Professional, patient, friendly, reasonably-priced…I could go on, but I think you get the idea. The point is, «I can see clearly now…»
And it’s a beautiful thing.

I’ve been shopping all over for a certain pair of Ray-​Ban sunglasses, could not find the correct size until I spoke with Tina and she offered to order them for me. She is very knowledgeable, exceptionally helpful, and professional. We found the exact pair i was looking for at a very affordable price. I now and forever, will come here for all my eye wear needs.

Came here one day and was instantly greeted by everyone. Talk about making you feel welcome. Anyway, I was looking for contacts and the staff explained everything to me. They know what they are doing and I will definitely recommend this office to my friends.

I love it here, been going here for 5+ years! I’m always excited to visit the very uplifting staff, and get some new glasses and contacts! They are amazing friendly, and trust me, I do retail sales, and I don’t know how they can keep it up all day long. The whole staff is amazing, mainly Kevin, Gabby, and Dr. Dao! A few days after my initial fitting for contacts it didnt seem like my right eye was correct. I called to see if I could come in before my followup appt. They said I could come right away. (I have very watery eyes so its hard to get my prescription correct) Dr. Dao corrected it and everything was fine after…
I came in for my followup appt and to pickup my glasses while I was waiting for the dr. Kevin fitted my glasses and did the necessary adjustments while I was with Dr. Dao.
This has by far been the best optometry/​glasses buying experience I’ve ever had.

Dr. Dao is very friendly, knowledgeable, and has a great sense of humor! I just visited her today for my second eye exam and everything went very smoothly. She explained everything that was going on with my eyes in detail and in terms that I could understand easily. The staff is also very helpful (and the girl at the front desk is pretty dreamy), and the office itself is very chic and modern.
Couldn’t ask for a better experience.
