History

Established in 2006.

Prometheus Solar was founded by Jim Corning, an MIT engineer, who designed and installed his own 2.5 kW solar-electric system for his home in Flagstaff back in 2006. He was so impressed with this simple and reliable technology, that he decided to start Prometheus Solar. For those who are not familiar with Greek mythology, Prometheus was the Titan who defied Zeus and gave fire to the people. In that spirit, Prometheus Solar has been giving people their own clean, reliable power ever since.

Meet the Business Owner

Ryan H.

Business Owner

After earning his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and serving in the US Air Force, Ryan was introduced to solar through Solar Energy International and the Solar Living Institute back in 2006. Today, with hundreds of solar-electric systems under his belt, he loves developing and sharing solar technology and has taught solar energy for Coconino Community College, Willow Bend Environmental Center and the National Park Service. Some of Ryan’s favorite moments in solar work are watching a solar customer’s meter spin backward for the first time and providing solar power to Navajo and Hopi families living off-grid who have never had electricity in their homes.

One of Ryan’s main goals is to make solar energy accessible to everyone by offering solar options that are affordable and easy to use. He acknowledges there are some hurdles to widespread solar energy use, but believes that with a little ingenuity and hard work it will soon be a normal part of everyone’s daily life.
