Chicken fried steak was decent. I had the barbacoa tacos, they were sub par at best. Someone next to us had the enchiladas they looked good. I’d stick to the chicken fried steak or enchiladas… but I’d rather go somewhere else altogether.

Great little place off the beaten path. They were just about out of brisket, but they had enough for our party of 6 to sample and it was delicious. We all ended up with Mexican platters, and the enchiladas, beans, rice, chips, and salsa were delish. Wait staff was super friendly and fun. Juke box is off the chain and perfect for a fun night out.

Fort Worth’s South Main Street has been dilapidated for half a century but is now in the midst of vigorous urban renewal — this authentic hole in the wall sits smack in the middle of that situation — waking in, you might think it’s 1975 instead of 2015 — for my initial visit, I ordered the hard shell chicken tacos with the obligatory rice, refried beans, and chips with salsa — the chicken was pristine white/breast meat, chunky and perfect — the tomatoes were extremely fresh — the salsa was fresh — the clientele can be very rustic but also can include suited business execs — parking is dicey but this place is worth a visit!

First off I rarely give 5-star reviews but this cozy, friendly little spot is deserving of all 5. I first became aware of this place thru a post on the Ryan Place FB page. I’ve lived in RP since 1997 and never seen nor heard of this restaurant. It’s really more of a cozy diner. I took my wife on a Saturday about 2 weeks ago. I had the Mexican dinner #2 which is beef enchiladas with rice and beans. My meal was huge. The beef enchiladas were covered in chili sauce with fresh grated cheese and the beans were whole not like regular retried style. The rice was a little on the yellow side in color and was amazing. My wife had the tostadas. Which came as 3 huge corn tortillas fried crispy.(1) Beef,(1) cheese and(1) Guacamole. The three of them covered her plate. She ate the beef and cheese one and we split the guac one. The salsa you can tell is homemade and good and spicy with fresh chunks of sweet tomatoes and fresh jalapeño peppers. You just will want to ask for more to pour it all over your food. The sweet tea is better than any franchise restaurant tea. I’d bet it’s homemade as well. I took a friend there this past Wednesday for lunch. He’s a TCU graduate from 1974. He’s been in the Fort for 45 yrs and had never been here. This place opened in 1969 just one year before he arrived at TCU. If you’re looking for home style Tex-Mex this is the place to go on Fort Worth’s Southside. I’ll continue to go and suggest it to others. I hope you go you will not be sorry. Oh one more thing, they do have lunch specials and be sure to ask about them. And finally a RP resident who made the original post said the Chicken Fried Steak with mashed potatoes and green beans with a side salad was a knockout too. They have BBQ also I just have not tried it yet. That might be my next choice on my next visit.

What can I say other than simple, plain, darn goog Tex-Mex. Great chips and salsa. Super beef enchiladas. I’ve ordered some brisket sandwiches to take home.(I’ll have to fill you in later on those). One minor draw back is that they use frozen fries. However the waitress was honest and forthcoming when asked. Which I’ve had some that weren’t as honest. Service was good and the waitress was outstanding. Her name was Luisa. Just found out that their fried pies are made fresh, Omg! Several flavors. You’ll have to check them out.

I didn’t know this place even existed until recently. It’s an old diner tucked away between Vandervoorts dairy and a men’s dormitory Appearances don’t scare me, I like Parton’s, Summers, Mama E’s, Massey’s(RIP Massey’s) and Good Luck Drive in and they all scare the neon and umbrella drink crowd off with their looks. Anyway, on to the food! BBQ and Tex Mex who could ask for more! Tried the brisket on my first visit three good sized slices of brisket, a little dry(as noted by others) but pretty dang good I thought. Next thing to try was the cheese enchiladas holy smokes they were awesome! Cheese enchiladas, covered in chili, and more cheese on top! With the usual beans and rice. You also get chips and sauce with every meal watch the sauce it can be spicy! Tried the CFS on the next trip, meh it was OK nothing special a little tough and bland but decent. My co-worker got the tostadas it was three tostadas that covered all the plate. She said they were good to. I haven’t tried anything else but they have burgers, nachos, fried chicken, sandwiches and breakfast. Open 10 – 10 M-S, the area is ummm interesting I haven’t been bothered but I don’t know if I would go there after dark.

Lately this place has been getting recommended to me… and by lately, I mean over the last few years, and I hadn’t made it over until just recently. But the recommendation would always come wide-eyed and with the phrase«…and you know what? It was really pretty good!» thrown in at the end. If you’ve ever driven by it, you may have looked at it side-eyed, much like I did, and thought that it’s just a little greasy-spoon diner with bars on the windows that caters as much as it can to the industry and medical suppliers in the immediate area. But once you get inside, it’s tiny, cozy and friendly, and you do kind of feel like a diner sitcom complete with a laugh track could break out at any moment. There are green booths along the window in one half of the restaurant, and tables that are doing their best to stand upright in the other half, and it all kind of just makes sense even though it may not be trying to exactly. Rating BBQ around here is tough, because when the subject comes up, most people expect knock-your-socks-off barbecue if you’re going to bother at all. And to me, that’s a shame because an even an average barbecue is still pretty dang good. The BBQ here was above average and still pretty dang good, about a 7⁄10 if I had to rate it: A full plate of brisket and crisp green beens and mashed potatoes. They also do Mexican food, which I still haven’t tried yet, but look forward to on one of my next visits. So I suppose the moral of the story here is to not to judge a book by its cover or a restaurant by the bars in the window.

Not the best neighborhood in town, so be careful after dark. Ordered the BBQ meat plate: big slices of brisket, crinkle fries, and a forgettabe side salad: the meat was tasty, a little on the dry side. They serve a warm sauce on the side, which is different but complimented the drier pieces of brisket well. Chips and salsa was an interesting table starter, so I guess this is Mex first, BBQ second: big chunks of fresh tomatoes and peppers, served cold with a nice heat that sneaks up on you, spicy good. Most folks order to go, although crowd here at dinner time was good. Cherry and blueberry individual pies for dessert, house made, were forgettable. CASHONLY.
