The food was good. It wasn’t special. The service was racist. The clerk said«If you ain’t black, don’t come back.» I won’t.

This place is freaking amazing. It does not matter what you order. It may not look like much but don’t judge a book by its cover. Places like this are what make it fun to go out and eat. Great food, fun people and chicken so good, make you wanna slap your momma.

I visited Good Luck because it popped up in a Unilocal search a few weeks ago. Now that I’ve tried it, well, glad I got that out of the way. If anything I have listed below is important to you, skip Good Luck. 1. Being greeted by the staff with a smile. 2. Even being acknowledged within 60 seconds. 3. A clean appearing environment. 4. Speed of service. 5. Receiving a thank you for your order or a come back and see us. If you go, good luck.

I have been a customer for about three or four decades. The food is good, service is fast and the price remains low. This place is nothing to look at but I have never had a problem with the food Great chicken and fries. Good pinto beans and the burgers are the old fashioned kind and people order them like pancakes. When we are in that part of town near lunch we bring some home. Accessible to handicapped but decidedly not spacious or modern or glass and chrome. Just neighborhood classic food and price.

Really good chicken, sausage, BBQ sauce, and prices! First time coming, I got the BBQ plate($ 8.97) — 2 chicken pieces(not sure what part), 1 sausage link, 1 rib, fries and toast. The meat were all on one side and smothered in BBQ sauce. The good: Prices are pretty good. There are plenty of daily specials and deals that are good for the amount of food you get. Chicken is super tender and flavorful — you could even eat the bone without noticing it. Sausage was very flavorful without being too strong. BBQ sauce smothered over the meat is good — not too peppery or sweet, but a nice smokey flavor. The bad: Isn’t the cleanest place, so that might be a turn-off. Fries were under-seasoned. Texas toast was buttered up. Fries/toast are just average and nothing to rave about at all — same price even if you get basket/plate without them. The ribs were a little dry, tough, and lacked flavor — wouldn’t recommend. I will definitely come again, but stick to the chicken and sausage.

What a wonderful neighborhood place to eat! I’ve had a few of their menu items and have enjoyed every meal I’ve had here! Their burgers and fries are the best. If you want yummy grilled soul food, come here! I am mostly a vegetarian who doesn’t eat pork, yet being an athlete I still crave red meats. When I have cravings for meat nowadays, I think of Goodluck’s!!! They load their delicious burgers with lots of fresh veggies. This I can’t resist! Their cole slaw is so delicious, too. They even have a way they make their toast that is so irresistable! If you haven’t yet, I recommend you come and try their menu. They have a lot to choose from. The prices aren’t too bad, either.

Food is ok, don’t seem like the most sanitary of places, the lady at the register had an attitude that the dfw metroplex cannot encompass, the food is reasonably priced but it’s(the restaurant) pretty much a dive, might visit in the future as long as I don’t get sick from the food(time will tell) the price is most attractive here.

Upset stomach was not appreciated. They call it Good Luck because of the saying«Good Luck not getting the squirts!» I think it may have something to do with the frying oil. You will remember this review the next day if you go here.

I’m over in this area a few times a month, and I’d been seeing the sign that claims they had the same BBQ chicken that the Good Lucks had served forever. I first thought this was some place that had just bought the name, because I didn’t realize it was even here until a few months ago, but figured there was no way that a place could still dish out that chicken and hot link plates of my younger days. Didn’t know this place claims it’s been here for 40 years. I can’t say otherwise, so okay. Finally got back around here at lunch time. Yea, not much parking, and it’s a very small space, I got lucky and found one out front. First surprise on walking in, the layout was just like the old Good Lucks, so at this point I’m thinking maybe it has been around for a long time. Walked in, got asked what I wanted second I hit the counter. I was going to look for something that had chicken and links, but didn’t see anything like it as I quickly scanned the menu, so I went with a hot link basket, honestly it was my overall favorite from days past. Here’s the deal, I remember the greasy, nasty links and fries. The BBQ sauce that was on the thin side and kinda greasy, and I remember loving all of it. I really doubted I would see any of that. Basket was ready quick, with drink around $ 8. Three links, fries, and ranch style beans, with the BBQ poured in the bottom. First off, fries were different, and what the hell, they were crisp! Hmmm, moving on… I loved Ranch style beans as a kid, pretty well can’t stand them now, BUT, that had no bearing on it, couldn’t have cared less. The links, didn’t appear greasy enough to be any good… but I dug into them. They were still pretty good, nice flavor, not as spicy as I remember, and obviously different, but still pretty good. The BBQ sauce was thicker than the old days as well, but it had a nice flavor and enjoyable. They put plenty of sauce for me to dip the three links in, and I ate every one of them. Plenty left to swab a few fries in, and although not the greasy, limp monstrosities that I loved in my youth they were worthy, and I ate almost half of them. While I was sitting I had time to see all the menu, and noticed they have a link and chicken combo. I’ll return at some point when I’m around to check out the chicken, and maybe some other BBQ they have. But even though things have changed it’s still pretty loyal to the old offerings, and worth checking out. Yea, the area ain’t great, but I went early at lunch, and other than parking had no problems. No one bothers anyone, and there’s a LOT of people coming in for lunch. Service was fast, a little indifferent possibly, but maybe that goes with the territory. Old, little grungy inside, but still pretty clean, well within my tolerances anyway.

Extremely unsanitary with multiple health violations every year… look at Fort Worth health department website for proof.(It’s called Nancy’s Good Luck Drive in) Staff is extremely rude and unprofessional. Will never go back again.

Fort Worth, my home town I love it so. Every time I’m there I want to experience some cuisine that I haven’t had in a while. This Sunday when I was visiting my mom I was hoping there would be Sunday dinner waiting for me but no such luck. Mom knows that I’m always looking for something nostalgic when I’m over, so why waste her time cooking. This Sunday I just wanted fried fish. I wasn’t really feeling a drive to the west side so I checked Unilocal and called to place an order to a place I shall not name. Well to my surprise no answer although on Unilocal and their website it stated they were open until 7pm. I wasn’t going to waste a drive so I exhausted all other contenders. Mom had not eaten either and she was undecided. When POOF it popped in to my head«Good Luck» They have catfish I remembered. My mom didn’t and she proceeded to question me to what else they had. Well they have everything, fried chicken, barbeque chicken, pork chops, hamburgers, turkey burger, hot links, ribs, BLT, bolo sandwiches. Everything you expect from a hole in the wall fast food place. I say«hole in the wall» but I mean that lovingly. Good Luck is a Fort Worth institution. I remember going there when I was a little girl, not that it was long ago lol. There aren’t many places that call out your order to the kitchen as you place it. I didn’t know if you want mustard and mayonnaise on your burger that’s left and right. The bottom line was I wanted some good catfish and that’s what I got and plenty of it. I got 2 enormous filets, fries, Texas Toast and a well– dressed salad. The salad was as my mom called old fashioned, lettuce, tomatoes, pickle and salad dressing on top. A salad I would never order out but I ate every bit of it. The catfish was fresh and crispy just the way I like it. The service is speedy and expect your order to be called out as soon as say it. They don’t rush you to take your order and never leave without them thanking you and asking you to come back. It’s not fancy but don’t sleep Good Luck.

I tried this place today. I had the cheeseburger and fries and my husband the BBQ chicken special. The food was actually pretty good. If u are looking for a greasy spoon fix, this is def a good place to do it and it’s very inexpensive. The 2PCBBQ chicken deal with one side was only $ 3.19. Chicken was pretty good, moist and tender. I would def go back to try a few other items.

I have been patronizing this location for 30 years, but stopped in March 2012 after suffering from food poisoning after eating a half BBQ chicken, my favorite and usual order. I filed a complaint with the city, but their database does not show that an inspection was ever done. In fact, this diner is not in their database.

There are hole-in-the-walls, and then there are hole-in-the-walls with bars on the windows in areas of town that is better to see the light of day. This is the latter and soooooo worth the trip. Good Luck is one of those places that has been around for a long time(the faded sign and décor proves that), that knows their bbq and scares vegetarians away. Starting with almost too many choices, I went witht he BBQ Plate. $ 7.49 and piled with food. Two Pieces of chicken, one hot link and one large rib, plus fries and Texas toast. It was served in your standard large styrofoam clamshell, but with so much food, they wrapped it with plastic wrap to keep it all in… nice. And an inch stack of napkins to boot. As for the food? Great BBQ sauce, moist chicken, meaty rib and the hot link was really good with a hint of spice at the end. The fries were crispy and the toast was well, toast? Really, that’s not important… the meat was what I came for and I am sure not hungry after that meal. Make your way there, it’s only minutes from downtown Ft Worth and two minutes off of 35W. And get it to go… Enjoy

Thought the hot link sandwich would be a hot link sliced lengthwise but discovered it was two full hotlinks on a bun. They do drown it in sauce so you need to eat quickly if you plan to eat it like a sandwich. I think I will ask for no sauce next time and get mustard instead. Probably need a knife and fork to eat it if you take it home. They give you lots of napkins and you will need them. The two piece chicken with fries and toast is a nice meal for the price. You get a leg and thigh. Once again they drench it in sauce. Got no ketchup but didn’t ask for it either. Dipped the fries in BBQ sauce. The sauce is ok but nothing spectacular. Chicken is moist and fall off the bone tender. The hot links themselves are nice and tender and you can bite right through the skin. Good texture but I would like a little more kick. Fun place to try out. I’ll go back again to try other menu items.

What the F is a bolo? They had this on the menu and I didn’t want to show my ignorance so I did not ask. I googled that EM-Effer and I could not find it. If you know I will give you a lollipop like at the bank I will be completely honest here. The food at Good Luck might really be a 3.5 to 4 stars(in relation to other establishments of like this). What makes this a 5 star experience is the memory of simpler times. Not that I have been coming to the Good Luck since I was a kid or anything. but places like this remind me of my childhood. I guess it is only fitting(or perhaps the catalyst for these memories) is that the only real reason I am this neighborhood is because my Mom is in the hospital nearby. So today on my way to see her I stopped in. I have always noticed this place from afar namely because the huge banner that proclaims it the home of the famous BBQ chicken. I noticed they stopped short of calling it world famous but still famous is bound to be good right? It can be intimidating coming by here. You are not in the best neighborhood. Depending on what time of day it is the parking lot can be full of cars and loiters. the connected convenience store has several chillers devoted to the art of the Forty. There are bars on the window and security cameras are abundant(if they work is a another question). Once you walk in you are instantly greeted by an ordering counter, a huge menu on the wall and even more«specials» to the side, and working that counter might be the meanest appearing food service employee you ever meet. but when you order you realize that appearances can be deceiving. that worker is nice. and the clientele is just as nice. I ordered the BBQ plate and an iced tea(My mom would not appreciate a mickey’s 40 on my breath while visiting her in the hospital). The BBQ plate combines several of the things that I have heard are good at this joint. the hot links and the chicken. It also came with 2 ribs and some fries. My total was around $ 10 for the plate and the drink. The chicken is called a 2 piece but it is basically half a chicken minus the thigh. It was flavorful and perhaps a little dry but the BBQ sauce fixed that. The ribs were fall off the bone tender.(actually one of the ribs actually was off the bone. not sure where it ended up). The hot link was Lady Gaga crazy good. It reminded me of a fire cracker(from my childhood)(you know that cheap hot dog soaked in vinegar) It was really really good. I saw some of the catfish and it looked good as well. The fries were your standard fries but catching a stray fry swimming in the BBQ sauce is a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. You can get your food to go or you can eat in but there aren’t many tables and if your party includes more then 2 well someone will be standing or sitting at another table. Memories. I guess this is where the Good Luck earned its bonus stars. There is a Ms PacMan(far superior to PacMan) arcade machine availble to play as well as Galaga. there is a sign next to them that says play at your own risk… no refunds but I did not lose a quarter. If you know me(and chances are you don’t because why wouldn’t you just call me and ask«hey how is Good luck» instead of reading this review) you know that I basically grew up poor. I would define this as between dirt poor and mud poor(the water makes you a little richer. have you seen how much they charge for a bottle of water?). Yes sir I lived in a trailor.(read not a double wide but a genuine trailer cinder blocks and all). So poor I was selling plasma in Kindergarten. and I grew up in places like this. where you don’t get parsely on the plate but it tastes just as good. Where you feel scared and safe at the same time. Where you worry about what you are going to eat the next day but not too worried to drop a quarter in Ms Pacman. There is so much about eating in a place like this that brings be back to the some of the saddest yet happiest times of my life.
